So one thing feminists always note in society is the lack of success of women attaining high paid positions, despite consistently out performing guys at all levels of education. What is the reason for this? Well I thought I could offer just some personal observations.

A bit about me, I am a PHD in Earth Sciences, I teach at a pretty highly rated British University. I recieved my PHD in 2007, was a civil servant til 2010 then came back as a lecturer. Last September I was made head of 1st and 2nd year students (4 year course). I also conduct lab classes for 2 different courses.

Ok let me describe the students I teach first.

>Mostly middle class
>mostly white and from UK
>50/50 male female

Here are 10 things I have noted about female students compared to male students.

>1: They are better students
They really are, they generally behave more mature in classes. They attend classes (especially early ones) way more often than the guys. They also make more of an effort to study in an organised way. This isn't universally true but a general trend.

Cont....
>>
>>42042097

>2: Due to this they have a completely different approach to education compared to most men.

Here is the best way I can describe it. My office is always open to anyone most of the day if I am in. I will help anyone with anything. Guys will come round and talk about what they want to learn or concepts they do not understand. I will help them as much as I can. I have sometimes had students stay and talk to me for 30 mins on specifics they simply find interesting.

Now the women.

They basically all ask the same question in a roundabout way.

The question is always

>"What do I have to do to get an A?"

Thats it, I graded an essay, it gets a B, girl comes to speak to me "what areas should I improve upon to get a better grade?" "How many sources would an A quality essay be expected to have?" "what are they key areas that mineral identification is graded upon".

I mean I guess they are just working the system but it often make me question if they are actually learning as intended or simply mastering key areas. Which leads me too....
>>
>>42042097

>3: A fair few of my straight A female students are retarded.

Its true, on paper they look like a model student. But often it ends up regurgitating information onto a paper whilst completely missing the wider scope of what is being taught.

E.g.

>I am giving a lecture on basic geology of the solar system
>mention potential mining resources in future
>a female student of mine who had gotten an A in every single test, paper and lab sticks her hand up
>"so like could we find oil on the moon?"
>..................
>2nd year earth science, she got an A for her essay on hydrocarbon formation too..........

When I was starting my CS degree there were tons of tumblrina girls around

Only ONE made it to the third year and by that point she was memorizing entire algorithms to get through exams.

I'm sure that whoever hired her (girls in IT is a big thing in poland now) as a programmer must be positively ecstatic about the quality of her work now lel

>>42042097

>4: And then they all give up when it comes to honours years.

The whole department gets a memo every year making sure we try and keep as many female students as we can and to strongly encourage them to stay.

Want to know why?

Honours years involve a lot of out door geological surveying. Several 2-4 week trips in variable weather is required. This seems to really put of a lot of girls. (they'd rather drink and party with a psychology degree than spend 4 weeks in Arran learning). It also means you will have 35 hours of classes a week, this has been described as "a complete piss take". By one girl who completed all the paper work and signed up and started honours years before switching to a more relaxed 14 hour a week human-geography degree.

I have literally told some students of mine that if they sit it out for 2 years they can have 30-40K a year graduate jobs but they always seem to prefer the lighter work week for the short term.
>>
>>42042097

>5: This does not apply if the girl is foreign.

Had this Indian girl studying once, she was brilliant. Was debating changing to pursue a French course. I said she should stick with it, she was genuinely an excellent student. Her dad said he was pulling funding if she didn't change. She works for a mining company in Indian no and makes a good wage. Her dad is a role model of how to educate a kid.

Mechanical Engineering major here. of the 10% of women in this major, not even 10% have the slightest fucking clue what they're doing. They do exactly as you see, regurgitate information without knowing a damn thing. I've had to show women how to work out the simplest statics problems there could be, stuff so easy you don't by any means need to be an engineer to do it, despite the fact that they got an A in the class while I failed it and had to take it twice. It really does blow me away how their minds work. Very obviously different from men most of the time.
>>
>>42042097

>6: 90% are incapable of delivering a public speech.

As part of the course you have to research a topic and deliver a 15-20 minute lecture to the rest of the students.

Girls always seem to seize up, Um and ah constantly. The word 'like' is inserted into every sentence and they just seem nervous all round.

I have no idea why, these girls are the same as the guys on my course socially. And believe me they all drink in socials together and have pretty much all hooked up lol. Yet for some reason the girls always seem to fail to perform here.

Same bloody experience, unable to think outside the box, they still get better grades

fuck the university system, it's all about sucking the lecturer's dick and giving cookie cut out answers
>>
>>42042097

>7: Mickey Mouse student politics is like fucking crack for women.

Seriously, they love this shit.

Student representative councils, class reps, political societies. They love this shit.

This can consume an insane amount of time. It seems insane but the department has literally had to forbid giving out leaflets, flash protests and people chasing votes for a mid term disabilities office re-election.

