The dam was going to fail. The officials made all the right decisions, from opening the dams during the flooding (August 29th 2am), doubling the outflow(August 29 9am). Plus whatever the construction crew did that went there in the middle of the flood at around 3pm. Whatever they did to increase from 8000 cfs at Addicks to 10000 the 30th also helped it get below the spillway faster, maybe it was starting to deteriorate.

This just means that any water being released is going through a gate, not a spillway or over the wall. Only "controlled" release.

There's still a tiny chance the dam could fail from erosion, but that chance is much lower now that the water is going through the channels they repaired in 2009. Plus even if it does fail now most areas still have madatory evacuation orders that are in their pathway.

Wrong, it was going over a small section on the northern spillway that has a concrete casing.

The Cali dam also had it going over a concrete spillway, but the concrete broke and caused all sorts of erosion.

The only worry was water pooling well to the south of the spillway where it is just dirt and causing damage to the dam, but that didn't happen, nor did the worries of it flowing south to the already maxed out Bayou system that was getting the 16,000 CFS from the gates.

Set up a level spot on the roof for the little genni. Don't have to worry about niggers or running cords threw flood waters. The little whisper Honda's have no problems getting wet, just put some painters tape on the sockets your not using and wrap any cord connections f you using multiple cords with electrical tape.
Might also be a good idea if you have any 12v batteries (car, deep cell, Marine or any) to buy a decent power inverter and a 12v charger that you can run while you have the genni on. If your going to be running the genni anyways might as well be creating an alternative power source at the same time.
