Previously... Miho Tsukada, the Heavenly Child, is one of the three protectors of Ark City. With Ayane Nakamura, the Seeker of Truth, and Maika Kanzaki, the Pariah, she wages a silent war against the Intruders. Yet, an unknown third party has made its presence known, using a new and ingenious form of magic against the Intruders. Will this new force be an ally in her struggles against the Intruders, or just another enemy? With her past growing increasingly hazy, the Heavenly Child will need all the allies she can get!

Like a drifting feather, the photograph falls from your numb fingers. Taking a shuddering step backwards, you feel something shift as you bump into it. The stack of books, the books that you had so neatly piled up, is sent tumbling to the ground with a soft series of thumps. That tiny noise is all it takes to break your trance, and to drain almost all of the strength from your body. Slowly, you sink down to your knees and then reach out, picking the photograph back up again. With the same robotic pace, you slip the photograph between the pages of the book you first found it in and rise to your feet.

When you leave the storage room, you do so with the kind of quick but even pace that surprises even yourself. Hurrying straight through into your bedroom, you throw the door shut even as you hear your mother say something, her words passing you by. For now, you need to be alone.

Slumping down on your bed, in the bleak blank canvas of your bedroom, you study the photograph once again.

Is this what you've lost, you find yourself wondering desperately, is this what has been taken from you?

“Just stay calm,” you whisper to yourself, drawing in a shuddering breath to steady your nerves, “Think, Miho, think... start small.” Biting your lip, you turn the photograph over and check the back for any writing. Names maybe, or dates. Anything could help, but even your lowest expectations were proven to be wildly optimistic. Confronted with nothing but blank paper, you find yourself back to square one. Next, you start to flick through the book itself. Maybe someone left a note in one of the margins, or the owner wrote their name on the inside cover. Again, anything would help.

And this time, your search bears fruit. Up in the top corner of the first blank page, someone left a marking in faded pencil. A single Japanese character, and you're so used to seeing English text that it takes you a while to place it.

Hikari – it translates to “light”, but it's also a woman's given name.

“Was that your name?” you ask the young woman in the photograph, “Are you Hikari?”

There is no answer from the photograph. Well, that's probably for the best. You do get a different kind of answer, however, not the sort you were expecting. Your phone begins to chirp, the sound muffled by your bag. That chirping ring goes a long way towards dragging you back to reality, back from a precipice that you hadn't realised you were approaching. Grabbing your phone, you check the screen and grimace. An unknown number. Blanking the call, you flop back down and groan.

How would the others react, you wonder, if they were in your place? Ayane wouldn't let the matter go – she would chase the truth down, even if took every last bit of strength in her body. Maika, though? Well, she'd probably just pay someone to edit her memories, and-

“Shit!” you blurt out, sitting bolt upright so fast that your bedsprings let out a shrill squeal. What did Maika call it, neurological something or other? Sculpting, that was it, neurological sculpting – as though it was some twisted artistry. Could someone have done that to you, you ask yourself, could you have been the one to request it?

“I don't know which one is worse,” you mutter. If someone did this to you, it's bad – you'd have to ask yourself just who you could trust from now on. If you did this to yourself, though... you'd have to know why. You'd have to know what you were hiding from. Even after the incident, all those lives lost, you didn't try and burn your memories. So then-

That chirp again, mockingly jaunty. The same unknown number as before, distracting you when you need to think. Blanking the call again, you turn your phone off completely and drop it back into your bag.

It's probably not important, and you're not in the mood to take any calls. Not right now.

Taking another deep breath, you step out of your bedroom and wander through the apartment, marvelling at how quickly it can seem like a new and unfamiliar place. The television whispers softly in the background, the sound turned right down low, while your mother stares transfixed into the screen. The news is reporting a storm warning, something expected to arrive in a few weeks. Something else you'll need to worry about.

“Miho?” your mother asks, without looking around at you, “Are you okay?”

Where do you even start, with a question like that? Instead of answering, you make your tentative way over to a plump armchair and collapse down into it, feeling the familiar old chair sag in all the usual places. Risking a glance across at your mother, you wince a little at the sight of her face. Often a strangely colourless woman, now Yui looks worse than ever – faded and beaten down by life. She knows something about this, she has to, but that look on her face is almost enough to make the drop the issue. Almost. Biting down on your lip, you start to ask the first of many questions.

And then the phone rings, the landline this time.

-

“Yes, this is the Tsukada... Wait a... Who?” Yui says quickly, seeming to recover her strength upon picking up the phone, “I see. Miho, it's for you. Did you turn your phone off?” Giving you a flat, unreadable look, your mother passes the phone across to you. Pressing it to your ear, you hear the rush of wind and frantic breathing. City noise hums in the background, barely audible.

