You are a twelve year old boy named Masahiro Satou. You have recently graduated from the Ninja Academy by the skin of your teeth. Your family lives a simple life as owners of a barbeque restaurant popular in the Hidden Leaf Village. You’re a prodigy chef, possessing what can only be described as godly cooking abilities in the kitchen. Unfortunately, this has done you no favors with your primary goal of becoming an elite ninja.

You’re kind of a screw up in that regard, really. Before you could actually graduate, every day was a struggle. You lack any sort of innate potential as a fighter and were dead last in your class when it came to actually applying what you’ve learned in school. Sometimes people wonder how they could have possibly turned you into a ninja at your skill level. To them, you say “shrug.” But now that you’ve finally started your career, you’ll have a lot of time to grow as both a person and a warrior. If you want to survive, you need all the help you can get.

For now, you’re in your room, eyes still a bit fuzzy from having just woken up from sleep. You sit up for a second, eyes still half closed as you wait for your vision to clear up. Oh yeah. You have glasses. You yawn while putting your round spectacles on.

Now, what will you do?

Previously on Reckoning Quest...

The Hearth River runs red, driving Hearthspring into paranoia over ill omens and things that roam in the night. You and your friends have decided to follow the rangers upstream, determined to find answers.

Following your instincts, you walk closer to the doe’s remains, the pungent stench of decaying flesh and shit baking in the sun for Vaul knows how long getting stronger as you approach. As you get closer you start to see just how infested the corpse is with maggots, fungus and disease. There’s no way you’re going to subject yourself to rooting around that thing with your bare hands and face so close to it, you’ll probably get extremely sick.

You walk back to the edge of the forest where the smell isn’t so bad and grab a stick to help you investigate. This time, before you approach the corpse, you take in a deep breath, holding it for as long as you can. You’re not breathing in, but you can feel the air grow hotter and thicker as you get closer, standing as far away as you possibly can whilst being able to touch it with the stick.

Sam and Theo watch in disgust as you push the skin and fur back with the stick to reveal the mass of squirming maggots underneath. Immediately a cocktail of hot, putrid gas trapped within the corpse hits your face, making your eyes water profusely. You persevere though, forcing the entrails aside with your stick, trying to identify each individual organ through the mess of maggots.

You can only hold your breath for so long, and eventually you can’t stop yourself from exhaling, your body instinctively taking in a deep breath. You gag deeply straight away, taking every drop of your willpower not to vomit. You root around frantically, continuing to push the animal’s innards out. Most of it is too mangled or foreign to recognise, and your knowledge of anatomy isn’t very developed, but you know what you’re looking for, and after fully gutting the animal you know for certain it isn’t there.

You walk over to Theo and Sam, who have long since walked further upstream to get away from the awful smell. “I had a look, and couldn’t find it. The heart. It’s missing.”

Sam eyes go a bit wider, clearly a bit spooked. “…What the fuck. Everything else was there though?”

You respond. “Apart from all the pieces that’d been thrown around; Yeah, I think pretty much everything was there except the heart.”

Theo’s mouth is pressed into a flat line, trying to remain stoic. “This doesn’t make sense. At all. This doe’s been practically ripped open, half if its innards thrown around everywhere in a mess, and now you tell me its heart is missing? This is bloody insane…”

Theo pauses and thinks for a bit, frowning slightly as he continues. “There’s no animal I know of or read about that’d do this. Maybe insane Barcadan cannibals would do something this deranged, but other than that I’m stumped. And whatever this thing is, why would it take the heart?”

At the mention of cannibals Sam’s eyes go even wider. “C-cannibals? Y-you think there’s fucking cannibals running around, causing all this insane shit? You got to be fucking kidding me…”

Theo cuts Sam off. “No, that’s preposterous tha-“

Sam raises his eye brows, daring Theo to go down the logical route. “Well, I don’t think there’s cannibals running around the forest. I’d only read about it briefly in a book, where this one Barcadan tribe would eat their enemies during war time. They do some crazy shit, but you’d imagine they’d be killing humans and eating them instead, not leaving mangled, uneaten animals lying around.”
You let the two speculate, deciding to remain silent about what you may know. Letting them know about what really might be out there wouldn’t solve anything. In fact, it’d probably be detrimental. Telling them doesn’t answer any of the questions that you all have, and if anything will make the others even more paranoid and frightened then they are now.
“We should probably get a move on, rangers might set a shitty pace but if we stay here all day we’re gonna fall behind.”

