Years after the land of Saroria was saved by the legendary heroes of old. Those heroes worked in perfect harmony to seal away an evil horror, one created by wild magic and brewed in the flames of the under dark, and evil know as Malice.

Malice has been unsealed and given a much stronger host body, one that one by one offed the heroes of old and any others possibly able to defeat them.

The last Adventurer left is you: Dingus Deluxiouser.

Become Dingus: You were always a strange boy. You where a human born child, yet never grew much taller than a teen, as if you were a giant among gnomes yet a midget among your fellow men. Your legs had always been weak and yet they stretched over your body, easily taking up more than 50 percent. Your stomach and chest seemed to meld together in a cluster fuck of a circular body, and your meaty arms popped out to extend like an ape to your knees. Despite all these clear deformities, along with your Cobra-esque neck and potato face, your parents kept you because they desperately needed help on their farm. Your mother was renown for attracting to her a multitude of mystical beings, most of which a sign that something great was to occur to her. Your father was a great warrior in a long war injured by his combat. because of this, many of the needs of the family fell upon the children who would pick you to do all of it. By the time you were a teen you were capable of doing all the work in the small farm single-handedly. You had become strong, both mentally and physically due to the heckling and the work. you had learned to fight in order to help fend off breast from your crop and cattle and had spent your spare time practicing magics and a multitude of crafts. When your father finally died, the farm was given to your older brother who promptly kicked you out to the nearest city. Here, you learned of the new threat and vowed to make a name for yourself by slaying it. You look into your inventory: You carried with you a gallon of mustard that would last you as 8 days worth of rations, your only other pair of clothing, 50 ft of rope, your trusty sling and short club, a tinder box, your mostly empty spellbook, a bed roll, a compass and map, and a small pouch containing your life savings of 15 gold. You know that to begin the life of an adventurer you will need to prepare yourself and this city is a wonderful place to start: but what will you do with the money? Perhaps buy armor, or hire a party to join in your escapades, or purchase spells to aid in your time.

Be you: Make a choice dumbass.

As you watch the sunday mass leave their large and clearly important church you rush to it in glee and use your tinder box with a minor flame spell you had learned in your research. with ease the flame enlargens to quickly form fire over the building. With your success you flee the scene to ready yourself for the beast to leave it. No one leave it but a burning preist.

This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 13 year old Chunin named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence, and your jack of all trades skill set have brought you far. You're a Chunin of notable talent for your age. You're about to spar with your team mate, Ai. Elsewhere, a loner relives long lost memories.

Suspended upside down from an iron bar, hanging from your legs, you groan and grit your teeth to complete the next sit-up. The only thing illuminating the underground gymnasium is a series of torches mounted on the walls. As the lights flicker, your shadow dances all around the room.

Asuka sits at the other end of the gymnasium, propped up against the stone wall. She's been your sparring partner as of late. Her skill with a sword is undeniably greater than your own, so you always appreciate the chance to face her. Tomoko is cleaning up her wounds, using her advanced healing to not only remove any damage, but also signs of scarring. That particular technique is something you deeply appreciate. The number of wounds you would still be able to see on your body would be impossible to count.

You fall back down, getting ready for another rep. You look at your two captains, suspended upside down. Asuka, with her dark skin and red hair, and Tomoko, with her long blonde hair. A month or so ago, you decided to stop putting Asuka through the brainwashing techniques and observe her behavior. As far as you can tell, she's completely acclimated to the lifestyle of being a Jashinist. Either she's come to accept and embrace her place, or she knows that she'll never be able to fully reintegrate into society.

With another groan, you reach up and complete another rep. As you're straining to reach the top, your face turns bright red. You recall the time in your life when you realized you would never be able to go back, too. Seeing someone else in that position leaves you with mixed feelings. Truthfully, there has always been some jealous element inside of you that only wanted to live a normal life. Or, as normal as it gets for a shinobi. Before you killed your foster father, you always had the dream of being a great shinobi like the past members of your fallen clan.

