"Logic dictates education and responsibilities for our school activities trump an emotive response from a fellow peer. She needs to understand that we cannot pander to her, and shirk our duties, but we can still ve sympathetic to her distress. We should see her afterwards, if we have time and permission. Do you not agree with the logic dictated?"

It is the 1st of Slate, in the year 475. Your name is Lolor Bridgeyawned, a young female dwarf, though you're quite tall and skinny for one. You were born into a poor farming family, and lived an uneventful life in Palacedance all your life—until now, that is.

You've traveled for weeks from the mountainhome to an up-and-coming Fortress with your 25 companions. Well, you say companions, but you really aren't too friendly with any of them. You have always been the independent type, after all. You just never saw the point in working with other people when you can take care of yourself just fine. But now that you think about it, you don't know anyone at this place, or anyone in your group. You don't even know much about where you're headed. Your parents just sent you off as fast as they could when they found out there was a caravan heading out to the new fortress. Maybe you should ask someone from your group about where you're headed?

Vote for this, we probably have the most in common with the farmer
>>
You decide to talk to the farmer, seeing as you grew up as one.

>Lolor:"Excuse me, can I ask you something?"
>Farmer:"Of course, what is it?"
>Lolor:"Where are we going?"

He gives you a confused look.

>Famer:"What took you so long to ask that? We've been traveling for weeks!"
>Lolor:"Nevermind that, just answer my question please."
>Farmer:"Alright then... we're going to Gatefrenzies. It was only founded a couple years ago, but since then its become incredibly wealthy and is well known for its masterful steel industry."

Well, there are definitely worse places to be sent to.

Eyes snap open all across your body - each varying in shape, size, colour - all focused on the spot behind the man (mage, some untraceable voice in your mind tells you). You reach out, folding space over itself, then lurch forwards - coming ot a halt direclty behind the mage.
"Really, it's no surprise Ozark has nothing against being flooded with muslims, I'm sure he welcomes them every night", you say with a smirk.
The man - mage, spins around at the sound - hand raised, tattoos aglow - "Dude, I live near the countryside in a very bourgeois village. It doesn't get any whiter than this", he says, then, clenching his hand into a fist, fires a ball of flame idrectly into your face. His face, lit by the glow of his flames, contorts into a sneer, "Feel the heat of my awesome burn" he screams at you.

Your body contorts unnaturally, spine bending over itself to avoid the projectile. Even as that occurs, you're planning your next move - you know, through some ineherent knowledge, that it should take him several seconds before he can fire naoothneoihtrjrte.
With that in mind. you rear your arm back as your spine straightens, returnign to its natural position as your arm rockets outwards - connecting with the mage's face as you return to your natural posture.

The force of the blow is enormous, the man sent hurtling across the docks to come to rest in a crumpled heap against one of the many cargo containers surrounding you.
Even though he appears to be dead, you can't resist letting out one more insult, "Anyway, I'm right and you're wrong because FUCK YOU", you scream into the night.

As you breathe heavily, soaking in your vitory, you hear moaning from on top of one of the containers, then, "If we're gonna go with that logic, shouldn't EVERYBODY show their dick?".

She's right, of course. You had somewhere to be - the ship.
You hunger.

Four decades ago the world was torn asunder by a triple catastrophe. Wicked spirits emerged from a long dormant but foolishly reawakened artifact to inhabit the bodies of the dead and living alike; twisting and mutating them into horrible mockeries of what they once were. Occultists, seeking power and safety, summoned into the world their dark gods from the Else - the place from which all magical power is said to flow. They killed without mercy, carving out a new empire of the damned. The torrent of magical and otherworldly powers clashed with those of existing nations, and the following war leveled mountains and sank continents under the sea. The old nations were dashed. Their people were scattered to the winds. Every power was spent and broken in its struggle and the old threats have subsided - for now.

Your people have begun to rebuild, to reclaim what had once been lost a lifetime ago. In this world both the musket and the sword have equal place. Magic and Technology exist and compete for the favor of Man.

