Do you think it was the right decision to fire such a beloved mod over something so trivial? It was a warning that carried no gravity; it was used to communicate to the user on this board (/qa/).
Please think about the values that 4chan should hold and the community you want to foster here.
Anonymous-san was an outstanding moderator and a breath of fresh air as he interacted with the users here. This is something sorely missing from 4chan these days.

>Dude don't fire the mod for threatening users who go against his political agenda, just give him a talking to so he can be more subtle about his warnings/bans in the future.
That mod may as well have handed in his resignation when he decided to start pushing his personal beliefs on others and using his mod power to do it.
Yes he did only warn the person, but it was clearly politically charged, a threat to ban him in the future, and plenty of other people did actually get banned and other mods overturned those bans when he got fired.

Don't act like he would have never ever done it again if he was just warned. He would have just left the ban reason blank in the future so he wouldn't be caught

>>
Bring back consensus threads for 2017! It's about time the boards made their new year's resolutions!
>>
>>923635
Of course I did, but there seems to be a disconnect between what happened and how you are reacting to it. Did you read all of A-san's posts? It was a warning message on /qa/ to answer a thread since A-san did not have permission to post under a mod capcode. When you said there were no mod logs, do you mean at the time when he said he was going to use a warn message?
No policy changed as a result as the threads were banned (and are still banned) by other moderators. The manager said he was going to "investigate" A-san's bans, but it seems nothing was investigated as he never posted again.
He admitted to his mistake and the manager (RapeApe?) canned him without hearing an explanation. Again, there was no evidence gathered to imply he was biased in how he moderated at all.
Please reconsider this situation as 4chan can not afford to have less moderation these days, and he was very much appreciated by the community outside of /pol/.
>>
>>923610
>That mod may as well have handed in his resignation when he decided to start pushing his personal beliefs on others and using his mod power to do it.
Mods have been doing this for fucking years and RapeApe, who was the prick who axed the moderator in question was fucking informaous for doing this exact sort of thing on /a/ for basically all of 2013.
Hypocritical piece of shit.

Why the fuck are you such a shitty admin? There's no fucking way you don't know that people have been complaining about (You) getting removed for days now, and you finally make a thread and address none of these concerns and instead just shoot the shit asking how peoples year was.
My year was shitty because I'm slowly watching my favorite site go to pure shit because an incompetent lazy jew is running it into the ground, ignoring every single shred of criticism, and only listening to people who suck off his ego and buy good goy passes.

But yeah, keep ignoring the countless people with legit concerns about you just removing useful features of the site with absolutely no explanation why, and keep responding to people asking how you liked anime.
>>

And, I don't know why.

Deal with it
>>
>>923705
It didn't happen at all as far as your lack of proof goes
>>
>>923701
Not him but:

His posts always start with Anonymous-San here, rather than asan which was supposedly posted in the IRC. He also used a tripcode, I don't remember what it was though. Just thought I'd point that little bit of information out.

Best of luck investigating it. Cheers.
>>
>>923710
>>923711
Way to disregard an entire post with fake broken english, you fucking twit. You've already showed everyone you can speak perfect english on twitter.
>>
>>923701
From what he said he had logs, but he trimmed them of sensitive information for the /qa/ threads where he explained his recollection of events. (Is it true that 4chan staff has an NDA?)
Have you thought about asking him directly? Maybe you, the manager and Anonymous-san can figure things out. Maybe talk to the other mods, too. If 4chan is a community, don't you think the staff should be one too? Communication is important.
This could all be fixed by talking to your staff.

>>923713
A warning is not "censoring", /pol/ and the threads are still banned.

>>923710
>>923711
what did he meant by this
>>
>>923710
>And, I don't know why.
You don't know why (You) was removed? You're the fucking owner of the site, head admin, and you don't know why a major feature of your own fucking site was removed?

Can you just admit you either don't give a single fuck about this site beyond money, or you have mods who feel they have so much power they can make changes without consulting you at all?
Because it's one of those two
>>
>>923711

asan was already fired at one time for that. He came back to not too recently apparently.

asan violated no rules, he simply used the warning system to deliver a politically neutral message which was manipulated by /pol/ to get him banned for hurting their feelings. Using the warning system to deliver such a message was commonplace back when asan was originally a mod.

>>

>Only 4chan pass users can vote.
See all the above post calling you out on this stupid shit, Hiro.
>>
Hey, let's try to go back to the OP for a minute (for us non-pass users!)

