They may become politicized if they get a taste of real poverty. That has a way of focussing the mind.

I suspect that may happen in their lifetime, but probably not in the next decade or so.

Life is good enough that there isn't a huge need to concern themselves with the trajectory of society. It's only a small group that pays attention to the past and contemplates the future.

Beyond just apathy and contented inertia, they have been actively socialized in a way that will be pretty counterproductive.

Humans DO NOT LEARN through words. We learn through EXPERIENCES. Anyone who's been around children will know they do not listen or care about adult words. Tell kids not to do something they will most likely try to do it. It is only through the experience of doing and then being punished that they learn. This is how any human learns. You do not understand fire=hot until you try to get close and burn yourself.

This doesn't mean violently beat your kids and it doesn't mean don't touch them at all. Moderation in everything is key.

Does anyone work a regular job and own/manage a small (3-5 acre) property on the side? I'm trying to get a feel for how realistic it would be to try to own a goat or two, a handful of chickens, dig my own well + filter, run some solar panels and wind turbines to a battery in order to power my electronics, grow vegetables, and tend some fruit trees/berry bushes

I do the best I can with what little yard I have. My advice is to plant lots of fruit and nut trees. Relatively little hassle compared to vegetables crops.
