Here is the argument against gay marriage. State sanctioned marriage is not a right but an entitlement given in exchange for a possible service in the form of producing new tax payers(children). Ask yourself why the state encourages marriage. Because more humans is good for the economy, low population growth prevents demographic problems that are occurring in other nations as large portions of the working population retire or get too old to work. All more citizens means more tax revenue and soldiers so it is in a nation states interest to have a large but stable population.

Now the way we go about encouraging this is too round about for my taste. Rather than giving tax breaks for marriage we should only give them for the number of underage dependents. Adopted children count a little, your own children count more. We want to maintain the family structure and encourage people to reproduce. Just giving tax breaks for marriage allows freeloaders who married but don't plan of having kids to benefit from a system that gets nothing back from them.

Gays can and have always been able to get a private religious marriage without no standing in the eyes of the state just like everybody else. I know people who did that just because they hate the fucking government and disagree with state sanctioned marriage.

The way to solve this problem is by eliminating the state sanctioning and giving of tax breaks for marriage, instead you only get tax breaks for producing viable offspring and raising them. You also get less tax breaks for adopted children, step-children, and dependents not related to you by blood.

I'd prefer to discourage adoption since the kids tend to do worse as adults than those kept by their parents even when the adopted parents are in a higher income bracket.

Adoption is markedly inferior to normal reproduction and raising of blood offspring in biological terms. Hence why you should still get some tax breaks but not as much as for raising blood offspring. They aren't bad, they’re just not as good and I would prefer to encourage the system of child rearing I find gets better results and responds more directly toward selective pressures in the environment which is necessary for the long term survival of a genetic line.