How was your year, explain in detail, in the good 'ol 4chan style!

>me
>wake up
>browse websites I like, like 4chan's /g/, lainchan, endchan, and other chans
>meet wonderful people from various communities
>start my own for a bit
>be kind of bummed when Kalyx sold Lainchan, but be excited because Appleman1234 looks really promising as admin
>enjoy hanging out in dubtrack channels, listing to music with my online friends
>mess around with GIMP, learn some cool things
>be optimistic
>basically this for 365 days
As you can see, my life mostly revolves around internet communities, I even considered starting one at one point!

So, tell me about yours now, and let's stop pestering Hiro for a moment.

I'm on a site that is actually the genesis of the meme "GOOD LUCK I'M BEHIND SEVEN PROXIES". This entire site is about people saying stupid shit solely because it amuses them.

I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

>>
>>923791
Okay, after thinking I think I've figured this out.

You know how Rizon does a proxy scan? What if you were to setup an IRC bot that handled the voting?

Setup a webpage that requires a CAPTCHA

From there, the website will generate for you an Invite code. You use that Invite code to join an invite only IRC channel.

You may then tell the IRC bot your vote. The website would only give one invite per IP address.

To re-clarify:

You go to 4chan.org/verify
Fill out captcha
get code
join IRC channel with the code that you get
tell bot your vote
leave

First, 4chan gives you an invite (one per IP)
You use that invite to join the irc channel. Rizon handles proxy blocking.
You then get to vote.

This honestly seems quite complicated, the only other solution I could think of is dropping all traffic to 4chan originating from proxies.

Heh… not bad, kid. Not bad at all. Your meme, I mean. It’s not bad. A good first attempt. It’s plenty dank… I can tell it’s got some thought behind it… lots of quotable material… But memeing isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, kid. You’re skilled… that much I can tell. But do you have what it takes to be a Memester? To join those esteemed meme ranks? Memeing takes talent, that much is true. But more than that it takes heart. The world-class Memesters - they’re out there day and night, burning the midnight meme-oil, working tirelessly to craft that next big meme. And you know what, kid? 99 times out of a hundred, that new meme fails. Someone dismisses it as bait, or says it’s “tryhard,” or ignores it as they copy/paste the latest shitpost copypasta dreamt up by those sorry excuses for cut-rate memers over at reddit. The Meme Game is rough, kid, and I don’t just mean the one you just lost :). It’s a rough business, and for every artisan meme you craft in your meme bakery, some cocksucker at 9gag has a picture of a duck or some shit that a million different Johnny No-Names will attach a milion different captions to.

Chin up, kid. Don’t get all mopey on me. You’ve got skill. You’ve got talent. You just need to show your drive.

Everyone on 4chan should have an equal say in things. There should be no vip board blocking people out or polls/any features that only some can use if they pay. Buying a pass was originally like a donation to support the site. But we are still part of the same community and people who don't pay should still get a say. And I say this as a pass user.

There's tons of ways to get accurate polling done. They're just not very practical for 4chan.

For example, the board software MyBB (Requires accounts) has a poll feature that can be used on any thread. You could probably see it live if you had an account on someplace like hackforums which uses MyBB, I also think PHPBB supports it.

So, we're going to leave it up to the pass users then?

Nobody bar one or two pass users wanted to remove (You)s, nobody had a problem with them, many people liked them.

It's trustworthy enough and people have given several suggestions already. By being this greedy you give people less incentive to buy passes, not more. You're splitting the site by giving special perks to pass users. Nobody wants to give money to a site that is unfair. They will if you actually give a shit and treat them fairly. I know you wanna make money, which is fine. And there are other ways like merch, not being obviously greedy, etc. By doing things people view as unfair all you do is hurt your own potential profits, not expand them.

Also how do we know you aren't rigging the votes yourself? What's to stop the owner of the site from adding a couple extra votes here and there, knowing that we literally could not prove if you did it or not?

The question, why does a feature that adds 3 characters of text that can be disabled and enabled next to a post link need a 100% accurate poll on why we shouldn't remove, why would you regress site features like that.

That means nothing
Its a trustworthy group
But definitely Not a trustworthy sample
You have absolutely no means of ensuring their views represent in general, the rest of the site as it is a "sample" of only a particular group on the site, and therefore not a sample of the site.