Like most times of exertion or difficulty, you hearken back to your memories of the first time you murdered. Some shinobi say killed, or even more coldly. eliminated. You'll never think like that, though. What you did was a terrible, bloody murder. When you were four years old, coming home from an ordinary day care. You and your sister Ai were completely normal children, though she always had a penchant for causing trouble and being rowdy. You were always the quiet, composed one. Seeing her again the other week has put you in a position where you're forced to reexamine the events that lead to these moments.
>>
>>1264474
Your foster parents were fairly well off, reviewed by the village to be completely fit to raise a pair of orphaned twins. When you think back to it, there honestly wasn't anything too wrong with them. Sure, the mother was a bit too protective and neurotic, possibly caused by the inability to have children herself. The father was a hard worker, who didn't accept any guff in his home. It wasn't all that uncommon for Ai to get a smack across the cheek for her playful antics. At the time, it filled you with such anger, though now you know that to be totally irrational.

With a flip, you drop down and land gracefully on your barefeet, crouching down to absorb the impact. Of course, there aren't many things you do that are completely rational. You step over to a rack, pulling off a white towel stained brown with blood.

You recall that night, when Ai had been asking you to chase her as she often did. You've got no idea where she seemed to get her endless energy, even as a kid you were reserved and tired. Your foster parents often worried there was something wrong with you, and maybe there was. Even then, you agreed to play for a while. She came around the corner and ran facefirst into a hollow stone pillar. Not enough to hurt, but she bounced back and landed on her rear. The two of you laughed and laughed, until the stone pillar, tipping just enough, let the vase on top fall to the ground. Gray ashes spread all over the floor among the shattered ceramic, and the two of you looked at the mess in confusion. The thundering footsteps of your foster father running into the first floor hallway can still be heard, as clear as day. "What the hell!?" he bellowed. "What did you do!?"

Ai, earnest and honest, was the first to protest. "It was an accident, daddy, I didn't-"

She didn't get to finish her sentence, when he pulled her by her long black hair and slapped her across the mouth with a full palm. It was completely unlike the, in comparison, tender, reluctant punishment from before. You didn't understand why he was so angry, but his seemingly irrational behavior made you angry too. As he spun her around and put her on his knee, and began to strike her rear, you ran forward. Attacking in the only way a child so young knew how, you uselessly battered your fists against his side in protest. "Stop it! Stop it! Leave my sister alone!!"
>>
>>1264481
He spun his hand back and struck you in the face with his knuckles, the strength of the grown man sending you back a foot or two. Your nose started to bleed for a bit, and it was the first time that you were hurt in any sort of real capacity. The scrapes and bruises of your play couldn't compare to the emotional turmoil and sudden surprise in the slightest.

The punishment was soon over, and the two of you were sent to your individual rooms. Boiling in anger, you found yourself completely unable to sleep. Your foster mother had attempted to explain to the both of you why your father was so angry, but the words passed by unheeded by your glazed eyes. The only thing you wanted to do was strike back, but he was so big. So strong. The only possible thing that could bring a sense of fulfillment to you was impossible.

You find yourself reliving the memory in it's entirety. You feel your tiny bare feet stepping across the ceramic tile of the kitchen. scrambling through the utensils, you find a long, sharp knife. Each step up the stairs forces your adrenaline into action. For most children, the chemical rush only serves to freeze them in place. But not you, you want to be great, a ninja, strong. Like your clan before you.

Peeking through their doorway, you find the room completely dark aside from the red glow of a digital alarm clock. The carpet of the bedroom suppresses each footstep. Like a real ninja, you sneak up to your mark and hold the knife over his huge chest. With each breath, it rises and falls rhythmically. Pulling back at the bed sheet, you identify your target. The heart.

The first stab causes the blade to get stuck. You completely underestimate the strength it would take to pull it out, but it comes free as your foster father suddenly awakens and sits up, screaming. The hot red blood floods over you, and when he goes to strike you, the fist falls short as he tumbles over the side of the bed.

Last time you walked a strange path among the stars and delved into some ancient alien ruins. Discovering an ancient well preserved vault and stuff so old it was nigh worthless. Got kidnapped by pirate woman and admitted to having a...dirty history. After that back in the colony defenses were built and farms were upgraded. While you looked into a certain woman and discovered a certain unusually smart bandit actually had a point. So you decided to investigate there instead of the corruption in the townhall. After finding out some possibilities you decided it was best to find that bandit while you waited for your new ship to arrive.

