Long hiatus from folding designing and posting /po/, need some ideas to get the juices flowing.
Pic related, doodle I just made.
>>553146
What a shitty dragon.
It's nice to see you again.
I love it! Did you make it out of a triangle?
>try to go to /pol/
>come to a peaceful board and look at peoples cool suggestions
What can we suggest?
>>553217
Welcome! And you can suggest anything you want! Preferably nothing too hard. I don't want to disappoint when I can't deliver
>>553220
Would you be willing to make weird video game space ships? Not super hard even.
>>553222
Post a picso I can see how complex it is
>>553227
Hey sorry kinda got distracted for a day or two there. I'll some images, but in hindsight I was a little drunk when I asked and I'm not sure how interested you will be in these. The original designs are overly complex and the non overly complex ones (while I like them a lot) aren't really recognizable as a specific ship from so and so world. I'll grab some screens though if still interested.
>>553146
Hmm. Mushrooms? Weird suggestion I know, I just like the look of mushrooms.
Here is the finished manta ray
>>553322
And the underside
>>553372
>can't tell if that comment is for the image or for the post number
>>553489
i was commenting the origami
>>553490
Lmao thanks. A lot of dub seekers on this board never too careful.
Here are some photodiagrams for my manta ray! Let me know if you get stuck anywhere!
>>553609
And don't forget the rest of my diagrams are also up on my Google drive https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1vYEdIPwkWcRDUxdDNZZml2RVE
>>553610
Sorry wrong account that one is missing a few https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_nwLkHnwNB-V0dtbDVsaF90ME0
>>553322
crease pattern? looks dope, I've been looking for a solid manta ray design
>>553837
Sorry, no crease pattern, only the photodiagrams
Hey guys, here's a long promised model, a photodiagram of my crab design. I made a few adjustments recently and am finally pretty happy with the results
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_nwLkHnwNB-RFY3Q05BZDJxeWc/view?usp=sharing
>>554357
nice one anon, you're getting better ! Do you intend to publish your models ?
>>554361
Not really, though I'd like to compile all my diagrams into one big pdf like a book. I like offering my designs freely.
Speaking of which, here is my lastest, a super simple firefly design.
>>554444
Nice home-made sandwich paper, and nice model too!
It doesn't look too hard indeed.
>>554444
>I like offering my designs freely.
well i think that's not a problem. You can probably publish your model in some magazine and still distribute them as you want.
Two new models for you guys today! First is an Octopus
>>555471
Close up
>>555472
Next is this Frog
>>555473
Underside. Picture doesn't do it justice
Wow!
What kind of papers do you guys use to make these?
I'm an amateur designer and I only have two finished models of my own design, do you have any tips for me?
>>555504
Keep trying, also study other designers' CPs.
>>555475
Good wow?
>>555480
Lol the top holes are eye cavities like the ones on my duck and frog shown. The siphon is just underneath.
The model is really simple, from a blintzed frog base. You need really thin paper i made one sided tissue foil
>>555487
I make tissue foil. Tissue paper aluminum foil painter's tape paint brush and watered down Elmer's glue
>>555504
I'm interested in seeing them! And don't worry, we're in the same boat as amateurs.
>>555506 was right to say practice, but I've never folding from crease patterns, nor do I fold other artists works, so there is more than to do origami.
My biggest piece of advice is go your own pace and don't fall in the same trap as many others thinking that complexity means quality (look at my Flickr, I follow someone who has this issue), or that folding the same difficult reference as everyone else makes you an origami artist. Good job, you made a cyclommatus metallifer, looks the same as everyone else's. In my mind it's art 101 and we're painting fruit in a bowl.
Find out what YOU like, how YOU want to make it. Express yourself, origami is an art after all.
>>555512
I'll upload 2 angles of the bird I made
>>555512
>>555512
>>555512
>don't fall in the same trap as many others thinking [...] that folding the same difficult reference as everyone else makes you an origami artist.
Well i don't really agree with you on that part. I often think that origami is somewhat like music, diagrams and CP are the music score of origami. Some musicians are composers, some are interprets, some are doing both things.
