Hey /p/ I'm doing my first ever wedding (first pro still shooting period) in December. Any advice for shooting something like this? I film for a local news station so I've got no stage fright but I'm a bit curious as to what exactly I will need to focus on.

Not trying to be mean, but new shooting really doesn't prepare you for anything, it has zero aesthetic in terms of photographic composition, so I'm hoping you have a lot of experience actually shooting non-news related stuff.
With that being said, just go find a wedding that one of your friends got photos of, and just copy it shot for shot. It's all the fucking same. I will never doing wedding photography, too much stress. I will however do wedding videography, more observant instead of directing people, and there's much more leeway on missed focus.

Well to be frank while it isn't ALWAYS the focus there is or rather can be "art" and aesthetic to a news shoot but I see what you mean. My main point is that I hear people say they worry about getting in people's way at a wedding. As a news man you get used to being in front of people and shooting. I have been lookijg at a lot of wedding shots though so I'll continue to do that, thanks anon, any other advice and I'll take it.
I did my first wedding a while ago and it went fairly well. It was a free job for some friends and they knew I lacked experience but my work photography taught me to know the story in telling and know what shots I need before I even get there.
So I went to the location a couple of weeks early and took plenty of shots of my fiance there to work out exactly how I wanted to do each shot.
Weather and time of day will change some of this but on the day I was able to take charge, put people exactly where I wanted them and get every shot I wanted without having to move around trying to find the right composition while everyone was waiting.
I don't have the shots on my phone but the main thing id say is have a plan, practice it and then be ready to nail it on the day.
Another thing I've noticed from other people's wedding photos is that you should really focus on the bride but it's always nice to have a good set of shots of the boys as well.

I did my first (and hopefully only) ever wedding last weekend. it went well. I've shot pretty much everything there is to shoot except weddings so i had experience of sorts and knew my gear like the back of my hand.
These were relatively useful in preparing:

I basically just watched a bunch of wedding photo youtube videos. Make sure you check with the pastor/vicar/whatever if they have any rules around shooting during the ceremony, I was free to move around as I wished thankfully, others enforce stricter rules. Put a lot of effort into the formal portraits, do a session with the bride and groom in a couple of locations and then bring in bridesmaids, groomsmen, family etc. just ask the bride and groom who they would like to have photos with and in what combinations. once everyone's together be quick, fire off a couple of shots, get a few laughs and move on.
Detail shots are great filler material, break out that 1.8 lens, go super shallow DoF on the cake, shoes, flowers etc. do some documentary photos whilst the bride is getting ready yada yada you get the idea. Everything that is a staple of a wedding day, shoot.

Thanks anon! It's an informal wedding of family members so I don't expect any issues with my moving around or working with them.

Before anyome gives me guf fot charging family it's only 350 and they have me for the whole day.

$350 isn't bad for your first one. But the editing will be a bitch and make it seem not worth it. But it will be good for word of mouth.
I just did my first team portrait session with an entire JV and Varsity cheerleading team. 40 cheerleaders, made $900 for a days work, but the editing is going to take for fucking ever because I have a short attention span. I wasn't paying attention to their skirts, and their shorts are showing underneath, so I have to go in and photoshop almost every single one to lengthen their skirts.

get the moments prior to the ceremony, if you're allowed. get the bride and bridesmaids getting ready, bullshitting with each other; get the groom and the groomsmen, everybody in the act of preparing. little things like this will matter.
take a LOT of fucking pictures, and try to anticipate everything. if you can, show up for the rehearsal. No, it's not going to go exactly to plan, but it'll give you a sense of where you'll need to stand, and what scenery will look the best.
hit up the bridesmaids, they're going to ask you to do the cheesy shit, and that's fine.
double-check your settings, make sure to bring an extra memory card and battery. I suggest you rent a decent zoom lens if you don't already have one.

check the location and see what other photographers have done there.

they wanted the d anon
A lot of solid advice here. As a precaution, check in with the B&G and see what their "must have" shots are concerning family etc. The easiest way to disappoint a bride is to miss a chance for a picture with a key family member.

who not just shorten their shorts?
>>3142724
haha this is such a funny photo, cause either the photog chose a poor exposure or the woman on the right was moving her head at light speed because she missed the timing of the jump and tried to make up for it by whatever she did...

Sell your camera if it isn't full frame and pick up a Sony a7sii. It's the king for wedding photography.
