Hi /p/, I had been interested in photography for a long time and took a lot of good pics on my phone. Now I want to buy a DSLR (New or old). I am getting a used Canon Rebel T5i for $250 and the owner says that it was bought in 2014, comes with default lens and that it is in good condition. Can you tell me if it is worth it? Would you suggest buying a new one or an old one? I can spend up to $5-600, but only if there is a significant increase in picture quality.
If I am buying an old camera, what should I keep in my mind and what questions should I ask? Also, if I am buying a new one, if I wait until the Thanksgiving, can I get better cameras than now for the same price?
Thanks and sorry for the long post.

Lies you can't even get a t2i for 250

I spent between $150 and $200 on each of my 450Ds (both with kit 18-55mm lens), 6 months ago. You got quite the bargain if you are telling the truth.

If you have 600$ just buy new.
Second hand lenses are great, but body you should check the shutter count.

Many/most canon cameras don't count shutter #s. At least the older ones.

fag, yes you can
What even is the general gear thread?
>T5i for $250
nigga where

>If you have 600$ just buy new
but you'd probably get something lower spec than the t5i if you bought new and only had $600

I just got a T3 with kit lense, hard case, battery pack and some other goodies for 200.

I have a t3i that does. Anyway OP, that's a fine starter camera, go for it and don't become a gear whore like /p/.

From a friend in a car photo group. He got new gear and offered to sell for cheap.

Ok, that's a bit different than the open market price for a 600D and extras.
>>3142708
Well the 600D is also a alright step up from a T3.

My bad, I was mixing up T3 (1100D) and T3i(600D). Looks like you got a decent deal on the T3 (1100D) from this acquaintance.
I really hate the way canon labels their cameras for North America. Just use the # labels and be done with it.
you can get a T3i for free if you steal it.
got a 1200d for 195 euros how'd i do
What do you think about a T6? There is a labor day sale for T6 , default lens and 75-300 lens for 360 $ including taxes. is this a good deal? (I just bought it)
Huge deal man. If this is your first camera and you are in confidence with the owner then go ahead, you won't regret it.
Ask about how many shots have been fired and if there are any dead pixels or anything wrong with the sensor. Try it out before you buy it if there is the chance.
great learning dslr. if he only has the stock lens he probably hasnt used it a whole ton. some nice EOS lenses for cheap too used. great deal, would buy.