But i agree with you with the rest of your post.
Nice octopus btw, but i didn't found your flickr, can you link it ?
>>555519
Agree to disagree. I just don't really like origami that look manufactured rather than inspired. I used to like robert lang and his MIT prodigies, but now I prefer Eric Joisel (R.I.P. in peace) and Sebastian Limet. Change in perspective over the years, I suppose.
Here's a link to one of my Flickr pictures https://flic.kr/p/XUsY2v
Here's my drive for the billionth time https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_nwLkHnwNB-V0dtbDVsaF90ME0
>>555513
I like the wings and tail, but I feel the head is a little unfinished. What kind of bird were you using for a reference? Also what kind of paper? Looks to be tracing paper.
Also I'll be posting a picture of my modified manta ray later this evening. And perhaps instructions for the frog and octopus by the weekend.
Oh and by the way, I finally got a copy of the book I contributed to. I'll post a picture of it later (Not the whole thing though). Since the model is technically mine Mr. Cibulka has given me the rights to the diagrams, so I can post them later, if they're not on my drive already.
>>555522
Head was improvised and no reference. It's made out of that baking type paper like in pic related, not sure what to call it
Kitchen paper..greaseproof...pan lining paper
>>555641
It's called parchment paper around where I am in the states.
Sorry I'm late guys! Here's the modified manta ray
>>555652
And the underside
>>555653
Here's the book I'm featured in
>>555654
It's me!
>>555654
Can or would you scan the book and share it?
>>555657
No, sorry. But I can post the model I contributed!
>>555665
Is yours the bat or the one pictured on the top (can't see what is it though)?
>>555666
Mine is the bat.
>>555665
No thanks, rather have the entire book.
>>555665
It's kind of shitty that you showed it, but won't share it.
>>555652
i think i prefer the first version, but it might be because of the photo.
>>555698
No, not really, and you're a fucking dickhead for running you goddamned mouth
if you're not Joseph Fleming (Nepafarius). You can't tell me that you don't want
the book after seeing it. Who the hell wouldn't? So, mind your own fucking business, you cock sucking asshole.
>>555654
share the book
>>555665
Then what good are you in a book sharing site?
>>555657
>>555689
>>555701
Let's get something cleared up. I showed the book because I mentioned it previously, and because I wanted to share an achievement of mine with you all, hoping maybe we were some semblance of a community and you'd give a shit. I will not be posting the book's content, end of discussion.
This book was a gift from the person who made it and with the exception of my bat none of the models are my intellectual property.
I have, albeit inconsistently, not only showcased my designs on this site for you, but have also given you diagrams for enough models to make a book of my own. I've promised you THREE in the last few days alone.
I understand that the origami community is about sharing, so I have shared. I don't want to share this
>>555694
Yeah I'm on the fence about it as well. The proportions of the head is a little better, but it is a bitching waste of paper and complicates an otherwise enjoyable fold.
>>555696
Trust me it's incredibly simple. The siphon is from one of the two remaining flaps from the frog base. The whole base is sunken, so the flap gets longer.
>>555700
I wouldn't. I appreciate all the books you guys showcase, but I don't keep any of them. Mainly just admire how well the diagrams look compared to my own.
>>555706
This isn't a book sharing site, this is an image board, last I checked. And I have posted images.
>>555707
You do realize that the books are for sale, right?
I may have to order them both (Origami and Origami 2)
so I can scan them and share them with everyone since you won't.
Either way, they will eventually be shared.
>>555707
You don't even have to justify yourself anon, you're the only one on this board contributing with his own models. /po/ could use a few more people like you (and a few more people in general).
I think i've already asked you this but don't you want to try wetfolding and methyl cellulosis ? It takes more time than tissue foil to fold and to get it right but it's worth it IMO. Well, except if you're a fan of that glittering effect of tissue foil, that is.
>>555713
And at that point you would have contributed to the artist. It's not like I'm against sharing books, but this is just a special circumstance considering I didn't pay for it and I've interacted with the author personally.
>>555715
I make all my paper from dollar store materials. Don't really have the money to buy special paper. Also I like tissue foil, it's interesting to use.