To play you need to fill out these sections
Nation Name:
Nation Fluff:
Nation Color:
Preferred Location:

The more detailed you are with your fluff both in the beginning and in gameplay the easier it will be for me to work with you to get the results you may want.

Rules
Each stat has its own rules associated with its use. No rule is set in stone. They can all be changed through the research and/or development of technology, magic, or practices. Ask and ye shall (potentially) receive. Players are, of course, encouraged to interact with one another in peace or in war as the story of the game is largely what the players make of it.

In this game every player starts out with 2d20 to use to invest their stats into actions, research, and do things they would like done. This could be anything from investing 5 points of industry into making goods for export, granting major currency or culture generation or investing 10 points of power into raiding the trade lanes and coasts of other players. How and what you use your stats for is up to you. Once stats have been invested they are spent.

The remainder of the rules are in the link here
http://pastebin.com/p74bXN9J

I suggest you read them. They're pretty simple. Questions can be directed to me in thread with a simple @GM at the top of the post with your question following.

You decide to check Miranda's stats and inventory to gauge how useful she'd be against your good pal the demon ram. She recalls you mentioning this earlier as well and is confused as she is certain there is no demon ram anywhere in this world, leaving the thought at that for the moment. At any rate, if there were a stat screen, it'd say she's pathetically weak. Her inventory is likewise pitifully empty. She informs you once again that all her precious belongings are currently confiscated along with her pocket space. She also informs you that pocket space is a thing and that it is completely separate from the ethereal inventory. You seem to have reopened an old wound and saddened her some, for if only she had a knife on her, she'd truly seal your beautiful bond together with blood. All attempts to inform her that your simple handshake sufficed falls on deaf ears.

All of this is irrelevant of course because she assures you that there is nothing left at the shrine and your business is wrapped up on this island. How will you proceed?

Hello again fellow creators and questers. It's been a while since I've had the time to do this, but finally I have a period of time to run another EvoGame series. The goal of this game/quest series is to see how far the evolution of these critters go, and to make a thriving ecosystem of creatures and aberrations.

As GM, I'll do my best to actively work on phylogeny charts to track the evolutions, and also make random events for the world to drive evolution down new paths. Since I've done this a few times now, and taken the time to observe/lurk on other EvoGames, I've picked up a few new tricks to keep everything organized and streamline too.

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why.
• Details indicating what the generation of your species is important. Please indicate. (Base Organisms are Generation 0)
• Details regarding a creatures size or name aren't necessary, but are encouraged.
• Nothing too outlandish. Anything incredibly silly or outlandish will not be considered a canon species 95% of the time.

Notes:
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic in biological standards.
• Everyday I'll add an update Phylogeny Chart to track changes. These take awhile, so please be patient.
• Every 12-24 hours I'll be rolling for a Random World Event.
• As a sort of relief to our past players and new players, this part of the game will NOT experience a mass extinction event.
• Have fun

New to the Game?:
• We have a discord server, I'll put an invite in the thread everyday.
• Imgur Gallery detailing the history of this EvoGame up until now be found here http://imgur com/a/KI3ku
• In this thread and in the imgur gallery will be a Blank Template that you can use to make any organisms you wish to make for this game.
• Just a note, while it doesn't matter how intertwined your organism is with the rest of ecosystem, the more dependent it is on the existence of other creatures, the more potential your organism has to survive.

The organisms in the picture above are the survivors of our last era. As an additional note, there will be a short 4 hour moratorium on creating new organism since I will be asking you guys to roll and determine where your organisms will live.

Oh, and may I officially welcome your guys to the Magnarovic Era.

What was the best revelation/plot twist dropped on you in a quest?

How much of an actual character do you like your QMC to be in the beginning of the quest? Ranging from a complete blank slate to a complicated person with a lot of backstory, connections and relationships.