It is not a trustworthy sample, it is nothing.

Whats to stop people from buying multiple passes on multiple computers? Your polling must not be acceptably secure if someone *can* vote more than once right?

Actually, sample size matters a lot. If you ask two people "do you like X?" And they both have a different answer, you cannot accurately judge that 50% of people think X. On a site as large as 4chan you need a significant sample size and a firm idea of the community. Do you need a community manager? Because I'll literally do it for free if it means we can stop beating around the bush on shit and give people what they want. You win due to profits, the users win because their admin is fair and makes good decisions.

Hiro, why do you allow yourself to be treated so terribly by these people? They call you horrible slurs, they question your professionalism, and they accuse you of having terrible motives, all for no good reason.

It is because of /pol/'s contnued ability to act with impunity that people believe this is acceptable. They do this all the time, to many people, and they get away with it, so others think that they should be able to as well. You should make an example out of /pol/, so that people will know that they have to treat other people with respect. I suggest that you should just delete /pol/ completely. Maybe not even forever: maybe just for the monh of January, so that they have to take a vacation and relax for a while. Then they can come back nice and refreshed, and maybe in a better mood.

To be fair as someone who posts on /pol/ frequently, a lot of people are just getting fucking fed up with our ridiculous PC society and sjw in all forms of media. People express this discontent and people immediately scream
>BACK TO POL
I posted mostly on /v/ before checking out /pol/, and was getting sick of mainstream vidya slowly being invaded by this PC policing and sjw themes being injected into games.
Like we have fucking professional video game reviewers, who's whole job is to be unbiased and review a fucking game, scoring games shitty and citing the reason as "it objectifies women"

People are just slowly becoming more and more like /pol/ as a reaction to these insane fucking people. That being said, I'm not wanting people to spout gas the kikes ect, just want them to be unafraid to say their opinions and not be fired for them
>>
>>924104
IPs are too easy to change, cookies are too easy to delete or alter, and although captchas do make automation more difficult they do not make it impossible. No proof.

There is also the problem hat /pol/ figured out ages ago how to manufacture sample results, even in the face of mehods like these: all you have to do is manipulate the sample itself. There are already people accusing Hiro of this in this very thread.

He hired (a chain of) devs to try and make the site a lot less shit, they were having a huge migratory thing to "Infinity plus" or some such but after like a day or so of the site being down or unresponsive they gave up and went back to the old/current site structure.

The one after that was some chink I think, who effectively just stole money from hotwheels.

Then the current guy who's not as much of a fuck up as the others.

The issue I personally have with /pol/ and /pol/ users is that they tend to shitpost with memes like "cuck", It's not that I can't handle it, It just derails conversation. I love to hear opinions other than mine. I try my best to avoid hugboxes but I do try to avoid shitposting. I too hate SJWs for the fact that they make my political party look like a joke. "Huuur duur, muh white guys"

It's difficult to ban shitposting though, when the line between shitposting and actual posting is blured when half the posts are mixed in with cuck, degeneracy, or (())

Hello friend,

I don't know if you saw any of the previous posts I made in the other threads, as they are not in the live archives anymore. Here is a link to some of them: http://desuarchive.org/qa/search/tripcode/Co7ArOTpLQ/start/2016-12-20/order/asc/

Please also see posts starting 2016-12-23 for a direct response to you, which you probably did not see because it fell off the archive already.

If you need or want actual logs of the team channel, I can provide them to you via IRC! I don't know if anyone else on the moderation team at the moment wants to stick their neck out, right now, or make waves, though the predominant opinion people have offered on the topic is ":("

Long story short, though, I asked people's opinions on the entire situation on the day things happened. Nobody said anything in response. If the "official position" of the team was to sit back and let users do whatever they wanted, that could have been told to me at that time by anyone in the channel. However, since 2004, the policy was always "no coordinated action or real-life activism allowed", especially ones where the internet leaks into the real world.

Frankly, the attitude that "nobody can talk about the site" makes users frustrated that their opinions are being ignored, and the attitude that "nobody can do anything of real consequence without asking permission from everyone else first" makes it hard to effectively take swift action in response to evolving situations on the boards, especially when there is literally nobody else awake.

The fact of the matter is, overwhelming experience has taught us that the troublemaker part of the userbase will try to find excuses for all of their bad behavior, and moderators need the latitude to effectively and publicly deal with this bad behavior.