Theo, deep in thought, nods, whilst Sam pipes up, a new fire in his eye. “Aye. Best be keep our eyes extra peeled as well, now that we know something’s definitely out there.”

You continue following the ranger’s tracks upstream, stopping for a quick lunch of pickled cucumber, cabbage and smoked ham sandwiches. As the day goes on, the sky begins to get overcast, and you’re eventually treated to a light shower in the late afternoon, washing some of the grime and sweat of the last day away. The rain cools things down a bit, leaving a nice light fog that eases the last stretch of the day’s trek.

The sun is just beginning to set when you hit the bend in the river, the ranger’s tracks diverging into the forest, planning to cut across the woods en route to the lake instead of following the Hearth all the way upstream. You push the pace, wanting to catch up to the rangers before proper nightfall, lest you move at a snail’s pace trying not to make any noise in the dark.

As the night wears on, the fog gets thicker, making it harder to follow the ranger’s tracks in the woods. Luckily it doesn’t take long until you glimpse soft, orange light through the trees, revealing the rangers camp.

Something’s different though, the rowdy conversations and merriment of last night’s camp replaced with silence. Though you can make out the flickering light of the fire through the trees, the fog obscures the rest of your vision.

There was a tension that fell over Iti'a'Ropku. All Legionnaires had been called to duty and deployed, most of the civilians staying in their homes. Even the osogo pilgrims who stayed in the fields below the city had come up with the ranchers and former colonists to the protection of the fortified city. The docking pylons of the Wormstar Finger platforms were bare of Pirate vessels, the small fleet of visitors departing shortly after Captain Troma had made his own exit from the system following the Solar Arbiters. As much as they enjoyed the festivities and opportunities to be had at the city they had no desire to be in the system when the Ahkam possibly invaded.

Much of the stonestar city lay empty as a large number of the population volunteered to assist in the defenses. Despite not being true Legionnaires, nearly all Stonestar were fighters and warriors in their lifetime. With the Ahkam invasion you came to learn that Necromancer Klikli and several of the other more devout Wormstar worshipers have claimed that this is their opportunity for redemption for their heresy and cause of their banishment. The necromancer themself was deployed on Rukor, fighting in the battlefields against the Ahkam soldiers laying siege against the protected ructu cities.

In the Colosseum the stands held a number of locals who felt more at ease in the company of others rather than secluded in their homes. The parents of young David were among their number watching replays of races and recent events in the arena. The human child was walking with relative ease by that point, the parents coming to rely on the watchful domestic Talon to keep the child within range. The undead seemed to dote on the rapidly growing human, learning to help the parents tend to their needs by feeding and keeping him company, the toddler sized human commonly seen riding the in a carrier on the Talons back through the city. His parents had resumed work on the ranches of the former colony only to become friends and caretakers of the osogo pilgrims.

The three Ahkam serpents had remained on the platform where they had made their fateful proclamation. They watch various holoscreens projected for them by demi-Think Tanks of the battles in the Bastion and Urdir systems. They sat in silence as they see their several of their kin butchered by the Armada and Stonestar, the younger serpents having to look away from the screens several times while Vle'Karak watches in stony silence.

Their attention is drawn away from the screens as they hear footsteps from behind. Twisting around Vle'Karak lets out a satisfied hiss as he spots the pair of epikor approaching them. The epikor twins were clad in Cauldron-forged exoarmors fashioned to evoke the serpents they once served. They come forward to kneel before the Vle'Karak, the pair of epikor speaking in unison, "Vle'Karak, our loyalty has always been to you and you alone. As such, our loyalty is now to the Armada as well, to Death and through it to Eternety."

