How can I take my photography to the next level? Right now my understanding of photography is pretty shallow. I just walk around aimlessly until I find something that I think can be composed into an interesting image. Then I play around with the sliders until I get the colors I think look good. I have no clear idea of what I am doing. How can I give my photography more depth? What would a photography course at an art school teach you? What are some good books on the history of photography as an art medium?

Sounds like you just need some direction in your work. Like a project. Try to create a set, or a photo essay.
try taking photos of people, candid street type the "advanced level" version.
you're always on the lookout for gestures, movements, composing, checking the scenario and the brain is always processing based on split-second moments.
it's a challenge but rewarding. it's accessible and it's free.
Soon to be a vlog channel
Is this a good setup? Do you guys have recommendations on stabilizers, gyros or tripods?

selling my loxia 50mm, never used it much if youre interested. 620€...
What are ways to get subject separation? I've only ever taken one photography class in college. The only ways I really know are to use the lens really wide open for a small DoF, use a flash off camera with a soft box on it to light the person from the side, and to purposely fuck the background exposure

focal length and wide aperture. the longer the focal length, the shallower the depth of field.

To start off discussion, is Terryworld by Terry Richardson the greatest photobook ever released? As a gonzo photobook set in Hollywood, does anything else even come close?

kill yourself.
Why is it that 35 mm lenses are smaller on range finders than a 50 mm is on a range finder, but on an SLR the 35 mm is bigger than the 50 mm? Like in terms of size of the lens and weight of the lens? Also why do 40 mm lenses (and their equivalents) get to be so small?

retrofocal designs because of flange distance
Is there a tripod I can buy that's sturdy and can point up and down but also mount several different camera types?
The capability of mounting a Bolex h16, SONY A7S, a rollieflex, an old VHS camera?
I know there are adaptors for different kinds of mounts. But does that suffice or are they wobbly? Is it better to buy separate tripods?

>take a 50mm f.75 x-ray lens
>Mill out outer casing to creat a rudimentary zoom mechanism
>Dismantle lens and ad aperture diaphragm
>Grind down, or replace rear element to change flange distance to allow for infinite zoom
Why shouldn't I do this?

What ever camera you have on you will be best camera.
You need at least a 645 with a digital back. Not using a medium format as your minimum makes you a mere poser here.

Pretty much any camera. Just make sure you have the lenses that will capture what you want.
What do you guys use for printing photos? I only know of snapfish and shutterfly. Any thing better than these?
