I made a long ass post and accidentally dealeted it, so I'll keep this one short.

The EMdrive generates a region of negative energy inside the cone, with the ring of EM fields generating a positive net force perpendicular to the ring. This is literally the typical sci-fi propulsion method. Whenever you see ships with glowing rings as sublight exhausts, that's exactly what an EMdrive is.

Now, the reason why we can develop a warp drive from this, is because we didn't know how to generate regions of negative energy before. One of the requirements of the Alcubierre drive to work, is regions of negative energy. Previously though impossible to produce, people imagined "exotic matter" as generating fields of negative energy. Now that we know how to generate regions of negative energy, we can satisfy the equation and make a REAL WORKING warp drive.

The concept of an EmDrive engine is relatively simple. It provides thrust to a spacecraft by bouncing microwaves around in a closed container.

Solar energy provides the electricity to power the microwaves, which means that no propellant is needed.

However this means very little in the space community, it needs to be peer reviewed and taken seriously before any progress can be made.

It could take years if not a decade. Sorry fellas.

Emdrive and warpdrive aren't the same thing. Emdrive has been tested (in a vacuum - there were doubts that it would work in a vacuum) and encouraging results were found. Now, it needs to be tested in space and at higher energy levels. Currently, 2500 watts of electricity provides provides about .016 pounds foot of thrust. A measurable but small amount.

Chinese scientists have claimed similar results, so the experiment can be said to have been replicated.

Warp drive/fields is being experimented with but I don't think there have been tangible results observed yet. Again, this is being done by NASA. Look up Alcubierre on google or wiki. Same for Emdrive, wiki has an article.

It's all rather exciting, don't you think?