>>555722
Double tissue is even cheaper than tissue foil since there is no foil. But it's better suited for complex model, it is too thin for simple models (you can still make triple tissue or use thicker tissue though). You can find some nice rice paper for cheap too.
>>555722
Minor details, but that's OK.
We don't need you to share anything if it's gonna bother you that much.
Most people who scan and share what they have don't worry about their conscience bothering them.
But, there are a few people that just can't handle it.
>>555844
This post will stand as a memory of another deleted post.
Unless also deleted.
>>553609
I made one, looks ok.
Not as smooth, curvy yet flat as yours but I used fairly thick rice(?)paper.
Don't quite understand the last step on the underside where a flap suddenly disappears.
It must have been tucked inside but my paper was to small for that.
Could you also upload the octopus?
It looks a ma zing
>>553845
There are free origami diagram makers things online.
You might wanna check them out, but for models that are somewhat 3D like the manta ray it can be difficult.
>>555749
I've tried double tissue paper with limited success. I don't know I like tissue foil and if you use the matte side of the aluminum foil the paper doesn't glitter, at least to me
>>555790
It was really simple in my case, blintzed frog base, sank the sides, and used the small flap to style it.
>>555844
I was curious about that as well. None of the posts in this thread violate the rules as far as I know.
>>555846
It looks great! I love the paper! Yes the flap was squashed and reversed into the model.
I was planning on showing the octopus and frog some time, but I'm lazy and haven't gotten around to it yet.
I typically used Inkscape to make my diagrams, but once again I am incredibly lazy and photodiagrams are easy
>>555844
No, the dude was not being a dick. He was just stating that if you weren't Nepafarius,
that you should mind your own business. It wasn't your place to make a negative
statement about what he said or curse him for it.
>>555905
Well, if you're satisfied with your paper that's the important thing, the rest is just details.
If you ever retry double tissue pay attention to the glue you're using to bind the sheets together. It's important to use MC or something similar, because if you use spray glue for example you'll just end up with thicker untreated tissue, which is not good for origami.
About that dollar store thing : In the art store i buy my paper there are some nice sheets (50*75cm) of "lokta", a really nice kind of paper : beautiful texture, beautiful colors, very strong. At first i was reluctant about paying 4$ a sheet, i mean 4$ for a single sheet of paper does sound a bit absurd (even if it comes from nepal). But then i reallised that with one sheet i could make at least 3 square and each one of those square would entertain me for hours. In the end even if you buy expensive paper origami is still one of the cheapest hobby you can have. Then again, i'm not trying to convince you there, just giving my two cents.
anyway, nice creations, keep going anon !
Real quick attempt at a desert rain frog for the september design challenge on the origami forum.
>>555722
So what? Why should that matter? It's not like the author is going to find out who shared the damn thing.
>>555654
Look what I've got, and you don't. Blah, Blah, Blah.
>>556102
Guy has a conscience, don't play dumb and let him be.
>>556105
mind your own business
>>556105
Conscience my ass.
>>556105
The dude is a braggart. All he had to do was show the pages of his ugly ass bat model,
but no, he had to show the book it was published in. That's bragging (showing off).
All that did was make people want the book.
>>556110
Basically, what it boils down to, is don't show something if you don't plan to share it.
Now that's commonsense. Once you spark someone's interest in something, they are going to want it.
It's the same thing as many of these people in here that constantly want published works that haven't even been released yet or just now fresh off the presses.
>>556112
I'd rather know that it exists and find it myself. What is the point of an origami forum if you restrict the kind of origami you can talk about?
Your envy is your problem alone, not that guy's responsibility. Otherwise, you could just sue every billboard in the country.
>>556113
you're just talking out of your ass now to make everyone else think that you're not interested in or want the book, too.
you're trying to make yourself appear intelligent.
>>556122
Thank you! And here's a dolphin for you!
>>556129
Who's the creator and are there diagrams for it?
>>556139
In order: the dolphin, the octopus, then the frog.
>>556129
solid dolphin, can we have other angles ? is it flat ? How's the other side ?