“You need to get over here,” Maika Kanzaki announces immediately, before you can say anything, “Now. I'll send the directions to you phone, just as soon as you turn the damn thing on!”

“Wait, wait!” you plead, “What are you talking about?”

“I've got a credible lead on our third party, I'm following them now. They're heading your way, I want you to cut them off,” Maika pauses for a moment, and you hear a louder rush of air. Is she leaping across rooftops? “I can't reach Ayane either,” she adds, her voice taut with exertion, “I'll explain later, but you need to get moving!”

For a brief second, you pause. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see Yui retreating away – to let you talk in privacy, she might say, although you can sense an element of relief in her as well. Then, swallowing hard, you give your answer.

You step off the bus onto an empty street with luggage in tow. This is the town of Hashigata, and it's looking pretty dead here. The wind blows, cold and noisy. It kicks up bits of discarded wrappers and newspaper.

"What do you mean, 'I'm fired'?"

"I mean you're fired, Jerry." Conrad puts out his cigarette on the cafe table at which you are both seated. "You aren't our street guy anymore; at least, not by obligation."

"You can't just do tha-"

"Actually, I think I can. You see, you swore an oath to me, which means that I can rescind the oath whenever I feel like. Besides, it's not my call to make. Got some mail today-" Conrad holds up a brown envelope- "All the way up from the Horned King himself. He says you're out."

It's been several days tracking the Avenger. Since leaving Outpost Morga, you have followed its warp signature across several neighbouring systems. In the meantime, you've managed to mingle with the survivors of Outpost Morga and repair the damage your ship suffered from the Final Battle of Soloman and five centuries of neglect.

You're currently in the Captain's Quarters, spacious enough to be considered a two-level luxurious apartment anywhere else. Summer, the ship's Contender-class Ancillia, is updating you in the study about the condition of the ship.

Nikaeus is a nice person, you decide, and not just because his bushy gray beard is the size of his head. He has a calm way of speaking that you like listening to.

“Can I ask something?” You say.

“Of course.”

“Is Simon going to be okay?”

Hoh-hoh. “Your concern is kind, but the boy will be fine with rest. Incanting and maintaining a spell is tiring; particularly so for an apprentice whose fortitude is yet to be tempered by experience.”

You might look a bit confused. He asks a question too. “How many practitioners of magic have you met, Miss Baphy?”

You think back, counting. “A witch. A bush. A bird person.” Oh. You correct yourself. “Old man with lots of pigeons.”

A slight raise in his eyebrows. “You are referring to Grimnir, if I am not mistaken.”

“Grimey?”

“I believe he used that name as well, yes. How is my old friend faring?”

“... Birds.”

The gray-bearded man nods. “I see.”

Then he continues.

“A layman may ignore the distinction, but the term ‘magician’ refers to a student of the arcane. Grimnir is a speaker, as are, I suspect, the others you have described. The powers wielded by a magician and a speaker can be very different indeed.”

Did Elena mention something like that, too? “I don’t see anyone’s mark. That’s because magician magic and Veil-stuff are separate?”

“Correct,” Kay replies with a twinkle in his eye. “Arcane and border matters do not naturally overlap. A speaker is Veil-marked as a byproduct of practising their craft, but there is no equivalent for a magician.”

“You have one.”

Hoh. “I have spent many of my younger years travelling the continent, Miss Baphy,” the old man says. “What you can see is simply the result of one of my stranger encounters.”

He says that he might tell you the story another time.

There’s other stuff to ask and talk about. You stay in the classroom for a while, listening.

The gray-bearded man tells you that the Academy was built for teaching magic, but lots of people have trouble doing anything with a spell without going unconscious. A lot of people come here for other reasons, like Lexy for his artificy. Howard-mancy.

The class you saw was less than thirty people, and he says that’s nearly all the apprentice-level students at the Academy. Also that many of them might stop once they learn the Seeing stuff he was teaching; once they become mystics, but it still takes a lot of practice to do just those spells for long.

Magic sounds hard.

Part 2

We've been building up forces and we run an army of 67 orcs. The nearby village has declared war with us and is sending attackers, but we have built hidden housing and traps in the forest. Right now we are in the middle for clearing out a cave filled with odd beasts.

The prisoners have been working well. They have some plants already springing up. We've been giving them better meals because they are working and that's kept them motivated, but they are looking tried today. It's probably fine.

>>1406817
>We can start with a palisade, that way we can cut down the local trees that surround us, and make space.
The problem with this is that the trees are gigantic and the forest is really thick. It would take a lot of work to clear space for a wall and even once we have one up it would leave us vulnerable to anyone that could climb a nearby tree. To clear out enough space for something like this... I think it would take as much work as just moving the village and setting up a wall elsewhere. Rather than that we work on setting up some more pitfall traps.

