I'm on the lookout for a notebook that can run PS and LR and has a decent screen.
Budget is €400 or less. I have better things to spend money on. Used is fine.
What are you niggas using to fuck with the sliders and apply presets from third rate wedding photographers with?

A decent screen alone costs that much.
A ThinkPad with an IPS lcd

>13xx pixels wide
just look up the best laptops at that price point brochaco
I'm looking for a work laptop as well. Right now i narrowed the searches to a macbook air or a surface book 4. I'm about to major in traditional graphic art so the surface book pen looks really attractive.
My question is if a base model i5 4gb ram is enough for this or if i should go for the macbook air.

macbooks main attraction is the good screen. From what I understand, the Air has a shit screen and is simply a way for poorfags to pretend they are cool and can use Apple products, too.
If you have a budget and want a mac, buy a few-year-used macbook pro.
Have you tested out the pen on the Surface? You should do that.

I know the air has a shit screen but i was thinking about it because i got sick of windows shitting the bed every couple of months.
About the surface pen... I'll try to get a hands on experience but it sure as shit is better than the pen enabled thinkvision screen that i use as a makeshift wacom

>i got sick of windows shitting the bed every couple of months
well don't expect anything different from an underpowered ultrabook like the air, osx doesn't magically make everything run smooth and stable, especially not adobe stuff on shitty hardware

Every new laptop under $1000 is shit.
You need to go used/refurb if you want decent specs.
>>3147761
Nah the laptops themselves are good, it's just the dongle hell and kinda stupid (at least for now) touchbar that are annoying. Got a newer 15" from work and it's really good. Keyboard does take some getting used to (my personal laptop is an older 15" retina).
For that price I'd definitely look used and just try to get the best screen possible. You're gonna have a shit laptop but you should be able to at least work on it.

I edit all of my photos on a 5 year old MacBook Air and it never shits the bed. You underestimate OSX.
>>3148449
same with a 4 year old air and it shits the bed all the time. a7rII files completely destroy it, everything takes half a minute to load.
I just can't recommend it for photo editing, as much as I like it otherwise
>>3148452
That's probably the fault of the hardware, not the software.
>>3148517
exactly, yet osx doesn't magically fix it, as I said.
€80 will get you a 3K IPS panel
For €500~ total you can get a professional laptop that will BTFO anything under $2000