When the aliens to invade came it was no surprise how the big governments ended up. Now its up .to the little guy to resist. To this day many cities are wrecked. Countless are dead as the aliens seemingly commenced with their purge. Maybe they didn't wanna bother with so many people. The only 'safe' place left is camps sponsored by the aliens. Monsters walk the streets now and worse. Gone are the days where there was a proper military to protect the people that wasn't filled to the brim with aliens and traitors.

Gone is the day where governments were made by man for man.

You are in control of a small rebel group resisting the aliens. The only good news these days is that the aliens primary invader forces have since departed. Replaced by occupying alien forces. Only problem is the 'gifts' they left behind. Monsters and plagues that are literally out of this world. Rumors abound of mind controlled zombies and aliens capable of peering into one's very mind.

You aren't sure about those last two but you do know the monsters and plagues are real. After they got done bombing the cites, bases, and other important locations. They dropped plagues down to deal with the of the surviving population. After all why waste bullets and manpower when you can let nature sort out the rest?

Some of those plagues turned people into...things. Terrible things. Them just killing you was a mercy in the end with what could happen instead. Yet even that didn't complete the job in the end.

After all your still here and that means they failed even now with all they have done. You highly doubt your the only ones left who intend to resist. After all if you survived and intend to resist how could there not be others out there?

And now with the alien invasion finally withdrew with their primary forces. Leaving nothing but those occupiers and traitors...now it was time to fight back. Thus you looked back over at your...measly forces. It's been rough trying to survive out here not in the camps that are the only 'safe' place left, but you accomplished it.

Sadly not without cost. You used up more supplies and bullets then you care to admit. Lost some good people too. Even now you gotta watch out for those mutants, monsters, and alien patrols.

There is also those camps...and you just got word the aliens are now...building new facilities. Purpose unknown as of yet, but you highly down its anything good.

Armaments: Small(human)
Supplies: Small
Medicine: Dangerously Depleted
Population(civilian 0) Fighters 10(2 are currently wounded)

Troops are 9 recruits(green) and 1 Officer(green).

Recruits are unique in that they can be UPGRADED into ANY non special class. In exchange however they suck compared to literally any other class. Officers are a class that can offer bonuses to other troops but are quite weak individually. Better recruits who are more experienced can be directly upgraded into better and possibly unique troops.

Troop upgrades require experience and equipment to be sacrificed in order to rank up.

What do?
>Scavenge for supplies in the ruins
>Scout out the alien construction
>Attack an alien patrol
>Investigate the camps
>Other?

Action votes require a 1d100 in order to count. Combat is squad based and tactics are strongly recommended.

Realistically before we can do anything, we need to make sure we can supply our men

GM Note: We had some delays and technical mishaps with the start of the first campaign. We're back in action now and going to jump right in with a re-start. I would like to keep the role play open-ended, as opposed to multiple choice/options based. I will try to incorporate most actions if several are suggested with equal agreement. Let's do this!]

Draven stirs awake as a knock is heard at his door. The tiny metal compartment, serving as Draven's living quarters aboard The Merchant transport ship, rings with a thunderous boom. The security monitor screen lights up beside his bed, offering a panoramic view of the corridor just outside his quarters. A fatigued officer is seen standing at his door, accompanied by two subordinates. The knock pounds again.

Draven studies the monitor beside his bed as he sits up in bed, swings his legs over the side of the bed and stands up. He quickly pulls on a pair of pants laying on the floor at the side of his bed as he walks to the door and opens it while still zipping up his pants. The polyalloy door slides to the side, revealing an officer and two marine escorts. Half asleep, Draven does not salute right away. He receives a raised eyebrow from the officer. The two grunts to his side swap glances. Noticing the marine’s expressions, Draven stands firm and properly salutes the officer in front of him. "Good morning, Sir. How may I be of assistance?"

The officer replies in proper salute and furrows his brow somewhat. He ducks beneath the narrow arch of the door and strolls inside Draven's quarters, the two marines in tow. The officer looks around the quarters briefly and then returns his gaze to Draven. "Good morning, Private. You can be of assistance by first getting me some coffee. Black." Draven notices that the two marines maintain their position on either side of the door, just as it slides closed. He does not recognize the officer but notices the Colonel bars on his stiff shirt collar.

