What is a photo diary- A photo diary is contemporary style of shooting that mixes ultra personal pictures, with both posed and candid portrait photography of friends and family.
It's revoking classical photography ideas and just shooting your hot friends doing drugs and living life
Notable examples include - Nan Golden, Petra Collins, Marcel Castenmiller, Oscar Santos, Larry Clark, Oliva Bee
I know I can't be the only who here who shoots in the photo diary style. So I just want to talk and discuss techniques favorite locations etc
I love that these mom jeans are back into fashion again.

There isn't one that's the point, it's just shooting pictures of you friends and family to remember life. I think it's photography in it's purest form.
It's mainly just youthfulness so I'd say demographic is mainly 15-25??
I know it was my first exposure to analog photography and why I feel in love with it.
A lot of these photographers move to fashion photography so there's that

This was my main shooting style when I hung out with people a lot. Just documenting everything and getting some nice shots out of it here and there.
I've been experimenting with this kind of photography lately. Pic related, my most recent favorite from a trip to houston.
Helps that a lot of my friends do drag, are club kids, models, actors...generally photogenic people who enjoy getting their photos taken.
I mostly use a Leica M8 or Sony a7 with a Lomo 32mm f2.8 Minitar, Konica M-Hexanon 35mm f, or Rokinon 35mm f2.8 (when I want AF), and then a Contax TLA flash

I really like this style of photography. I would love to do it, but unfortunately the crowd that I currently associate with (phds and responsible young professionals) isn't the most spontaneous or photogenic.
I would guess most people shoot in this style, at least if they have friends.
By discussing favorite locations, do you mean exchanging ideas for where to shoot? Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of the style to seek them out?
Or do you mean like a ranking of your favorite locations like «I like shooting people in bed», «I like shooting in bowling alleys the most»?

So basically a collection of pics you'd normally post on social media?
No sarcasm, this is what it reminds me for the most part. Could anyone explain the difference (maybe some examples would help)
i photo my friends all the time, but not in that glamourous insta style .

What if you're an autistic neet who rarely leaves the house?
>>3145130
Yea the second, just to take about the places where we get of comfiest photos.
I think bed and bedrooms are the best everyone feels the most comfortable and natural. That and dinner tables Any place in public makes me feel strange becuase my camera has a super bight camera and people get weirded out by bright flashes.

Yes but taking you photography skill and framing life. So yes taking pictures like you'd post on social media but good ones? If that make sense.
Instead of taking a selfie of your friends at the top of the cliff you just climb. You take a picture of the silhouette of your friends leaving the small cave you found at sunset.
It's applying your good taste in eye for design to shitty keepsake photos.
More or less framing life.

They're super hit and miss but I feel his style evokes the comfiness of this style the most.
It's between him and Sandy Kim