Anyway, if you want to read those posts, I have said many things already. I am available on IRC and you are welcome to contact me at any time if you wish for further clarification.

Thank you!

Basically the "raid" was about a fire that happened in a warehouse. People were living there illegally, ignoring the firecode, and nearly 40 fucking people burned to death because they couldn't follow the fire code.
Now it turns out these places are all over the country, and /pol/ started reporting the locations of them to the fire marshals in those areas. Note that no fucking names were posted, just the locations of the warehouses that people illegally lived inside of, posting an address of a building that is supposed to be vacant is not doxxing.

A mod started deleting these threads. And he warned someone saying "Fire safety threads are not about saving lives, they are about oppressing marginalized people and using the horrible system in place to further oppress the LGBT community"

I'm not fucking kidding.

As someone who's known moot for twelve years: the site was never profitable. It barely stayed afloat. You guys had him brought into court on multiple occasions, he never could afford to pay anyone associated with the site (though he'd originally said it'd be nice, the site never made enough money to actually provide even himself with material net gains, so the most he could manage after keeping the lights on was a care package from time to time to the guy who tinkered with the codebase)
>>
>>924745
I know the history.
Just saying though, if it were that much of a loser why did it take him 10+ years to sell it?
That's a long time for a small business to run red ink. Either way, it say something about the reality of the situation.
>>
>>924761
Because moot wasn't running it to make money.
>>
>>924657
Basically /pol/ discovered the DIY show scene. This is essentially when people make grassroots concerts for underground bands at properties that aren't checked for their ability to safely host events.

These shows are often hosted at certain properties where they intentionally avoid being authorized by fire marshals for public safety because they would otherwise be shut down.

What /pol/ essentially did was research a huge wall of known locations where these events take place and encouraged /anons to "tattle" on them by getting the local fire marshals to shut them down.

/pol/'s interest in doing it was specifically to fuck with liberals, but they reveled in the fact that it wasn't technically raiding or illegal. In fact, from a neutral standpoint they were protecting people from potential harm.

While it is a form of "activism" or collective board activity, which moot and the mods considered to be raiding, the mod did not handle the situation very well.

Instead of making a post to claim that even if it was legal it was still a form of raid, he instead gave warning notes in his bans to explain to /pol/ that he was removing it because it was being done to harass the lbgt community.

This exposure of an agenda ended up with him getting kicked from the mod team.
>>
>>924298
this post has a fuckton of (You)s mane

>>924715
Your point being? The fact is these places were still violating the fire code, which endangers their lives and the lives of everyone in ever neighboring building.

Which didn't gain traction, because it tried to divorce the BBS aspect, and thus the discussion, from the image macro / meme remixing aspect.

The fundamental crux of the issue is that people used to sit there browsing the site all day with Photoshop open on their machine, and they would create new images to accompany the text posts they made; to augment, not replace interaction on 4chan. canvas tried to promote the images for the sake of the images, and without any larger context it wasn't going very far.

Also, 4chan users are paranoid about having personal information mined, and the idea of "this site is potentially a day job for moot!" brought with it the idea that maybe he would be beholden to third parties, corporate overlords, or the feds, and sat there calling him a faggot all day while he tried to make something.

The fact is that 4chan got lucky because it was the right thing in the right place at the right time.

The threads are still deleted because "board activities" have a blanket ban.

moot banned raiding because raiding often entailed illegal activities. Encouraging DDOS attacks and such. This was obviously to keep the site from being shut down.

However, after chanology moot determined that activism or board activities that encourage a group effort accomplish some real life task were no longer allowed.

His reasoning, according to the finale Q&A was that the activities tended to consume the entire board and upset the boards content. It also encouraged people to make offtopic threads to try and recruit people on other boards.

This was why he stopped GG even though that was nothing more than a activist movement.

I think moots fear was that 4chan's willingness to combine forces would make it too powerful for him to protect. The power in numbers meme became too real.

For some of us it was a mix of both.
Obviously I don't give a shit if those commie leftists ignoring the fire codes burned to death, but I cared about brave firefighters dying trying to save entitled faggots who decided they were above the fire code.
I cared about people in the buildings next to the DIY buildings that could burn to death because of their ignorance/arrogance.

