European/Russian Art thread.
Moderns need not apply.
You can post living artists obviously, just post good ones please.
Andrew Wyeth, one of the best 20th century painters.
Ernest Meissonier. One of the greatest genre painters ever.
Why is Russian art a separate category?
Based Michelangelo. The greatest Artist of all time. Only a man blessed by God Himself could be capable of such majestic works.
And now for something a little more contemporary. Behold Picasshole!
The sad thing about Picasso is, if you look at the sketches he did in his youth, you can see he could have become a talented traditional artist.
Instead he rode the wave of modernism.
Fucking hell, it's so grotesque. I can only feel repulsion when I see it. Who can enjoy the broken shapes and horrible colouring that reminds me of feverish nightmares? Why do people like disharmony and ugliness?
Modern Art is a giant scam. It allows try hard wanna be intellectuals to amsturbate over their own cleverness while pointing that finger at any Pleb who has the gall to point out that the Emperor has no clothes.
Another sign of the collapse of Western Culture
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Paintings The entire series of "Black Paintings" by Francisco Goya is quite amazing. He painted these on the walls of his home for himself, a rather horrifying thought.
It's already (early) Baroque. But in essence you are right.
A question for those with more knowledge of painting: what country could be seen as "best" when it comes to painting? Who perfected the art of oil painting as we discuss here?
Personally I would say that Italians have perfected sculpture and they are definitely a strong contender for painting as well, in my opinion.
Well, I personally like his work, because it's both surrealist and modern, and doesn't look like some scribbles like most modern art. Kind of shows what modern art could be if artists actually put some effort into their work instead of just circlejerking.
Modern art is bullshit, as an art student i hate it, thats why im quitting art school, its all a bunch of hippy/new age fags who think alliens invented humans and satan is good. Well its only one guy like that in my class, but everyone else thinks he's smart and they actually believe him, its just a bunch of faggots into tumblr art.
How modern is too modern?
John Constable makes me feel things
Italy boast Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Donatello, Raphael - to name a few. All legendary painters. I'd say the Italians were the best in the world at the arts thanks largely to the influence of the Catholic Church.
Agreed. Also, let's add some music to honor the Italian nation.
TFW you will never have a red guard waifu
Three stages of Communism
Exactly what i meant, i tell everyone i dont want to be called an artist or associate with them. Realism and what the guy in with the dragon did is considered "unimaginative" "uncreative" e.t.c. the teachers view people who like realism as idiots who cant think "openly" sad...
Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan!
O sultan, Turkish devil and damned devil's kith and kin, secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight are you, that can't slay a hedgehog with your naked arse? The devil excretes, and your army eats. You will not, you son of a bitch, make subjects of Christian sons; we've no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck your mother.
You Babylonian scullion, Macedonian wheelwright, brewer of Jerusalem, goat-fucker of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater and Lesser Egypt, pig of Armenia, Podolian thief, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, an idiot before God, grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow, screw your own mother!
So the Zaporozhians declare, you lowlife. You won't even be herding pigs for the Christians. Now we'll conclude, for we don't know the date and don't own a calendar; the moon's in the sky, the year with the Lord, the day's the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our arse!
Koshovyi Otaman Ivan Sirko, with the whole Zaporozhian Host.
Much of his black and white is superior imo.
As I said modernism is an ideology, you can be a contemporary artist and work within traditional aesthetics.
it's too bad that you limit yourself
but still, Caravaggio is one of my all time favorites
here's a little more beautiful rage fuel for you
Europe and Russia should be nuked
Shit nations full of cowards and sheep. The mduskins would do us a favor if they clean the land of cowardly genes before we go there to take it back.
Long live America!
maybe I can melt your icy hearts, beauty is timeless
What a world we live in where professional scribblers like Pollock are universally known yet if you ask people if they have ever heard of Ferri, they'd stare at you blankly and say "Who?"
repin is god
Im a big biased towards the French I have to admit. Like you say though many countries had a wealth of incredible literature. Ancient Greece is particularly astonishing just given the quantity of it from so long ago, and it's continued relevance. Homer and the later playwrights, particularly Sophocles, are world's ahead of anything else from that time
Hitler's favorite painting.
Painted the year he was born.
>every napoleonic genre painting ever.
Constable was a hero
I'm really enjoying this thread bros, we need to have more culture threads
What is your opinion on some video game concept art? Is it acceptable or not because >le mountain dew dorito lel
I really like this pic for example, even though skyrim was a pretty shit game overall
Thread needs more Polish art.
Bouguereau is shocked by you lack of white swag
It bothers me that there won't be nearly as many paintings of this caliber in the next century. Modern art is garbage and there photos- There won't be many more like the ones in this thread.
one more, then I should probably get back to work...
>I know you'll all hate me for this but I love Matisse
Beksinski being less grotesque than usual. Pretty awesome ethereal atmosphere.
Some Modern art is amazing. check out Lorenzo Quinn or Richard MacDonald, you ungrateful bastards. Art culture is a humongous business around circles of people that have money.
>sources: richfag here.
How can you say there are no good artists left?
You are clearly uneducated in this area / haven't researched enough, which means you are ignorant.
I like this stuff. Here, have a Tsar.
A Sketch I did in university. Yeah I was on beksinski hype.
Have some Richard MacDonald
>“Modern man thinks he loses something – time – when he does not do things quickly; yet he does not know what to do with the time he gains – except kill it”.
Art school is typically to teach the various techniques, classically pen and ink or paint on canvass sort of thing no? What you do with that is up to you.
All art is political, maybe you should enroll in polisci?
Not sure of artist here.
I love how it shows the modern degeneracy. Small russain village school is on this picture, kids 11-15 years of age are solving this task with no pens and paper, just in mind. It shows how schools used to teach TO THINK, and not to pass fucking tests. I like that boy that scratches his head, his branis are fucking grinding so hard that his eyes glow. That picture gives me many feels. Amazing shit.
>Art school is typically to teach the various techniques
Lol if you're lucky. Many dont even bother now. You'll be stuck in a room with a lefty intellectual giving you theory.
That one fat senator in his seat not giving a shit.
Well shiat, all you can do is laugh then.
Whilst the art of ancient Egypt was very simplistic, in technique, it is quite beautiful.
For those interested in art and how it has changed throughout history and in different cultures I could actually recommend reading "Decline of the West" by Oswald Spengler.
It is quite heavy reading and not entirely focused on art, but large parts of it are dedicated to comparing art from different periods in different cultures and see similarities/differences.
One example is how depth and infinity are concepts that have defined the modern, western civilization. In paintings this is quite easy to see when the main object often isn't what you can see or what is happening.
This specific painting is a good example. The man in the foreground is in many ways just a person representing the observer: you.
The main objective is the wast landscape of fog and mountains. Then there's the horizon and the sky. Truly infinite in it's way.
Friederich does that, personally this is his greatest painting.
According to Spengler there is nothing that awakens such longing in western men as looking for the horizon. Yearning for infinity is what defines our entire civilization and has done so for almost a thousand years now.
good question. It is 0:30 so I am a little tired.
I try to explain myself.
Yes the material is cold but that just intesivies the bases feeling. Which is depressing (especially the snadclockdude). And one of the major problems of modern art ist that it is almost allways showing in my opinion how very depressing the world is.
I don't need art to do that for me. I know the world is a total fubar place all for itself.
So I see the skill of the artist but I dislike his message.
Tell that to the current generation of limp-wristed Western pricks who are either in their teens or early 20s, attending university, and are defined by nothing more than political correctness.
Don't be too pessimistic. New role models will arise and many of them will see and turn around.