That was how you found yourself walking deep into the steaming jungle. Hoping you could find the right bunch of bandits. Given how they are unusually smart this will both be easier and harder. Easy because its the smart ones are likely gonna be his guys. Hard simply due to the fact that they aren't a bunch of bloody minded morons. Given how they acquired themselves a nifty space ship you know there aren't 'quite' as many places for them to hide. So you started to traipsing through the jungle.

Trying to find a spot where they could reasonably stash a ship. It took many hours of investigating but eventually in a particularly marshy section near the coast in a lagoon and near a stream. You discovered a familiar ship partially submerged in the water and hiding underneath the jungle growth. You did not however find their encampment and before you could. You heard some not so friendly voices speak out from behind here.

"Well well what do you know its that runaway pirate's booty boy toy."

I'll have to speak to your boss personally to arrange it, but I believe I can take requests if you have a favorite. And yes I brought free samples. (Small change in how I’m draw to do it faster)

It’s a family matter that has to be discussed. Let’s go to the Champagne Bear and talk to Gretchen first, then later with your parents.

You arrived to the place where the prices of food are un-bear-iable low! Of all bear puns, that’s the best they got?... Anyway, you enter in search for Gretchen, one of her coworkers greets you:

“Welcome to the Champagne Bear, what can I give you?”

“I’m searching for Gretchen.”

“The newbie? She’s over there.” She points to one of the tables that Gretchen is serving. You go over there.

“Gretchen?”

“Uh? Nora? What?”

“Do you have a moment?”

“Obviously no, wait for my turn to end!”

“And that’s…”

“In half an hour, now go, I’ll catch up with you outside…”

You go out of the Champagne Bear. That was beary useless. You wait for Gretchen while sitting in a bench nearby.

“Now I’m free. What’s up?” She’s finally out.

“Heh, you’re not mad anymore.”

“I was not mad… just frustrated”

“Anyway I have something important to tell you.”

“My gut is telling me I’m not going to like it…”

What do you say?

>I’m leaving home! I’m going to start my training soon!
>I’m pregnant… Nah, I’m kidding. I’m moving out of home. (Explain what’s happening).
>I’ll tell you at home. Let’s talk about how was your first day!

You wake up in the same humid warmth you fell asleep in, your grey t-shirt darkened by sweat on your chest and armpits. You step out of your hammock constructed from fishing nets and old quilts, your feet his the rough wooden floor and you make your way over to the wicker chest containing your outfits. You dig for a while before pulling out a light tan button up and some weathered blue jeans, you change into the dryer clothes and slip on your black combat boots before going down the hatch to the main area of your abode. You open the battered dirty fridge and pull out a small glass bottle of water and take a conservative sip.

You grab your empy backpack and decide to get on with your scavenging for the day. You open the hatch and before climbing down into the thick woods you grab your best friend from your weapon rack.

Oh shit nigger it's a /qst/ adventure thing. That I'm pretty sure I saw someone did before and I'm ripping them off but I can't remember the name so I can't credit them. Yea.

6+1 persons form an adventuring party in a nondescript generic fantasy land. Each with their own colour code for my convinience: Green, Blue, Yellow, Red, Teal, Orange and Purple
Each chacacter needs at least 1 player to be the voices in their head to tell them what to do n shit. And the party only needs 4 active members. The rest are part of the Backup Reserve Formation.

Just give yourself a name with the character's team color to identify which person you belong to. Ex: Yellow Faggot"

The party's current quest is to travel to the Obvious Evil Tower to Rescue the Princess. Currently they're trying to walk around a lake.

Hello again fellow creators of /qst/. After a brief hiatus on my part, I'm here again to begin our journey into the Regional Evolution of our Moon Worlds. We will be starting with Region 1 of Janus.

As GM, I'll do my best to actively work on phylogeny charts to track the evolutions, and also make random events for the world to drive evolution down new paths. Since this is the first time I've done EvoGames focused in a Regional perspective I'll be experimenting with how I approach these threads for better viability later on. Also we will be going to Region 1 of Rienia next thread to explore life's evolution there.