PSA: Due to the nature of the 3 day autosage it might be preferable when using the catalog to switch the [Sort By:] option to [Last Reply]. That way you'll still see active quests at the top even if they are autosaging.

Is there any interest in a Star Wars ARC Trooper Quest? Elite Operative operating operatively on solo missions and sometimes fighting in large scale operations in the thick of battlefields alongside both Clone brothers and Jedi alike.

If not, I'll just go ahead with my plans for a series of One Shots following a Half Orc Mercenary in his line of work through different contracts in a Traditional Dark Fantasy World.

The Legion, once a great force that shook the wasteland, has fallen. After the defeat at Hoover Dam and the death of Caesar, the 87 united tribes fell into chaos, quickly becoming little more than groups of slavers and warbands with no unity or code of honor. The NCR already spread too thin in the Mojave, did its best to secure its borders by quickly reinforcing the dam. Now able to defend against any would-be invaders that try to cross the Colorado River, the NCR turns its attention to New Vegas, where a mysterious courier going by the name of "Six" has declared New Vegas a independent state.

But that is none of your concern... at least for now.

You are a survivor, one that sees the fall of the old Legion as an opportunity to begin anew and to forge your own path using the skills the Legion has given you, because if there is one thing you know for certain.

It's that war... War never changes.

Also, see if our male slave has been sold. If he has, we might think about buying some new ones - either women to help with admin, or men to train into recruits.

Heya! Inspired by the Quest General Thread, I thought we should have a thread where QMs could share our writing, familiarize ourselves with different styles, and ultimately improve our ability to wrote engaging pieces- or action-filled, comedic, whatever your goal is. The idea is to first brainstorm promising concepts (normal players encouraged to participate) and then the QMs write snippets based on that concept. We'll have multiple pieces from different QMs to use as reference points as well as provide feedback/constructive criticism to one another. I encourage that we build in one another's snippets.

This is also a great chance to learn new writing styles from other QMs who use them, and so test them here in the snippet that you write. Players interested in becoming QMs (I'm a new QM myself) can also participate, trying their hand in writing and learning from the veterans of quest mastering.and writing. A lot of this is being optimistic, I'm aware. It may fail horribly and descend into an autismal fit of rage fuck. Or maybe worse, pass silently in the glacial plodding of /qst/. That would be embarrassing. But let's make it happen if it can.

1st step: brainstorm a write idea/concept

How about a world idea that I've had sitting in my head for a while.

So it's basically a pseudo realistic fantasy world with the main twist on powers and shit being these gems that hold/amplify power, I'll elaborate.

These gems can only be filled with a spark and channel only one type and specificity of power/what's described bellow this section, some are harder to manifest than others for obvious reasons, as it requires overwhelming projection of that thing. Also within the three types of gem powers and shit, there is some overlap between one level and the other depending on the subject matter, I'm sure you'll be able to pick it up.

So the first type is the ultra rare, assumed to be myth and largely non existent type of gem that holds within it the manifestation and well... Kind of soul? Basically a force of nature. Super fucking op because your manipulating a direct and overarching aspect of the world. Assumed to be impossible to manifest because you'd literally have to be one with what your talking about, essentially becoming a god. Thematically speaking the world should use these gems in most if not all religious scriptures, cause it makes sense.

Second type of gem power thing is the manifestation of a concept or idea, such as justice or charity or favoritism. These are not as powerful as forces of nature, however there is some distinction to be made. Death is technically a force of nature, but it can also be interpreted in many numbers of ways, however none of the interpretations of death can ever hope to match the scope of the very being of death. Therefore the idea and interpretation of death is an extremely powerful second tier gem, but in technical terms if a first rate death gem existed then it would hold ultimate dominion and supremacy over just the idea or human perception of death.

The third is the easiest to manifest and grow over time, but quite obviously the weakest. Emotion. Emotion gems can be triggered and filled under a variety of circumstances, tragedy usually developes into fear, rage, anxiety or malice though if sufficient enough can manifest as the idea of tragedy. Though again ideas and concepts are tier two and generally more sophisticated and powerful than just emotions.