What do you do?

anons tend to get stuck if they aren't offered some basic options if you want to encourage them to come up with something more open ended then include >Other. Which is basically a write in option for whatever.

It makes a big difference. Don't know why but anons tend to be a lot more unsure on what do do if basic options aren't given. Even if they do tend to ignore them a lot in favor for the >write in option.

Its a weird thing but makes a vast difference if your a QM. Especially on a super slow board like /qst/. Its a real struggle to survive here as a QM even if you did well on /tg/. I learned this the hard way.

Anyway salute the officer in return. As a Ghost officers are the one thing you aren't allowed to piss off.

Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roselia)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: Tabo Island, outside a tiny mainlander town.

A science fantasy skirmish game. Clad yourself in powered armor, take up your gun and blade, and join the fight to reclaim our homeworld.

Previously on Freelancers:

Our strike team of new recruits assaulted a Scav base on the outskirts of a ruined city. They succeeded in their mission to retrieve the nexus generator, and evacuated without any casualties, escaping the terrifying power of Thane Ravix and leaving his band of looters in the dust. The team now returns to the company headquarters in the dropship.

The dropship passes through the clouds, and the company headquarters comes into view: a fortress from the golden age, tucked away in a small valley high in the mountains. Its ancient walls still stand -- mostly.

Commander Graves gives a few of you hearty slaps on the back as he passes by your seats. "Good work out there, recruits. Not only did you fetch that nexus generator, but you all made it back alive! And most of you in one piece! The statistics on that are -- err, well, let's just say I'll gladly toast your health at the bar later."

The hangar door opens below you, and the dropship descends.

Graves:

Take some time to relax. You've earned it. But not too much time. The Captain will have use for us again soon enough. Make sure to get your armor and weapons fixed up at the forge, and get your gear recharged at the alchemist's lab. Any of you who took a hit through the armor, get yourselves patched up in the medbay.

Everyone should hit the shooting gallery when they get a chance, too. Part of being a Freelancer is explosive growth of abilities. Sometimes literally. You'll see what I mean. In any case, you should be stronger now that you've had some experience in battle.

All right, I'm off to debrief the Captain. You lot stay out of trouble until the next time she needs you to punch out some Scavs.

The weeks following the strike against the heretics are quiet, with only some minor grumbling from the populace regarding the new rationing system....

That is finally broken when a Inquisition
shuttle carrying a pictgraph recording arrives in the system, providing a message from Corean for you and your trusted leadership....

You have the command room cleared of all but Captain Felix, Sergeant Zachias. Colonel Detorio, Captain Masson and a number of other important officers and planetary administration officials....

The video plays, Lord Inquisitor Corean dressed in a more regal manner than his regular armored tunic....

He announces that Asteria III has fallen to rebels, and has declared for the separatist force.....

He also announces that Sector Lord Andreas Kennedy has been executed for extreme negligence and incompetence amounting to treason......

He then declares himself Lord Regent of the Icara sector and that all loyal Governors and Imperial Governors are to join him at Jotun II, a fortress world near the northern border and western border of the Sector

He is forming a war council, and has begun formally gathering forces from all non-engaged loyalist forces for a massive push back at the Separatist forces.....

Welcome to Ophit, the Grand Continent, and Birthplace of the Dillid Empire who united it more than 400 years ago, and brought peace and properity to it... up until last year when after century of infighting in the Imperial Family for the Glass Throne, And the assassination of the last legitimate member of the Family, the Empress, a 3 years old girl was assasinated.
Since then the Empire collapsed, war broke out between all the Nobles, Bastard of the Imperial Family, and other Powerful Figure and Organisation of the Empire. And their is no sign that any faction will be able to reunite the Empire.

Amidst all of this Chaos, you are Sill, a young boy living in the remote Mining Village of Czam, largerly unaffected by the wars, Who Awoke to a strange sight this Morning.

Three Wisp of colored Light float above you, happily dancing and singing an incomprehensible lullaby. One Black, One Grey, One Red.

