Is it worth buying the sigma 50mm 1.4 ART over the nikon 1.4g offering?
I'm currently using a d810 with a 50 1.8g and it can't quite cut the mustard.
>>3144151
yes, the sigma art lenses are the perfect pixel peeping lenses
>>3144151
Yes, the actual sigma art 1.4 is far superior than the Nikon 1.4
Nikon needs to upgrade it's 50mm 1.4, it's only cheap
>>3144152
XD the pixel Meme lamo
LOVE IT.
Angry photographer here
These lenses are cats ass.
The are dead, they are just optimized for pixel peepers.
yes they have no vignetting and no barrel distorion. But the micro contrast is gone as well.
Buy the older Nikons they have the best microcontrastsss!
>>3144170
Is "cat's ass" good or bad?
>>3144151
The old Sigma 50 f/1.4 has way better bokeh.
But if sharpness is all you care about the "art" is the best option.
>>3144186
it's amazing. you should get an a7rII though to get the best out of it
>>3144190
>buying a new body and lens and still requiring an adapter is now "getting the most out of something"
Why not buy a good Sony mount 50...oh right.
>>3144195
>adapter
>using any mount but e mount
>>3144190
now i know you are trolling.
>>3144151
> Is it worth buying the sigma 50mm 1.4 ART over the nikon 1.4g offering?
Yup.
>>3144189
>The old Sigma 50 f/1.4 has way better bokeh.
I much prefer the Sigma Art's bokeh. It's a lot more even across the frame. If you crop somewhere not in the center, you usually don't get a weird sense of motion introduced into your image, unlike with the older Sigma.
>>3144236
>weird sense of motion
swirly boke is best boke
>>3144151
>50 1.8g and it can't quite cut the mustard
For what purpose?
You really want to carry around another fucking kilo of camera to gain a third of a stop?
50mm f2.0 ai.
I put that shit on everything.
>>3144245
I'm wondering what way the f/1.8g falls short. It's Nikon's entry-level aspherical standard lens, optically so good that there's nearly no value in going for Nikon's f/1.4g instead (since that one isn't even as high-tech in the optic design). It's the lens that I always regret taking off my F5 even if the camera looks goofy with it.
>>3144261
That's funny. I love to shoot modern afs glass on the older film bodies. Great results. I'll post some when I get back home from the long weekend.
18-35, 24 1.4 Art and 85 1.8g are superb.
My Sigma ART 35mm f/1.4 has only broken on me twice. :/
>>3144281
>I love to shoot modern afs glass on the older film bodies
What body do you shoot?
Also, why don't you just shoot Canon then?
>40mm stm is like 100 bucks, flawless iq
>35/2 w/ stabilisation $500
>100/2 is like $300
>new 70-300 had *dank* iq and IS and AF for $500
>16-35/4 has IS and razor sharp and is just 1g
>literally even $5 opshop Canon bodies can use all of these lenses flawlessly

So is he right or not?
I have the older Sigma and it has great Microcontrast with lots of "pop"
>>3144434
What do you mean by "*dank*?"
I've never really looked much at consumer zooms.
talking about Sigma lenses, how good is the 50-100mm F1,8. It sounds like just the perfect portrait zoom lense for crop sensor.
>>3144671
just as good as the 18-35, but even bigger, heavier and ridiculously unbalanced with most small crop bodies
>>3144434
F100 mostly
I also have a 40mm that I bought open item for $100 at best buy after christmas a couple years ago on a silver Eos T2 that I gave $5 for at a thrift store. It is bretty good for a walk around camera and super small and light for what it is.
Not quite pocket-able (will fit in a hoodie pocket easily though) but in the same price range as a muju/epic with same or better optics and much more flexibility in settings.
I use poundland agfa (fuji) 200 and 400 that I stocked up on last time I was over there.
>>3144151
Yes I have the 50mm Art and it is amazingly sharp. I also have the 24mm Art and it is not any sharper than my kit lense.
>>3144755
Currently I use the 55-200 f/4-5.6, and I like it, but I find myself wanting to get much narrower shots. Is that 18-55 f/1.8 really worth it? I see so much good about it I'm half convinced it's a meme.
>smigmashit
Never again after 30mm ART. Autofocus is totally shit, sold this soon.
>>3145765
On my Canon version the autofocus is shit in low light or if there is low contrast or if it will even autofocus at all.

M8, it focuses perfectly for me on 20 year old film cameras, I think you may just be a bit retarded.
You know that if you shoot at f/1.4 all the time, not much will be in focus, right?

So I'll explain this thoroughly once, because maybe I'll help one less person from sounding like a total fucking moron whilst forking over $2k for some meme L-lense in a camera shop one day.
People that complain about this are total noobs who have just spent what they perceive to be a lot of money on a fast lense.
They shoot it wide open all the time.
They "miss focus" a lot because they don't understand how their AF system works, or how a plane of focus works, or how even excellent lenses will look pretty ordinary at infinity wide open, even with correct focus.
Actual inaccuracy in final achieved focus will more often be the result of shooting focus priority from a large defocus, and the lense overspeeding. With fast primes often having heavy focusing elements, they won't always stop dead nuts at the point where the motor stops running. If it's allowed to adjust from there, it should make a smaller adjustment to correct itself, but if you've just mashed the shutter button, it will fire just after the lense passes through the point of actual phase alignment. If you shoot AF-C, or back button AF, or start with the focus already in the ballpark, you'll find it to be no more or less accurate than any other lense with that camera, and probably faster.

No, the 50 sigma art has pretty bad bokeh imo. Where it excels however is that it optically corrects barrel distortion. The wide open sharpness is good, but then again it's too heavy lens imo, 24-70 f2.8 tamron prolly better.

Violet halo looks to be post processing artifact, when you lower the exposure of some area of the image with "magic brush" (in lightroom for example), and it keeps those lines like that.