How to play:
• Open an image of a species in MS Paint, or your editor of choice
• Make one evolutionary change to that species
• Save as .PNG!
• Post your new species in the thread with a description of what evolution you've added and why.
• Details indicating what the generation of your species is important. Please indicate. (Base Organisms are Generation 0)
• Details regarding a creatures size or name are encouraged, but not required.
• Nothing too outlandish. Anything silly or derailing will not be considered a canon species 95% of the time.

Notes:
• Unless stated explicitly, no species ever goes extinct. Old species can still evolve, even if they're not on the latest "chain"
• Try to make your evolutions gradual and realistic in biological standards.
• Everyday I'll add an update Phylogeny Chart to track changes. These take awhile, so please be patient.
• Expect a Random World Event at least once per thread to shake up the world and game.
• There will be no Mass Extinction Event in the near future, so enjoy building and evolving to your hearts content.
• When this thread reaches its endpoint, we will be switching back over to Moon World Rienia next thread.
• Have fun

New to the Game?:
• Don't be shy. If you have an idea for an organism and want to spend the time making it, please by all means do so.
• We also have a Discord to keep you up to date on EvoGame activities, and chat with other folks and myself. https://discord.gg/kk8eJgJ
• I have begun work on an Imgur Gallery to track evolution and provide up-to-date info on each world. It will be posted in the near future.
• There is a Blank Template that you can use to make any organisms you wish to make for this game below.
• Just a note, while it doesn't matter how intertwined your organism is with the rest of ecosystem, the more dependent it is on the existence of other creatures, the more potential your organism has to survive.

The Description of the present Janus, Setting, and, and more will be posted in supplementary posts.

Present Setting: As Janus enters the Late Magedivatian Era, another tectonic shift expands and molds the ocean's currents. This shift of the Janus' landmasses adjusts the global thermohaline circulation of the worlds oceans, bringing with it warm waters currents that reach far beyond its tropics. For Region 1 (Needs a name) life's Golden Age of Biodiversity continues to flourish as warm winds and consistent rain, keeps these islands and small landmasses constantly warm and wet. The expansive and nutrient rich waters and coastlines of Region 1 leave marine life with little threat of ecological change, while providing new niches for life to take hold in. On land, life slowly takes its first steps away from the water entirely, as the first semblance of a terrestrial ecosystem takes hold on these tropical islands.

--Planetary Statistics--
Atmosphere: 78% Nitrogen, 12% Oxygen, 6% Argon, 2% Carbon Dioxide, 2% Other Gases
Average Global Temperature: 76°F (24°C)
Tectonics: 20% less than Earth
Volcanic Activity: 30% less than Earth
Weather Systems: Earth-like; Cooler-Wetter Weather Systems; Current-driven

--Organism Advancement--
> Marine Organisms are global unless they live in freshwater or in Shallow Seas, at which the Region must be specified.
> Terrestrial Organisms will be considered global unless specified to live in a specific region.
> Plant Organisms may now be as large as the size 16 increment as stated below.
> Animal Organisms may now be as large as the size 11 increment as stated below.
> Silicates, Calcium, and rich quantities of Iron, Copper, Silver, Zinc, and other metals are present in the environment and may be incorporated into an organisms diet/evolutions if desired.

--Size Increments--

Region 1 neads a name - Aetheria

Welcome back to BoaC
Carry on my wayward Anon:

Some things are easier to store and preserve than others, for that purpose, people have begun to bury them in the ground, but that didn't do much, it was mere make-belief.
However, we found a strange grey earth that was sticky and thick, our tribes used that for the burying strategy as well and lo and behold, it did something, sort of.
It's not exactly useful, but it's better than what we did previously.
Meanwhile the Chieftain as the closest thing to a shaman we have, marries off a young couple.
These lovers represent our future, as the Woman is a Purple, and the Man is a Green.
Over the coming years, we will see a lot more couples like these, but this one is special, or at least so the Chieftain thinks.
To make them special, the Chief declares them to be Skewjo-Kilthizo - the Children of the Sky - to represent Sun and Moon equally in them.

