It's chronological and very easy to read.

Some of the poetic eddas are just random alignments, have no chronological order and no structure plus hard translations so they could be missing some parts. Other easier authors/translators fill in the missing parts to the best of their ability while "advanced" versions let you fill it in thinking you have knowledge of icelandic/kennings and all of that, or think you are a student using it for scholarly reasons.

The tree was a religious symbol of Europeans, the spear as far as I can remember has no significance in the hebrew books, (any of the 3 hebrew religions) and the hanging part I always considered as a gallows, since Odin himself is lord of the gallows and could speak to a man who was hanged by the neck and already dead. He could reanimate them and talk to them. So I figured he hung himself by the neck from yggdrasil and stabbed himself with a spear, not dangled by his ankles or anything like that.

Same here. Agnostic (i'm Romanian) and i don't know what pagan religion to pick.I fell close to roman paganism(since romanians claim to be descendants of romans), do you think it will be a good choice?

Search wikipedia for norse mithology, and then read the sources. If they were realeased later than 1900 don't bother with them, they're full of shit.