These laws exist to fucking protect everyone, and ignoring them endangers fucking everyone
>>
>>924866
No one cares about your epic fire code shit. Concern trolling got old in the 00's and this is only witty if you're 14.
>>

In other words, Moot found himself powerless to contain Kek and so he jumped ship?
I don't blame him one bit.

Not kek, kek is some weird meme magic shit.

What I mean is that 4chan has this uncanny ability to get a large amount of people to accomplish a task rather quickly.

We're not anyone's personal army, but we can easily be one AND get the job done efficiently.

That sort of spontaneous power spurred by everyone collectively wanting to do something because they're bored is terrifying.
>>
>>924968
Does that make it okay for them to have to risk their lives because some entitled hipster cannot follow the law?
It's their jobs to save people, but by not following fire codes these people were putting absolutely everyone at risk. Just a reminder that nearly 40 fucking people would not have burned to death if they just followed the fire code

I don't care about them, however here's a fact you seem to not be aware of. FIRE SPREADS. They don't have the fucking right to risk the lives of everyone in every neighboring building.

And they are risking their lives if they have to go into the fire to save survivors.

So what we learned from Hiro today
>He said he doesn't know why (You) was removed>>923710
This clearly shows that Hiro is so fucking lazy and incompetent that he lets some other mod have free reign of the whole site, letting them decide what they want to even if it upsets many fucking users.
>He only cares about the opinions of people who bought a 4chan pass
He's made voting on how you feel about the change only viable for 4chan pass owners, basically letting the incredibly small minority of people who gave him money decide how things should go, and trying to encourage more people to buy passes so they can vote as well.
>He called strawpoll untrustworthy and when people responded by bringing up that Hiro is not trustworthy because of his known history of being a jew and destroying websites he stopped replying

Anyone who actually likes this fucking greedy retard as admin just loves being fucked in the ass

How has it been? It has been a painful ride. But I don't want it to stop, I just want it to hurt less. The death of two close family members, and... other very painful events, have made this the worst year I've ever had. I thought it couldn't get worse than 2015, but I was wrong. Though events she was involved in brought pain as well, I don't know what I would have done without her. It's real when it hurts.

>The underlying theory of the Political Compass is that political ideology may be better measured along two separate and independent axes. The Economic (Left–Right) axis measures one's opinion of how the economy should be run: "left" is defined as the desire for the economy to be run by a cooperative collective agency (which can mean the state, but can also mean a network of communes), while "right" is defined as the desire for the economy to be left to the devices of competing individuals and organizations

The person you're replying to is not from /pol/ They're some sort of facebook-infused moron who bought the "nu spectrum" meme that doesn't use a standard political compass of left-right but instead replaces all positions on social policy with a measurement of the "open-ness" of the domestic market. It's completely stupid. You can be a right wing authoritarian just as much as you can be a right wing libertarian, /pol/ understands this perfectly well, thus why the person you're replying to is not from there.

Hiroyuki isn't going to take you back no matter how much you grovel man. You've done your dash by using your mod powers to push your agenda. You did not just delete safety squad threads, but there were also many instances of you apparently banning posters for rules they did not break because they had defeated an argument made by an invader from eight chan. You made no attempt to remove posts or ban posters responsible for cuck porn spam, you made no attempt to remove posts or ban posters who made blatant raid spam threads from off-site imageboards such as marxism general etc. You directly facilitated the decline of discourse on the board (as hilarious as this may be, /pol/ actually managed to get WORSE after your influence, something I never thought possible) and you spurred a brief "/poll/ leakage" event whereby people would spam other boards with evidence of your collusion with off-site raid groups to undermine the confidence of the site in the moderator's capability to do their jobs. You had and have no place on this site, let alone as a moderator. Please fuck off and kill yourself soon.

Just gotta say, reading all this mod drama is really trippy considering I used to participate in a general on /vg/ that got transparently harassed for months on end by a rogue janitor who'd delete on-topic, quality posts and nuke entire IPs daily, until it pretty much everyone got frustrated and left, causing it to devolve into little but image reposts.

You're telling me mods actually do stuff? And are held to standards about that stuff?

That's not what happened at all. You know how you said on-topic posts were getting deleted by a rogue janitor on your thread? What this guy did to /pol/ was like that except across the whole board. Plus bans. Safety squads are arguably justifiable but the guy was abusing his power very actively, and making no attempt whatsoever to delete actual rule-violating content or clear off-site raid threads from his little clubhouse on handicapchan