The Skewjo couple is granted the right to hold feasts in honor of our Deities and the ability to elect a new Skewjo couple upon their death.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
If you're new and interested in playing, here's how it works:
Everyone decides what our People will do next.
All decisions are made by democratic majority vote.
If multiple decisions are made, only those that do not conflict each other will happen.
Rolling 100 overrides a majority decision.
Multiple cases of rolling 100 will happen in order they were rolled.
Everyone may only roll once per pending decision.
Major historical events, may still occur if the point of Origin remains outside our nation's control. (e.g If we don't own Macedonia by 200BC, Alexander the Great happens, no matter what)
Major Historical events may still occur, if our Nation hosts similar conditions as the Nations we currently occupy, as they would have at the appropriate time.
(e.g If we own Rome after 700BC and our King [you] does some more than questionable decisions, we will become a Republic)
Tripfagging is strongly encouraged!

Alright I'm gonna sum up our actions.
>Important:I'd also like to skip forward a bit just to the next big event or something. Maybe 3-4 years?
Put effort into learning more uses for the sticky grey stuff.
Encourage relationships and child rearing for more people.
Expand our general territory so we can have more animal grazing.
Send a envoy to the Prussian, yellow and teal to open up som trade.

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

Chapter Quest is set in Warhammer 40k universe where players control a nameless Chapter Master, leader of the Ghosts of Retribution Chapter - an autonomous brotherhood of genetically engineered warriors tasked with protection of mankind.

This quest is a mixture of traditional role playing, resource management and grand strategy. Main narrative is driven by the players rather than QM and doesn't have a pre-set "main storyline". Original purpose of the game was to push the story of 40k past year 999.M41.

How to play? Post your suggestions in the thread, if enough people approve them or no one opposes them, they will be implemented. For discussions, join our chat (link below).

You are a Vampire, a scion of the night. The sun's light burns your kind to ashes, but under the stars, you are a wolf among sheep. Before we begin, tell me about yourself,

> What is your name?

> What is your gender?

> How old were you when you turned?

> What do you look like?

Now then, answer a few more questions, keep in mind, this isn't earth,

> How advanced is the world?

> Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Medieval Age, Renaissance Age, or Modern Age?

> How common is magic?

> Nonexistent apart from certain supernatural creatures, extremely rare, somewhat rare, uncommon, common, extremely common, or omnipresent?

These last few questions are a bit more, intimate...

> Did you spend your childhood extremely poor, or extremely wealthy?

> Pick the one you're best at: Strength, Agility, Toughness, Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma.

> Pick the one you're worst at: Strength, Agility, Toughness, Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma.

> When you died, and came back, what did you feel? Unimaginable, furious blood-lust, an intense urge to explore, find and experience the wildest places, a sudden, powerful sense of awareness and paranoia, or a slow, and profound realization?

> Is your master with you, or are you alone?

Man this place can get boring, I mean sure I have things I could be doing. And Yvette probably has something in mind already to spend some time with me if I start complaining. Which is nice, but well I dunno, I'm just having some trouble deciding if there really is nothing for me to fucking do today. Sure a date or something would be nice, but I dunno. I just really want some excitement, something to get my blood pumping and my adrenaline flowing. Something that's....dangerous I guess and I don't want to get Yvette tangled up in it if I find whatever I'm looking for. Maybe I'm just a little pent up? I mean I really haven't had a chance to let loose in awhile. I mean the last time I actually had a chance to, it was just a dumb squid nearly drowning me because she couldn't take a second to check if I had a fin where my legs ought to be. Still that girl is...would be sweet if she wasn't creepy. And the only real fight I've had since I got here is practically kissing my ass now, which is a shame since Carla is really fun to fight with, mostly because she's actually strong enough to toss me around like a goddamn hacky sack.

Leaning back into the side of the inn as I sit next to the stairs leading inside, I look out at the alarune who's always being pampered by the local hive of bee girls. I grind my teeth, well I guess I could drop by to see if Carla wants to brawl or just pick a fight, but well I doubt that would work, and Jessie wouldn't fight me unless I'm actively making someone else's life hell. Crossing my legs, I tilt my head. My horns tap the side of the stairs as I sigh. Maybe I could help Sis with her job but I'd actually have to sign up to be a lifeguard and make it my job, I think. Pretty sure I can't just save people like that. Besides pretty sure pam can keep the entire beach safe by herself, with how big she is now a days.