So yeah I could elaborate more, though that takes the fun out of improvising a bit on other qm's parts if they just get a full template. these can be implemented as a major world building cornerstone in either a low or high fantasy setting depending on tweaks. Hope ya found it noice.

Setting Background (optional):

You are Kazimir Baradlian. Colonel in the Cortian army, and member of the Cult of Ra, ever since you can remember. You have been incacrecated in the prison of the freshly occupied town. Offically for the death of your fellow Cult member, Commodore Ferlain, whom you've killed for shooting a your retired right-hand man, and his wife of Tirian descent in their home.

This is however just a convenient excuse to punish you for opposing High-Commander Akov's policies and decisions along with your deceased mentor. You've fled when the prison warden gotten too close to your cage while taunting the guy in the opposite cell.

After some scouting you've determined that the Tirian army have sent forces to reclaim their city. However they are being lured into a trap, as the Cortians have threatened most of their forces, and artillery to the surrounding hills, and plan to bombard the city once the enemy is deep enough inside.

You got back into the prison, and managed to strike a deal with the prisoners; they follow your commands, don't kill civilians, and disarmed enemies, and in turn you open their cages, and get them trough this alive.

Sorry for the wall of text. Thread 2 was very very short, and wasn't archived , so I tried to sum up the gist of it

You are Martin the Martian, gallivanting around the galaxy in your ship, the Silverbug, endlessly searching for a way to be less of a loser.

Your recent adventures on the Saturn Space Station have brought you much closer to that goal. You've defeated evil cults, blown apart hideous monsters, and even persuaded a cute bounty hunter to spend the night with you.

But that's all over now. After uncovering a document that hints at strange, even illegal experiments occurring in the Oort Cloud, the secretive government Interstellar Intelligence & Investigation Agency (I3A) seem to be after you. You've managed to escape the Saturn station without them finding you, but what should you do now?

"Martin?" Gen's voice comes through the radio again. "It won't be long before those I3A agents come after us here. We should use our hyperdrives to get out of here as soon as possible."

"But where are we gonna go?" Mitchell pipes up. "Are we really going to follow this rabbit hole? We could just leave it and go back to our normal bounty hunting lives."

"I for one won't be able to sleep properly until I find out exactly what's going on," Gen says. "I know we don't know exactly where this Oort-X14 station is, but if we get to the Oort Outlier Station, someone there might be able to give us some info."

"It's worth a shot, I suppose," Mitchell sighs. "What do you think, Martin? What should we do?"

>1. We need to follow this through. Let's go to the Oort Outlier Station and search for new leads.
>2. Secret agents and weird aliens? No thanks. Let's head further in-system towards Earth, looking for big money bounties.

Be able to use text formatting again is awesome.

"We need to follow this through," you say. "Let's go to the Oort Outlier Station and search for new leads."

"Roger," Mitchell says. Even through the radio you can hear the grit of his teeth as he chomps on yet another cigarette. "We'll send the co-ordinates through to you now."

Sure enough, a series of letters and numbers begin to run past a blue screen to your left. The voice of your shipboard AI, Zen, flickers through.

"New co-ordinates received," she say. "Would you like to commence hyperspace jump?"

You turn and take a final look at the Saturn station, floating around the wide rings of that massive orange planet. It looks so small from here, so unassuming - you could never have guessed at the teeming range of people that were destined to live and love and die on that station had you not seen them yourself. But eventually you turn away - Saturn has tested you, but you have been victorious. Now it's time to head to new frontiers and even greater dangers. Your fingers itch as you grip the controls.

"Zen," you say, "let's punch it.

LEDs above you begin to flicker and pulse as the hyperdrive warms up, beginning to spin faster and faster, drawing gravitational energy towards it at extraordinary rates. The Silverbug begins to rumble and shake, and as you glance over at the Gen and Mitchell's ship - the Hawker - you notice a similar process on-going.