>>556145 it is a simple flat model from a stretched bird base. Other side is mirrored
I need to finalize all the folds first then I'll make a photodiagram
>>555905
Well I guess I'll stick around then, to when the time comes that the octopus will have their instructions ready :)
>>555966
How do you actually design your works?
Start with a suitable base and work from there?
All the models I made myself as a child were mostly accidental discoveries.
I never set out to make anything specific.
>>556153
You need to keep your fucking two cents out of this,
because you know as well as I do you are so full of shit
with the statements you just made. If the book was
posted, you would download the shit out of it, just like
everyone one else would. So fuck you and your
ridiculous fucked up statements.
>>556152
For the post your replying to and my "ugly ass bat" there were restrictions on the base of the model (waterbomb and double blintz respectively).
Pretty much every model I make uses the traditional bases, since they're so easy to fold and afford a lot of models. I don't really like sitting down and plotting out models, though I've done so on occasion.
I rarely sit down and decide how and what I'm going to make in general. Mostly I doodle with the mindset of if it doesn't work out that's ok. There are times when I sit down to make something and fail, as well as times I sit down to make nothing and come up with something.
Another important thing to me is enjoyable folding. Origami is an art, but it's also a hobby, and it wouldn't be enjoyable if every model was incredibly boring. So I try and find the most enjoyable pathway of folding.
>>556164
If people are bringing you down it means you're above them
>>556166
It's quite alright, I only referred to the post in jest, it doesn't bother me. I'll keep putting out models that I like for you all, and I'm sticking by my decisions.
>>556167
That's good, because for me personally, I wouldn't need for you to post it anymore, even if you wanted to.
The books are very affordable, which is why I bought both of them (Origami 1 and 2) from a Czech bookstore.
>>556155
Omg you are so laughable, I'm seriously worried that instead of trying to reason with somebody, this is turning into bullying someone with autism.
No I will not keep my cents, you are being a dick in a public online space, there is NO need for me to stay silent when you are being an asshole to someone (Nepafarius).
No I'm not full of shit, this is already 2 against 1, no samefagging, you already managed to mildly annoy (or amuse) two people.
No I would not download the shit out of that book, it looks like a book for beginners, it's in a language I don't speak and I only fold very occasionally, mostly without diagrams.
And no those were not fucked up statements. This is far from fucked up. How long have you been around? Is this the most you can handle?
If you are in fact autistic I will back off, as I do not think you'd be able to change your behavior in any way, depending on the severity.
>>556164
Hmmn, yeah ok, that's how I came to many simple models as well in the past.
But you do seem to take suggestions/challenges, I guess you choose a matching base and work from there?
What do you do if the base doesn't yield enough 'points'?
Like the bird base has 4, but what if you wanted 2 extra details?
>>556168
Glad to hear it! Thank you for supporting Ondrej, he made a lovely book with the second one, and I'm sure the first is excellent as well.
>>556171
You are such and idiot and a liar. What the hell are you doing in here then, if not to download books and diagrams?
>>556173
>What the hell are you doing in here then, if not to download books and diagrams?
not the anon you're replying to but, i dunno, maybe discussing about origami and paper craft ? Maybe that's what the board is primilary intended for. Maybe that's what we're trying to do here and maybe you're bothering us and being rude.
>>556171
Yes, if someone challenges me with a model, I'll try the base I think works best. If I exhaust other options I'll start trying for a more unique base.
Point splitting, grafting, and blintzing are lifesavers and time saver if you're lazy like me and don't want to bother making special bases with exactly defined flaps. My crab uses point splitting on a bird base.
Very rarely do I get challenges, despite asking. Only two or three. I tried starting a personal challenge thread on the Origami forum, but it didn't pan out. Even in this thread somebody started suggesting but stopped.
If you think of anything you'd like to see me try, just ask. But keep my other models and style in mind so you don't get surprised by the outcome.
>>556175
You know what, I'm about tired of arguing with a bunch of assholes like you, so you can all fuck off and have a nice day.
Here's the dolphin photodiagrams, I'll be making the octopus next.
>>556193
Cool, thanks.
>>556201
No problem bud!
