What do you think about it ? Did you take any good HDR photos ? Do you have tips to make ones that don't look like complete trainwrecks ?
Pic related, first HDR I took that I kind of like. It's still a bit blurry, didn't have my tripod at the time.

Is good for making a photo more dramatic than it actually is, good for landscapes with heavy + light clouds.
Wet cityscapes.
But it may kill a photo like picrelated.

Is photomatix still the one to use when making HDR?

I think when youre a beginner it makes everything look impressive.
tone mapping because that's similar to hdr-ing.
its hard not to apply the effect or use it as a crutch.
for me now, my interest is getting more dynamic range to be closer to film.
obvious problem is you cant take moving subjects.

There is nothing in that picture that warrants a high dynamic range

even for most landscapes you're most likely fine with what a single exposure from any halfway modern body gets you.
and then if a single shot doesn't cut it I'd rather manually blend another exposure by layering and masking in PS than using a tone mapping tool

i think it's ok when it's subtle and probably one of the worst things you can do to a picture if it's super overpowering
