Hi.
This is my first time in /p/.
I saw this at jb hi fi and it's one of the cheapest cameras they have atm, and i wouldn't mind getting into photography as a small creative hobby. It's a Canon Powershot SX430IS 20.5MP Digital Camera.
Thoughts?
Any recs regarding cheap beginner cameras?

If you're only planning to take snapshots get that. If you really want to get into photography get a canon eos m3 or eos 700d
>>3099831
Also don't buy from jbhifi they're always expensive
Why is /p/ so slow?

What's with all the anti-Pentax misinfo lately?

>When I read beat-ups like this I really wish Petapixel would stick to what it does well - aggregate stories from other news sites. Actually writing stuff is not its strong suite. The Nikkei story this links to doesn't even contain the word 'camera' - it's entirely about the printer group. The original Nikkei story about rumours that Ricoh might drop cameras was immediately denied in an official statement. But anyone reading the story above would think twice about ever purchasing a Pentax camera, so strong is the implication that Pentax cameras are under a cloud. This kind of uninformed, unresearched, off-the-cuff speculation can really hurt the industry Petapixel lives off.
>I thought this exactly after reading this article. The Ricoh Imaging and Solutions division (printers, scanners, copiers, office equipment, etc ) is seperate from Ricoh Imaging Company Ltd (who run the Pentax brand). The Nikkei report was pretty clear that the sales force was likely to take a hit in the Imaging and Solutions division, but mentions nothing about Ricoh Imaging Company Ltd. I think it was far too easy for the writer of this article conflate the two without at least doing a cursory glace to see that they're different parts of the company.

/p/ is a small community of mostly poor hobbyists.
Neither the usual everymoment snapshot attention whoring social network crowd, nor the professional photographers. For these, there are other places with way more activity.
Because photography is a much smaller niche than /tv/ or /mu/ or /v/ or /a/ etc. relative to other boards. Just look at how low we are in new threads and posts.

I don't have the original, I'm on my phone, so if you want Metadata, just ask.
Digital, It's to clean and ugly. Has zero aesthetic. Anyone else feel that? Every picture just looks so bland or like a magazine add.
>>3100567
Yes, when people don't bother to post-process, it screams "I have no aesthetic sensibility"
>>3100567
no need to put a nigger as OP photo. now i wont shitpost in your shitpost thread. do it better next time.

fuck off back to /pol you dumb kike
/p/ first time buying a camera, I was looking to purchase a D5300 with a 50mm 1.8 but I was wondering if there was a mirorless model with the same price range/quality. Can someone help me out?
Sony a6000
>>3099987
Thank you, it actually seems like a better option than the D5300, much lighter and smaller.
How's the A6000 for street, night and portrait photography since I'm mainly looking to do just that.
The A6000 handles very well overall. It's small and compact, and very discreet, which makes it ideal for street shooting. For portraits it'll work great and deliver highly detailed shots, and noise performance is great, so night shots wont be a problem.
It's important to note that even if the A6000 is awesome, what you really want to invest your money in is good quality lenses, especially if your shooting portraits. Fast aperture lenses let in more light, which in return gives you better quality and sharper pictures. Get the A6000 for sure, but id also recommend the 35mm f/1.8, as well as the 50mm f/1.8. They are amazing lenses, and i personally use both of them in with my sony A7R II.
>asks me to photoshop something
>I haven't done editing in a few years
>sure I guess
>sends me an image
>one is a video
>another is .JPEG
>why does my life suck
So I need a way to tell them gently that I require at least a *slightly* better image than that. I tried to edit, and a lot of it is obvious cause of the "airbrush" effect vs the pixelation. Is there a camera I can suggest to them? Preferably something cheap (so they'd consider it) but can take decent photos. I don't think there's any photographers besides retards with a phone.
I guess my question is: How do I break it to them that they need a photographer/camera and not take it with their goddamn phone?
(like it's literal android quality at best)

A Canon rebel t series can be had cheap off craigslist. My sister just sold her t5i with lens kits and a flash for 200.

Oh how uninformed you are on technology. Please educate yourself on consumer hardware and software before posting this shit.

ignoring the subject matter.....

you're going to have to be more specific, kiddo. what exactly about the picture you posted is like a painting?
>>3099478
You can tell it looks like a painting by the way it is, chief. Look at the link for more examples.
If I could be more specific I could probably have achieved the effect without asking. IDK
Interested in what /p/ considers to be a good photo.
>>3090732
good photo but not good comp. its value is in the story behind, not on its aesthetic display.
I took some shitty picures (with my phone) of my old abandoned house. What do you guys think?

Why bother /p/?
Anyone else have these instagram feels? It seems anything that isn't a total cliché flies under the radar....I guess I'll go buy yeezys to hit 10k :(
>>3099524
is winning a popularity contest indicative of being objectively good at what you do? or perhaps that's not your goal.
>>3099524
It's instagram, anon. Expecting people on insta to recognise good stuff isn't realistic. Most average people with no real interest in photography will prefer pictures of banal scenes that are best described with the words "oh that's nice" over otherwise well-known masters like Cartier-Bresson or Adams.
>>3099524
Instagram is not the place for any kind of work that takes more than a few seconds' worth of thought.
Cropped shitty smartphone photos, but learning about composition while I'm learning about graphic design 'n stuff. Critique on composition? Will post originals.

GR
- no film processing charges
- better IQ than 35mm
- no collector markup
- no failing/soon-to-fail 1990s electronics
- rock solid build quality
>>3099385
the fuji isn't that great
the t3 is reallly overpriced
so go with the gr1 or the t2, depends on what focal length you like
Aren't the Leica sensors made by Sony?
I know for a fact that the Leica T's sensor is ripped straight out of an NEX-6 and that the new Leica SL's sensor is from the last gen Sony A7. And, if you look at the bodies, it's pretty obvious without even looking into the technical specs.
My question is though, are the rangefinder sensors made by sony too?
As a side note, do you think the MF sensor in that hasselblad mirrorless was made by sony and we'll end up with a mirrorless Sony A6x6 soon?
>>3098905
>are the rangefinder sensors made by sony too
they're their own developments afaik
>do you think the MF sensor in that hasselblad mirrorless was made by sony
it's the same sensor in the pentax 645z and the fuji mf thingy, no idea who made it though
since it's been around some time I guess it's either not sony or they're not interested in that tiny niche market, very likely both
No it's probably Toshiba or something since Leica digishits have shit sensors
>>3098908

But it makes it almost as ergonomic as the sony a7 range!
I'd rather spend $2500 on a fuji and plastic grip than get a sony!

Yea!
Fuck getting a more capable body with a larger sensor and better selection of lenses for half the price.
Fuck Sony.
