Hey anon,
I'm thinking of getting a decent rangefinder but I'm having trouble deciding between film/digital. I'll be using it mainly for street/ everyday photography and maybe some portrait too. I do not mind manual focusing or shooting film, but what am I not sure is which system is better at being discreet and unobtrusive while shooting. From the analog side, I'm thinking of Olympus SP 35 or Canonet QL17. I might consider the newer Fuji X-Pro/X100T as they seem to be pretty cheap for digital. I would prefer to have manual control over the camera in addition to auto modes (so that leaves several rangefinders out, e.g. Yashica Electro). Let me know if there's any other models you would recommend.
INB4 Get a Leica, too overpriced desu

No film or digital camera is really invisible, unless it's a tiny spy camera. Best you can do is to carry something that looks quaint and nonthreatening. SP35 or QL17 should be fine, given their 35mm FL, as long as the camera is in good working order. But those were consumer cameras, so don't expect them to hold up to abuse.
Check out the Canon P/Canon 7. They're affordable, solid, and should be easy to find in good working order. Get a Canon or Voigtlander 35mm LTM lens to go with it. The 35mm framelines are hard to see on the P if you wear glasses, though.

So I'm about to launch my website in getting serious about photography
But I play to do all my work under a fictitious pen name based off a famous character.
I'm doing this becuase of my own personal experiences and anxiety also I feel my birth name isn't marketable brandwise.
So if I use a famous fictitious character as my name for my body of work do i have a chance of getting sued, also will it come across a still if I do this.
I also plan to release music under this moniker but photography will be my prime gig
Sorry if this seems silly to ask
>>3099084
use a character that already is free of rights. like sherlock holmes or something. or maybe youre going to get sued by the owners of that gay tv show?
call yourself either something greek or latin. or a mispelled name of a famous photog/character.
by the way, you dont want to look what 2017 thora birch looks like.
Do you need the confidence of that fake name being a character? I would choose something simple but rememberable for a name and just go by that. Like ken or maybe jason.
are you lads fans of Sasha greys photography. she's better than 95% of you lmao.

Why can I only take good creative pictures when I'm high on marijuana?
>>3104108
drugs affect different people different ways.
Some people are more creative when high on cannabis.
Also the amount you use and the frequency of usage are factors; getting too high can be a obstacle when trying to focus on creative endeavors

Would you say it's an improvement in every scenario?
I want to start a discussion on this "rule" that seems to be set in stone (at least on /p/).
When looking at perfect or near-perfect photos of this style (pic related) i find myself focusing almost solely on following the lines and trying to find imperfections.
Does not the focus on geometry and straight lines take away focus from other elements of the picture?

I see no difference
No one ever looked at an Henri Cartier-Bresson print and said "Look how sharp it is!"
Composition and subject matter is a stupid normie meme.
All that matters is the detail and quality of a photo
If I see a model, and you can't discern individual Poor's and ultra fine details, it's shit, no questions. The whole point of photography is the raw capability of the lens and Canon body working in unison to make a fantastically detailed picture, and that's all that matters
Fuck Sony and Fuji, Nikon is ok if your poor.
>>3103655
no one ever has said the same about you either.
>>3103660
Wait, do you mean no one has said that my prints are sharp or that no one has ever said about me that it(referring to me) looks sharp?
Hi /p/ !
I'm more a Canon guy, but would like to know the logic behind the nikons...
I know that on EOS, the smallest, the better.
EOS 1, better than EOS 5, better than EOS 50, better than EOS 500, better than EOS 1000 , one friend told me the logic behind Nikon but I forgot. Can anyone tell me which SLR model is best/good/bad ? (Not DSLR)
Thanks !
less digits = better tier, just like canon, but within the lower digits, highest number = better camera
eg d3xxx < d5xxx < d7xxx
d6xx < d7xx < d8xx
d3 < d4 < d5
ashe thing with film
>>3102769
Super ! Thanks !
Where do you draw the line in street photography?
At least legally in the US, if a person has no reasonable expectation that any part of themselves won't be seen in public, then everything is fair game (this definition bars upskirts, since people do have a reasonable expectation of not being viewed up their skirt).
It's okay for me to see you and everything you do in public with my eyes, but the moment it's recorded it suddenly becomes abhorrent? Perhaps it does, perhaps it doesn't, I'm curious what you guys think about this subject as photographers.
>>3102350
Where I live a person in public has no right to privacy. A bar, restaurant or store is not considered a public place. But the streets are. Also anyplace that can be seen from the street ( front yard and so forth) is considered to be in public.
I draw the line right at the very beginning of street photography, since it's a played-out genre with nothing new to say. It's just a sad, dead genre that is literally just a soulless, rote imitation of the habits, rituals and ideas of great artists from long ago.
It's kind of like wearing a studded leather jacket and trying to be the most punk all the way up here in 2017. Those poor kids don't even know why they do it, but they feel like they ought to.
>>3102350
>It's okay for me to see you and everything you do in public with my eyes, but the moment it's recorded it suddenly becomes abhorrent?
This should be obvious but the difference is that if you see something it's a private moment. Only the people present at that time see what you do in public, they can then only tell others about it who can choose to believe you or not and if it's nothing significant you will probably forget about it. But if it's recorded everyone, even the people who were not present at that time, can see it.

The photographer saw SOMETHING. Inside of every bad or mediocre shot is the potential for a good shot. Something motivated the shooter to snap it, but in this case I'd say they didn't quite capture the essence they were hoping to.
>>3100721
I don't even know, and that's like half of the shots I enjoy taking. It's kinda landscapes with a little bit of still life thrown in? But this particular shot you could call almost okay, kinda boring, kinda decent colors, kinda awkward shadow.

From last week. Got up at 400 am for it, worth it. Haven't shot too much lately, due to work, but that's all over now.
a hopeless sigishit until I get all my film scanned.
Is there a tool where I can just select the area of the photo and soften all colours that are in the range of human skin? I want to be able to quickly soften skin on, say, 100 images. When I use Lightroom's skin softening brush, it takes minimum a couple minutes per face, per photo, and if it's a complicated one can take up to 10-15 minutes.
What is a better way to do this with either Lightroom or Photoshop? A youtube tutorial would be very much appreciated.
>>3099921
automatic skin 'softening' always looks like ass
take your time to dodge and burn
100 pictures are roughly 50 hours if you want to do it right, that's just the way it is. that's why 100 pictures is not an amount you want to hand over for any kind of shoot that involves edited skin
You can use layers in photoshop.