Then, with a sudden popping sound, you're flung back into your seat as a stunning array of lights fly past you. Your stomach churns as you pass through hyperspace, folding the very notion of space upon itself.

Almost as soon as you disappeared from the Saturn station you appear roughly 1.3949112e+13 miles away from where you just were. After a few minutes of disorientation you swivel your ship around, looking for the Oort Outlier Station that you have (hopefully) arrived at.

You are Prince Meirion auk Gwyrren, the only sane man in a royal family with dubious concepts of strategy, justice, taxation, and governance in general. You have made it your goal in life to keep your family on the throne and your head firmly attached to your body.

===============

You get the feeling that you're going to wake up more tired than you were before going to sleep for the next few days. Or weeks. Or months.

Totally worth it though. Sure, making the whole thing a done deal before you smoothed out the details and sold it to your family was probably not your best idea, but it's nothing a few lies and creative truths won't fix. Besides, an official announcement might give your uncle time to plan something, and that's completely unacceptable.

Eleri and Olwen are curled up to your left and right. The former is still uncertain about this whole arrangement, so she's wearing a nightgown. Olwen is… not.

"Where's everyone?"

"Seren, Delyth and the Princess are taking a bath," Olwen answers, "and Esyllt woke up first so she could look over the finances. I think she's sitting on the balcony."

You already cleaned up last night - you didn't want to make a mess in the bed - but another bath won't kill you and you need to plan your next move with Reagan, or you could talk business with Esyllt until the others are ready.

You could even just stay in bed for a little longer, as scandalous as it sounds.

>To the bath. You need to talk to Reagan.
>To the balcony. You want to see how Esyllt is doing.
>The bed is fine. You should wait for Eleri to wake up at least.

>And while you're at it, roll 2d4, highest total of three.

In the beginning, there was nothing, but then, for no reason at all, the wonderthing resonated "LET THERE BE THINGS!", and things there were.

An entire universe came into fruition, a universe of sand and wind and an unreachable but everpresent blinding heat above, an endless desert surrounding the wonderthing in all directions.

The wonderthing itself is a small black and shiney square building with an elegant gold embroidered pentagonal entrance, atleast, on the outiside. Inside the wonderthing . . . Is the rest of the universe -- future, past, present, creatures, demons, robots, magical artifacts and technology beyond anyone's wildest imagination all lie hidden in the wonderthing's ever-shifting labyrinth.

Though, to the people of the desert, be they demon, man, robot, or creature, the wonderthing represents primordial chaos, it is not good nor evil, but it is not order, and it is dangerous. Out here in the desert there is order, stability, and civilization; safety.

Well, that is,for the most part. The wise who set up wonderous megacities do so at the far reaches of the universe, a long long long ways away from the wonderthing, but the brave and foolish such as myself face constant danger, we live in tents sorrounding the wonderthing, and every day the wonderthing rains chaos upon us: beasts, monsters, terror undescribeable, and occasionally, wonderous things that make it all worthwhile, but to the bravest of the brave the great wonders leaving the wonderthing are not enough, to find the most powerful artifacts one must become an artificer, a fool brave enough to enter the belly of the wonderthing in search of treasure.

I am an artificer, and this is my tale.

Choose Character origin:
( Roll 2d10 to determine how the chaos affected you. )
>I was born in a tent on the outskirts of the near-wonderthing tentcity . . . (mutant human, +endurance)
>I was given sentience in a hermit's laboratory . . . (arcane golem, +wisdom)
>I was built in a chaos-powered techzone megacity . . . (robot, +intelligence)
>I was formed from a pool of seathing chaos . . . (demon, +strength)
>I was hatched in the great near-wonderthing jungle . . . (creature, +agility)

In Artificer Quest, all actions are determined by rolling 2d10.

There are no critical failures or critical successes, only failures, partial-successes, and successes.
The average roll of all rolls inbetween story updates will be used to calculate the result of the action, even if the roll was not for that action, this is to prevent biased rolls.