On a related note my university has 3 feminist officers and 2 equality officers on the student council. They do a great job Swedening up the whole place.

They love feminism but seem to have a hard time agreeing on what it is, the original feminist society has now splintered into 3, they all hate each other (splitters!).

It is often absurd the amount of time that some students will go to debate on something like "why is the female nipple demonized and the double standard of nudity".

Often by the time serious study for a degree is required these girls real degree has become political debating and attending rallies/protests.

If you are in exploration and paid on commision one contract can get you £100K if you are lucky.

>8: social media addiction.

I mean guys are pretty bad for this too, but at least most of them can stash the phone in the pocket for 60 mins and listen.

Most girls will be constantly on fb, imgur, reddit, 4chan (seriously), or snapchatting and texting.

Girl sending risque snapchats from back row, I may not be calling you out on it but yeah, I can see you. They can't go 5 fucking minutes without looking at their phones screen.

I remember being on a field trip on a very remote part of Scotland with no phone signal. I swear to fuck they went into cold turkey.

But I mean my policy is if your paying (or tax payers are paying) for you to be in uni and you don't wanna listen then fine, don't listen. I just leave them too it.

>9: they never have a career plan.

I know girls who graduate with 1.1 and then go to work in a coffee shop round the corner. Why? 2 reasons. 1 is they enjoy the uni social life and friends so often just want a laid back career to continue the same lifestyle. The 2nd is they genuinely don't think. I know girls who are good students but in their final year they just never thought to send off a cv to anyone or apply to any graduate scheme. Then they seem clueless what to do now they graduated.

Lastly, if a job involves moving to North Dakota, or Sweden or the aussie outback. This seems to put off all women, they want to employ women, they really do, they send recruiters to our graduate fair every year, but they just are not interested. These are well paid jobs too.

Solution: adapt evaluation to test wide scope knowledge.

I go to the best uni in Belgium and exams mostly consists of 20% knowledge reproduction and 50% application of learned skills and 30% questions that test deep understanding of the problems in the field.

Seems like the problems isn't the students, but how they are evaluated.
>>
>>42042097

>10: If a women graduates with honours and gets into the industry she is set for life.

If you are a female geologist and get into an oil or mining company you are set for life. They want to show they are diverse but simply don't get a diverse enough pool of applicants. If you are a qualified woman whos willing to work they will make you a manager within 5-10 years just to show they are a forward company. It really annoys me to see so many of my students pass up on this opportunity in favour of easier degrees or just cut and run when any out door or physical work may be involved.

It's not a glass ceiling, its a heavy glass door they mostly can't be fucked to open.

>>
>>42042398
this is why university degrees are worthless. you're selecting obedient students with good memories not those who actually try to understand the whole subject because they want to understand it. clearly more work needs to be done to make more complex assessments that cannot be simply tick and flicked.

when i went to university, it was forbidden to use references outside of the provided study material. because the point was to agree completely with the lecturer. if you disagreed with the massive ego of the lecturer, you were failed. because the spent a lot of time convincing themselves that paper they wrote to get their PhD was right and incontrovertibly true and insightful.
>mountains of disconfirming evidence ignored.

I think what needs to happen, and bear with me here, is to completely dissociate under graduate programs from post graduate programs and research. degrees cost too much, lecturers are biased towards their own field and would rather tick and flick so they can go back to doing their payed research instead of this cushy tenured side job.
>>
>>42043105
That's where a good uni draws the line though.

It might sound reductionist bit I have studied at three unis now and the difference in quality really comes down to evaluation. Make sure the students cannot get good grades without actively working and thinking critically with the course material.

I'd also like to add that makes will likely fail more too when you adjust the evaluation like this.

You really see the grade average drop when a course requires good all round understanding instead memorization.

I have to admit that I sometimes pick courses which are more memorization orientated to increase my average. I don't overdo that though, still need to be able to provide useful service to my employer.

I understand you completely. Women are much better students-- in all the superficial ways. They are neat; organized; agreeable; they have a strong work ethic and desire for academic achievement.

They are also dumb as fuck and miss the point entirely.

I forgot to wish her a happy birthday as well, I was going to but after that it didn't seem like a good idea. One of those moments that flies out of the blue and makes you question your entire existence.

If I had to guess, I'd say you teach at Glasgow or Edinburgh uni. I know, having studied Earth Science last year, that Glasgow had a new course coordinator that year. But I think you teach at Edinburgh because you said "quite highly rated" and the only Scottish uni that could potentially qualify for such a title is Edinburgh.

Chemist here. The women are just as talented as the guys but due to the fact that they are about 5% of our research staff the slugs were selected out long ago.

Women can perform just as well as men but for the most part they can live their lives on permanent easymode so they don't bother doing anything remotely difficult.

What can guys do to exploit what women do in education

Most guys seem concerned with learning the actual material rather than be exam babies. How can they use the tactics females use to up their education results?