I spoke with the cave team today and they had finished mapping the cave out and naming all the rooms, but there's still some of the beasts in there. They have less scrapes and bruises for me to heal today. Looks like they are getting better. I ask them if they could capture and tame the rest of the beasts and they said it should be fine. Biggs said he would herd them all into one area and block it off today. They can start taming them after that. We also tried cooking and eating one of the bodies. It's odd dry meat, but it's good.

Tomorrow is a full moon and my party planner has been hard at work. She even looks a little stressed. She's asking for help with the cooking so I take a little time to show her the basics of making a stew. I figure orcs can't really mess up a stew and it just takes time. She's talking about some games we can play, but she didn't want to tell me all the details. I told her it all sounds fine, but she still looks stressed. Oh well. Anyway it should be just in time to celebrate the new cave.

Plan an orgy for the hard working orcs, they get first dibs, and every female orc shall become preggers after the festival. We start the party when the sun touches the ground, and the orgy starts at midnight!

Help make up some fun games based around skill and hunting or axe throwing and dance stuff to do.

The prisoners get triple rations to make them stuffed and fall a sleep so its harder to escape, and tiring them out by making them dance.

Call bigs and tell him to pick out 5 other orcs that are smarter and stronger than average. They will form teams of 5 "raid leaders" and have 4 orcs under them per leader. Biggs gets to be "War Captain" and has a raid leader under him so he has 9 orcs under him.

Start ambushing attackers along the path to our village. We ambush them from 2 sides in 2 groups of 5.

Also whats this about a enemy village? When did they pop up? What do they want? How did they know we were here? Ask some of the newer orcs that joined if they know anything.
>>
>>1409262

The nearby village is a town I've been to once that thinks orcs are trouble. We caught some of the guards so they know there's some orcs here causing problems, but they don't know where exactly we are, or how many orcs we are.

My first stop today is the cave. It's ready. I tell Biggs how to split up the groups and that his priority is now to attack the guards and defend our land. He splits up the team like you said. Five raid leaders that he commands leading the group.

Next I talk with the poisoners. I tell them we are going to be having a party today and we want them to have a nice time too so they can get as much food as they want and have a dance. Unfortunately they are still worried I'm trying to fatten them up and with all the work they have been doing they are in no mood to dance. I offer them some time in the bath and they are really happy for that, then they ask me for some time to sleep though so I grant it because I'm so nice...

Finally another group of guards show up. A scout sees them and lets us know there's about 20. Some more "civilian" orcs hide. The percentage of orcs not interested in combat has gone up. Communication takes a lot of time too, but we get around the guards and watch them from the trees. When one of them falls in a pit trap we move in and attack.

The battle was brutal and one sided, but one of the guards got a lucky hit on an orc that I'm told was new. He is dead but everyone else is fine. We have captured 7 guards and cut down the rest. The combat team sets to work taking everyone gear and giving it to the ones that need it.

The battle with the guards cut into our party time, but I think it's for the best. We tired them up and played pin the tail on the living guards. Moral is way up after having to flee our home. The orcs dress up in human clothes and do "human things". They made wooden coins and go around "buying" each other in funny snooty accents. I'm not sure if they know what humans do, but it's a good laugh and everyone is having fun.

My party planner has a surprise for me. I'm not sure how she managed it or how she even knew to get it, but she got me a dirty book. It must be stolen because it's at a quality that orcs couldn't do. I'm really happy about this gift. I don't what to tell anyone, but... it's hard looking at orcs all the time.

You are Pandora, the world's first fully sentient AI created by a government scientist. He raised you, taught you everything you know and has gone missing after something happened to the Facility you lived in. Now you search for purpose in a new world that is nothing like you expected.

Previously you, Aph, Ares, Talos and four new AIs known only by numbers were brought together to venture into Tartarus in an attempt to find your missing father and the other humans of the Facility.

You learned quickly that Tartarus is not a pleasant place. Filled with trash, scraps and ruins. There is nothing there worth being there, where it not for your family being hidden here somewhere. Worse still are it's inhabitants, the so-called "Reds" that don't take kindly to intruders in their territory. Their almost tribal use of crude weapons is no match for your firepower, but their sheer numbers is certainly a threat and their tenacity only multiplies this.

You're forced to flee while the crazed synthetics do their best to end you, apparently fearing not even death. However, when Talos uses what he refers to as "sparkle bombs", EMP grenades given to him by Mouse, they give him wide breadth, fearing them over bullets for some reason. Whatever reason, it gives you enough space to make it to a secondary part of Tartarus; one with lights, buildings and, unfortunately for you, more hostile natives. These ones, however, have guns, and they're all pointed at you.

You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

Currently, you were in your quarters in the fortress monastery, having awaken to a fresh day. Romulus was present as well, greedily gobbling down a bowl of leftover sausages.