Eh maybe today is just a lazy day. Not much I can do about that unless I want to cause some trouble, and I really don't want to piss of that mother bear more than I do naturally already.

Well, curling up on the couch and watching a few Kaiju movies with Yvette sounds nice, but I still want some real action before I just....do nothing today.

What do I do?
[] Sit here for awhile, and end up taking a nap
[] See if Rowen knowns where any trouble is
[] Cause some trouble for some fun
[] Check out that fight club with a friend or two
[] Wander around in the woods, hoping there's something happening in it 1d20+shard of fate
[] Just go back to my room
[] Bully the alarune
[] Bother Carla and the fishbones
[] Go to the city
[] write in

Welcome back to Magical Girl For Hire Quest!

You are Miranda Styles, a relatively unscrupulous magical girl currently working for Silver Eye Solutions, a umbrella corporation for magical girl mercenaries such as yourself, located in scenic The Intersection, a dimensional nowhere and everywhere where you rest, recuperate, live, and get details for your next job.

And currently, you are in a shuttle piloted by a member of Dynamic Methods, another Outgoer group that you’ve been subcontracted to fight a war with, flying at top speed towards your latest destination: a hidden base in a world of floating islands called Mageria, in particular a dangerous destination called the Gail Beltlands, due to extremely high winds making regular travel dangerous. And yet your enemy, a nation called Ferrosia, has been sighted in the region. It’s up to you, your friends Izumi and Lorelei, and a Dynamic Methods member you’ve gotten along well with, Icey, to investigate the area, and then capture or destroy anything of interest.

Your coffee’s still warm, at least. And the muffin was good. As you and your allies wait in the hold as the shuttle rumbles fiercely, the atmospheric compensators working hard to correct the flight path over the extreme winds. You can hear the pilot, Thaddeus, occasionally grumble from the cockpit as he has to make a manual correction or two. The only real noise is yours as you take a quick sip of your brew as you look across from you towards Icey. She’s got a rather calm demeanor, and seems to be going over one or two last minute gear checks- just to be safe, apparently. Lorelei’s besides her, just staring off into space, her breakfast burrito only half eaten. To your right, Izumi’s polishing her sword- you suppose she’s planning to get a lot of mileage out of it this time.

Eventually, it’s Icey who breaks the silence when she looks up at you. “Do you get nervous?”

Huh? Even Lorelei looks up askance at that one.

Icey must see the confusion on your face, as she asks again. “It’s kind of a stupid question, I know, but it...I don’t know. You just never seem worried. About anything. I’ve seen you grumble a bit, snark here and there, but even when we were assaulting Gable I don’t recall you being particularly afraid- it was more like you were just...frustrated. At least, according to reports. Does being a magical girl just sort of...numb those feelings? I mean, as long as I’ve been in this organization, I can’t say I don’t stop being a bit worried before deployment." She pauses only briefly as that sinks in. "I...well, I can see why someone like you WOULDN’T be scared, I mean, but I guess part of me thought...I don’t know.” She shakes her head. “I’m rambling. Forget I said anything.”

Lorelei looks at her in a pitying manner, but doesn't seem to say anything, merely patting her back. Izumi just looks slightly concerned.

>Everyone gets scared, Icey. I’m good at hiding it, but it doesn’t mean I don’t have those thoughts whenever I set out.
>I guess in a way it sorta does remove a lot of ‘normal’ fears. I’m more worried about others than myself these days.
>It...takes a lot to phase me. I’ve seen and survived things that would kill armies in a flash. The bar’s kinda set pretty high.

>Everyone gets scared, Icey. I’m good at hiding it, but it doesn’t mean I don’t have those thoughts whenever I set out.
A sort of paranoid nervousness - that we've let ourselves be lured into a false sense of security; that we just haven't met all the terrifyingly-powerful beings out there in the multiverse which we've only just been missing by chance; that the other shoe is about to drop and our complacency will get us and everyone around us killed, or worse.

Of course, that constant sense of nervousness also means that little phases us when mildly terrible things actually do happen.
