Hey /p/ I know you probably get this question a lot and are sick as hell of it but I'm coming here because I trust you guys know what you're doing, so please ignore me if I'm annoying.

I've got a DSLR camera (Rebel T3) that I got on a whim with my tax return money because it was dirt cheap and I've only really been taking random shots of nature around the house, never really exerted any effort, and I've not had it long enough to know all the settings and tricks.

But now my cousin is getting married and he's adamant about me taking photos at his wedding, I already explained to him I'm not good, and that for every good photo I have I deleted like 200+ blurry/out of focus photos, but he's still insisting.

tl;dr Could you please spare any tips on how not to fuck up these photos entirely? I am googling as well, but I figured I might as well ask people that have been doing this for a while.

Taking photos as in for fun or taking photos as in doing the job of an actual wedding photographer? Because if it's the latter there's no way you won't fuck it up.

For fun.

If it's for fun, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

go hire a photographer on the day.

Yeah, just get a few good ones for him.

Wait for the camera focus confirmation chirp before pulling the shutter. Because you don't understand the exposure triangle at all, shoot in no flash mode (it does a pretty good job at getting correctly exposure shots). Fill your frame with emotion.

Heres the big one, don't look for the shot when its happening, look to your environments and see when it is going to happen and then focus where it is going to happen and press the shutter release when it happens.

A photographer does not just capture the present, he prepares to capture the future.

well you have to understand what he is asking for, is he asking for a full package where you shoot from very beginning to end, or is he just wanting a couple snap shots during or after? Owning a digital camera does NOT make you a photographer nor does it sound like you even have any experience with lighting, and probably just shoot on program, If I were you I would tell him no before you truly fuck it up. Sorry to be so blunt but it is going to happen. If he is too cheap to hire someone then his loss, but at least the blood isn't on your hands!
Here is the deal of what you have to think about when shooting a wedding
1. Time frame
2. poses
3. enough equipment w/ fast lenses
4. having an assistant to round people up for the shots
5. in the church how does the priest/pastor or who ever react or feel about photo's during ceremony
6. are the bride and groom able to see each other before.
7. lighting what if it rains and you think you are just doing all outdoor shots.
8. do you even know about ratios?
9. do you understand the relationship from aperture to shutter speed and what each truly does?
10. How are you going to deliver hi-res images too him
11. do you have enough storage to shoot a whole wedding on cards
12. Do you even know what format to shoot in

bottom line you are way over your head kid and if you can't even shoot a photo in focus with a auto focus camera I say leave it to a professional. Sorry I am blunt but see to many times that people that all of a sudden own a digital camera think they are a photographer, well you are not you are just a JAFO

if he just means:
"hey, bring your camera you faggot - i know it would please your parents if I humored their loser son in this fashion and let him take a few snaps with his toy. We have to be gentle to these retards, after all."

then fine, whatever, do what you're currently doing

if he means:
"i need a weding footographersers hey my coseen has camerar he can be it"

then he's going to be sorely disappointed
the bride might very well kill you
they'll be left with nothing but horrible, fucking horrifical photographs of their big day and you, and their pigfuck mental deficiencies will be to blame

stay far away from the latter request
the former request seems to be a favor for you
>>
Don't do it. Go to enjoy the wedding yourself and have them hire a photographer.

All I know about you is a few short sentences you wrote on the internet, and yet I'm amazingly certain I dislike you as a person.
>>
Tell him your camera just broke. "Sorry" There are a million ways wedding shots can go wrong, and if you shoot 200 pictures at your friend's wedding, you'll find out every single one of them.