You are lying on your bed, eyes open, confused by the strange sight:
>Try to Reach the [Color] wisp with your hand
>Try to sneak out of your room
>Stay still and pretend to be back at sleep and wait
>Scream like a Little bitch
>Try to talk to them

As you hastily close your eyes, you hear the lullaby stop, no more sound in your room, the silence is stressing, but you keep up your masquerade for now.

Then you hear a wisper in your ear:

"Good morning child, we are here to offer you our Master's blessing, Please would you be kind enough to pick one of us? the Master won't be pleased if all three of us come back after having failed our mission."

Hey and We're back.

You are Alex Mason, a successful school shooter who died and was thrown into westeros. Horse fuckers btfo

You head back to the horse merchant, and explain you would rather have a mare as a travel horse and you'd like to replace henry. He eyes you suspiciously but accepts. He leads Henry back into the pen and then leads out what you assume is a mare. He says her name is Mildred. He also has a cart which you buy for 10 silver stags. You throw your belongings in the cart after attaching Mildred, Before leaving the market you purchase a stool for a single silver piece. Its a nice stool if you do say so yourself.

You head just outside of town, Where do you go now?
Its around 11 Am

You are Colors Eriksdotter, terminally gay, and this date has suddenly sideswiped into Depression City so hard that it's almost like you're with a Lost instead of a mortal. You are not taking it well.

"What? No! Fancy, we can still have a good time," you almost plead.

You can feel her biting retort form, hot and angry and sharp, harsh enough to give off the whiff of Glamour laced with rage and sorrow, but the dancer sees the look on your face and thinks better of it; Fancy bites her lip, sighs, and pushes her fries away.

"Probably not," she says after a moment. "...But I guess we can talk, a bit. Let's settle our bill and get my car."

There is an unfortunate cross-section between 'things you never learned about properly' and 'things you're expected to do as an adult', and tipping your server is one of them. You wait until Marcy is distracted with someone else, then drop four twenties on the table and pull Fancy out the front door as fast as you dare. The dancer looks back over her shoulder in amazement as the two of you leave and hit the sidewalk.

"She havin' a rough time?" Fancy asks at last.

"Nnnnnoooooo?" you hazard.

"...You sleepin' with her or her family?"

"No!"

"Why -"

"Reasons. Magic reasons." You adjust the strap of your purse and stare straight ahead, trying and failing to will the awkward embarrassment off of your face, but thankfully Fancy seems willing to just let it drop. "So...thoughts on the whole...car...thing?"

"Figured we can sit up in the garage and talk for a spell," Fancy admits. "...It's not anything personal, Colors. Everyone's got...we all work through some shit. And some of that has to take time."

"Yeah," you murmur, deflating. "I guess."

Fancy seems to be deciding something, and when she arrives at her conclusion she talks in a low voice, not hurt but with the memory of hurt, with old pains held close for too long. "The thing that gets me is, even after she was right, Jasmine was still wrong," the dancer tells you. "She went looking for magic inside little tablets, swore she was getting close to some, some higher dimension, some transcendent knowledge, and it was just acid, you know? She ruined her life for nothing, chasing...chasing you, I guess."

You enter the Archivum structure and are greeted with a blast of climate-controlled air. The humidity of outside had been lost on you, but now you feel cool.

You are greeted by a man and a woman. The woman bears brown robes, but the man bears blue with red inside.

"Ah, welcome! You are Ace, right? How is the airship?"

You gaze around, the structure seems empty.

"Those FEATHER soldiers made this, but they have yet to tell us how any of what they have works. It's pretty frustrating to see all that technology and not know a bit about it..." The man crosses his arms, "They just told us how to control the air and lights in here."

"New shipments of Archivum materials are due by airship. Until then it's just us..." The woman apologizes.
>Thank them and leave (choose shops or operations)
>How do the FEATHER people treat you guys?
>How has the city coped with the changes?

Let's try this from the top.
No real system. No mad gods. No underground labyrinth. Just a bunch of young kids trying to get through school.
You all start in your houses. Your parents are downstairs for one reason or another. It is time for school, but you don't have to go.

Everybody starts with some basic items.