Success will be determined like this:
>rolls of 8 or lower will be failures
>rolls of 9 to 13 will be partial successes
>rolls of 14 or higher will be successes

Attributes, skills, abilities, and environmental conditions all have effects on the outcome of rolls, but instead of applying a +1/-1/etc to the roll, they have a non-numerical effect and can turn a success into a slight success, a failure into a slight failure, etc.

I'm gonna wait for a few more players to decide the character origin, and if there is no consensus, highest last two digits of post number or best GET gets it.

Your name is Robert Susan. You have a shit name, a shit life, and probably the shittiest luck. You live alone, you don't go to school, you don't have a job, and your parents died a few years back. Fortunately, they left you with a hefty allowance. So you decided, having no goals, ambitions, and a lost soul, to rent a little apartment somewhere that may as well be nowhere and kinda become a NEET for a while. In the city.
Hint hint: this is important

You have no merits as far as you’re. concerned. You’re a baby-cheeked but lanky 20-year old who runs on an exclusive diet of cup noodles, chips, soda, and all that good junk. And you probably spent your numbered days climbing score ladders on MMORPGs and wanking to bad internet porn. Life of a legend.

If that isn’t shitty enough, you’re now apart of a zombie apocalypse- BAM! Good luck with your shitty life. Good news though, you’re no longer a NEET. Your full-time job is to now survive. And that’s what you have been doing with a dozen of the building’s residence. Recently, you’ve split into two groups: one to retrieve supplies and medical neccesities requests and another to retrieve a more stable source of light and a portable radio- your group. But you were split from two of your four teammates, and escaped to a building to where you found an S.O.S. signal draped over a balcony. There, you found a girl in a wheelchair. You convinced her to move into your building and successively succeded in tranversing amongst the dead-infested streets and back to the relative safety of your building. But perhaps at a cost greater than preferred. You are Robert Susan: ex-NEET, survivor, zombie-slayer, and dare I say hero.

“Hodor...” you whisper through parted lips.

And the black tendrils that creep at the edge of your vision take you.

You don’t dream this time.

Your mind surfaces to consciousness before your body. Your eyelids do not obey your command to open over your burning eyes and the choking dryness of your throat refuses to allow you the simple relief of swallowing your own saliva, with the little you can conjure. Your ears ring with such deafening loudness that you fear for your sanity. But your mind is too hazy to penetrate. You do not move. You cannot.

You feel your lips part and a stream of water thread into them, lingering only a moment above your throat before trickling in. You feel a damp cloth on your face and neck and chest. And you slip back into unconsciousness.

When your mind surfaces once more, your mind is clearer. Your eyes still burn, and your ears still ring, but your throat is better and the pains of flesh has been tempered. You test your body before anything. Wriggling your fingers and toes and rolling your eyes in your sockets. You probe the surface you mount with your back and fingers
Soft. Every movement is painful and every sense of touch is numbed. It will have to suffice. You open your eyes.

The ceiling is white. You take steady, shallow breaths through your nose as you your roll your eyes around the room. From the little you can see without having to use your neck and risk agitating your pains, you can glean that you are once more in an apartment. You hear a dull noise, drowned out by your ringing ears. You focus.

“Hey, hey, relax now. You still need to recover.”

A head pops into your vision just over your head. Dark, curly hair drapes over a thin face that stares back at you with worried blue eyes. He offers a sheepish grin.

“I crushed in some aspirin with some water I gave you. Should've helped a little.”

Then it all comes crashing down on you. Where did Matthew go?

You part your lips to speak and urge yourself to release some semblance of a voice. But only airs is summoned. You try once more.

“Matthew...”

Your voice reverberates in your head, gravelly like the dead man and hauntingly fitting for your...new life. A moment of silence ensues as you wait for your answer. You consider asking once more but you do not want to speak again. But you do not have to.

“Oh...”

And only that is enough. A single vowel.
