We haven't had one of these threads in a long time.

Which and why?

Depends on the trade, you can easily start out around $20/hr with most trades, if youre smart you look for a respectable union in your field and join it. Then you can make anywhere from $35-50/hr. Im a assembly line worker for Ford who is somewhat trained with welding also, my pay right now is pretty nice for what I do, but I would jump right into welding probably if this shit went bad. Skilled trade workers in the plant make about $50/hr and overtime after a 10hr day making $75/hr.

College only if you want to do something that will actually get you work, or if you dont mind the debt.

But even lawyers right now are struggling
>>

The legal profession isn't really as bad as the numbers would suggest. Law schools are definitely churning out too many graduates, but the thing is that most of them are lazy, incompetent, have never done anything but go to school, and they know nothing and care less about the actual practice of law. If you are actually serious about practicing law, are willing to work really fucking hard to learn how to practice law (law school doesn't actually teach this, any lawyer will tell you that), and don't feel like some entitled jack off, then you should do fine in this profession.

The problem is that the BA has become virtually useless. Too many people are getting their degrees in English, philosophy, sociology, whatever and realizing that they cant get a job, so they apply to law school. These people may have the numbers to get accepted, but they don't actually care about becoming lawyers. These are the ones who struggle when they graduate.

Payed my way through college via an adult learning course to learn a trade.
Working as a welder now and no debnts.
Loving it.

I laugh when uni people have thousands in student debt because they got a masters in womens rights or some shit and work in costa coffee or whatever.

College, but do something useful. If you go do a trade prepare for doing the exact same thing every single day of the rest of your life.

If you dont try to advance yourself sure. Same thing can be said even if you goto college.

I dropped out of HS when I was 17 to go to trade school. Im a machinist at boeing now.
>>
>trade school
a welder could read all the works of proust, and would still be look down upon
>>
>>41849376
It depends on the person. Some people waste their time in HS or College. It is sometimes better for certain people who are, lost, not bright or don't want to get any sort of diploma.

Trade or College depends on the person.

All depends on where you live. I live near the gulf coast, so the big thing here is oil and plants are in desperate need for plant operators because not only is the industry growing, but theres about to be a huge wave of baby boomers retiring

Do some research and talk to your family or friends who have blue collar jobs

thats not true for everyone. I have a "prestige" job and i look down more on a lot of my "peers" than i do someone who is skilled at a trade. shit i fixed my dishwasher and felt like Tim "the tool man" Taylor. Fucking a, plumbing is hard. i watched like 2 hours of DIY videos to learn how to do what should have taken me 30 min. And electric work? I'm not touching that shit. I got a ton of respect for anyone who knows how to do that.

Its true boeing is desperate for apprentices right now because everyone just HAS to go to college. The old guard is retiring and there arent new people to replace them.
>>
>>41849376
Trade and College are both viable. It depends on which subject, as usual--ie, the ones that are always in need.

I am currently taking as many cert courses through the army as I can and taking the exams by paying out of pocket and going to an exam center. How fucked am I?
>>
>>41850488

Some people would and are probably the ones with a lifetime of debnt.

It never made sense to me why someone would choose to master a subject that ain't relevent in the real world. And when they can't find a job in Medieval Cultural studies, Theosophy or Women's Rights they become bitter towards others who have a basic grasp on the real world and find employment doing so.

College if STEM/law/medicine