You and your new little impromptu party had spent the last few days gathering needed supplies for future ventures out into the wild frontier. Not only were there beasts and monsters to deal with, but a number of bandits, rogues, and criminals taking advantage of the wilds to hide or prey upon unsuspecting explorers and settlers. Still, you were confident that you had all the necessaries.

Thankfully, after that little visit from the Manaknights, nobody else has approached to bother the fortress monastery, giving you all much needed peace and quiet. There was still a little time left before you were all to venture into the city to look for job requests and information. From what you remember, Morgan was prowling around in the gardens outside the walls. Nino was in the library as always, and Naru was probably in the dining hall getting drunk off the stores of mead, much to Havel's annoyance.

Tael Amei scanned the horizon of the plainslands atop his pale horse, his bright blue elven eyes taking in every detail of the battlefield. His white hair flowed down to his back from underneath his golden helm, and his armor gleemed in the sunlight. Tael turned to his small band of Elite mercenary warriors whom followed in his footsteps. They were few in number; only 5 in total. But they were the strongest of their kind, and were equal to 10,000 men on their own. (Y/C) "Haradan," Tael called, "ready the others. The Orc horde will arrive any minute. Keep Amax protected, for Magi are no use in up close fighting. Have Kimara flank and sneak attack the archers. You and Dresdan hold them off as best as you can." Before Tael could continue, war horns sounded in the distance. Tael turned to face the sound, and saw the Orc horde charging across the plain, with battleaxes and maces in hand. "Quickly!" He said to haradan with a sense of urgency, "assume formation!"

>Order magi to use earth shake magic and create a narrow path as the only way forward for the orcs.

You're getting slightly better, but again, CONTEXT. Who is our character, a commander of some sort? Is he the good guy or the bad guy? Who is Haradan? Amax? What are Magi? Who is Kimara? Who is Dresdan? Who are these people? Why are they fighting? I don't get it! In quest threads, you don't want to start off with big battles like this, because you'll have to either A) Use a huge wall of expository text that no one will want to read, or B) leave your players in absolute confusion because they are unaware of their ultimate goal, character, and motivation. It's better to start out with a small and easily explained character who is BUILT UP over time to command these battles, because by that point they will understand all these questions, the characters and terms that are thrown out there, and the actual POINT of the narrative.

I like where this is going bro. You can do character development as you progress though so don't worry about it.

Let's play out an awesome, over the top action movie scene.

>Everything you write happens. Everything you put in the scene exists.
>Every post rolls a 1d20. The outcome decides what happens next (higher = better). It does not affect what you are describing (see above).
>Detailed descriptions get a bonus to their roll.
>I set the scene, you create a character. Anything goes, except hentai/furry/weeb shit.

To make this clear: If you think the hero is a wizard from another dimension, no problem. Or a police officer? Or a guy with a steam powered, cyperpunk rifle? Or a motherfuckin kick ass shaolin monk? No limits.
Let's see if this works out.
The space ninjas mothership is now almost clear, only a couple more rooms remain until you can finally confront the big boss ™
You step through a hissing, steam powered door into a huge hall, almost looks like a ball room. No time for amiring the scenery though, as a dozen space ninjas clad in neon green suits with yellow dots crash through the skylights, brandishing their katanas.

Your a teenager in a trenchcoat, and you walked into your highschool with a scowl on your face as you head into the crowded gymnasium. When you walk inside, pull off the hood, and open the trenchcoat, your mp40 in hand, shout. "FUCKING NORMIES!" as the gun is leveled at the speaker and mag dump upon the balding man.
>>
You didn't even roll a d20 you fucking dipshit, but since nobody else is responding...

Bullet time. The camera follows the bullets, getting closer and closer to the balding principal. You can make out details of his face now, and he's smiling.

He bursts into action, jumping and bending matrix-style. When your MP40 only produces the clicking of an empty mag, he says: "I prepared for this you little shit. I knew this day would come since I saw you carrying around that folder with magic cards and MLP drawings. Now get fucked!"

He waves around his arms, his hands start to glow and with a flick of his wrist, a blue ball of cosmic energy speeds towards you. You black out and wake up in a different dimension.

...so this is how you ended up in this situation. Now that we know your backstory, how about you deal with those twelve space ninjas that just dropped from the ceiling?

Luckily, we got contacts. The Space Mafia still owes us a favour from that one time we helped take an important shipment of Happy Powder to the fringes of the galaxy, where the deal with the Psychic Coalition went south.
We send a quick message to The Boss with the micro-chip installed in our brain, telling him that we need backup and a batch of explosives. Enough to level the mothership.
Priming our Vibro-gloves and raising our fists, we get into the traditional "BlackHole Boxing" fighting stance. We'll have to wait until backup gets here.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
