Convince me not to join the photography club at my university.
You can find someone from /p/
>>3136041
why? I think that's an excellent club to join
>>3136041
I think you should join it. I had a lot of fun with those.
>>3136041
I was the treasurer 2 years ago in my uni photo club.
Pros of joining:
- You get to be an actual human and leave the house to socialise with people
- Cuties dig cameras, plenty of those
- You actually fucking take photos instead of hate-wanking on /p/
- Get good tips and advice from people
- Go to seminars and stuff
- If it's a good club it'll have a darkroom and you can learn to dev and print, massive reason to join
Cons:
- Lots of egotistical dickheads
- You always get a chink, Erik kim-type that think he's hot shit with his black and white street photographs, and makes sure everyone knows
- Clueless retards that ask for tech support "durr why is my camera not working".
- Clueless retards that don't know what is google, "What is a good camera for under 150$ that does everything for me"
Overall it's good fun, I'd join
Do it if your uni has a dark room. It's a great experience.
the fuck do i care what you do nigga
Cons ctd:
It will be like /p/ in real life
>>3136073
Is this basically the same as a photography class?
Not in college myself, but I'd like to take a course on photography at the community college near me.
You'll have to leave your room and talk to real life people.
>>3136161
Very unlikely since it's orientated around social stuff, at least mine was, you can have seminars, but they are just badly regurgitated basics from the internet.
>>3136212
I shoulda phrased it better, but I was hoping to get the same social experience out of the class I'm taking, you think that would be the case?
>>3136041
Aint gonna convince your punk ass, just join the club mate
>>3136219
How the fuck am I supposed to know?
Christ, just find out yourself.
>>3136073
Sounds comfy desu. Shame I only really picked up photography post-uni. There are lots of hobbies I’ve developed now which I would like to have shared with groups/clubs but your options outside uni are basically just small cliques of sad old people.
>>3136360
That's unlucky, because it is the case in many places where the old fucks (DLSR baby boomers), reign. In my city, my gf's friend set up a film photo studio, it's absolutely the cat's ass, the guy is a total hipster, but he does it so well, he acquired shit loads of old dev machines, and tons of old equipment, he ran classes, seminars and get-togethers and really made the place shine. I need to pay him a visit soon.

I quit after one semester.
"+":
- friendly people
-we did workshops about various shooting styles and how to use your dslr properly
-we make a yearly booklet with images that people have made over the time
"-":
- >hurrr i shoot on Auto
- >hurrr why did you shoot this at these settings
- >hurrr I don't read or look at any photo albums and practice to get better
- >hurrrr i shoot with 5s and use vsco and overcook my images
- I literally had a gearfag that pixelpeeped every damn photo and owned a few L lenses but I've never seen him use anything else than the 50 1.8...

a harrowing tale:
>be GD student
>meet a web development student
>skinny hypebeast, looks like his middle name is instagram and his first and last names are chlamydia, but friendly enough
>invites me to his photography club
>meet in the photo studio around 6pm
>walk in and he's setting up the light kit and a few tripods, some skeevy looking girl in a chair in front of the muslin
>help him out with setup, toss him a hotshoe
>he asks what it is
>"you use it to get the strobe to flash when you hit the shutter release"
>he asks how to attach it to his phone
>pulls out iphone and ***scotch tapes*** it onto his tripod
>leave immediately and never speak to him again
I live in Kyoto and quite often see photo clubs running around with Maiko they hired for photo ops.
Looks like a lot of fun, I kinda wanna join a club.

accept your reality anon
OP here. I sent them a message and asked if they were going to have any meetings or events this semester. It's been over a week and I still haven't heard back, so there's that.
>>3136382
Wish I had something like this near me.
I really want to learn everything I can about film and developing it.
The uni clubs around here are almost exclusively so the guys that set them up can find girls to fuck.
Doesn't matter if it's the French club, the photography club, the hiking club, ... even the Young Christians club, 90% are all setup by guys looking for girls to fuck.
The only club I know that keeps it real is the video game club, but only because there are 0 girls and all they do is play street fighter.

>I literally had a gearfag that pixelpeeped every damn photo and owned a few L lenses but I've never seen him use anything else than the 50 1.8...
Time to start using all the most ancient/weird lenses you can find for chromab galore and take confoundingly good pictures with them just to piss him off
>>3136041
Photography club was like my second degree. You have real experience and real connection for the future.
All the cons anon mention are very common in newbie photographer scene, if you are not psycho you have no problem with that.
>>3136041
Pros:
- maybe a darkroom to do film stuff in
- maybe some folks to banter about photography with
Cons:
- 100% chance of dyed hair SJWs, a Jew, and a pretentious gook
- No group dynamic that forms as a result of such
