Hey /p/, I'm considering the purchase of a macro ring flash. Which one is better? A mounted one on top of the camera or one that frames the lens like pic related?
I'm also thinking of buying this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141849373973
Will it be a good idea? I'm thinking of using them for outdoors and warehouse shoots this winter. I'm new to this and this is mainly a hobby and nothing serious so I'm opting for cheap decent accessories for experimentation.
I am counting on your insight and experience, many thanks in advance!

If you're still in the experimenting phase, don't start with a ring flash. They're really, really limited in what they're useful for.
Get a Yongnuo speedlight. You'll have far, far more flexability for your playing around.
>>2721053
I already have a Canon Speedlite EX. I just wanted to have more lighting control and maybe play with filters. I also have the Yongnuo remode add-on to make the Speedlite more portable. I've gotten bored of having only one source of light and thought that maybe, just maybe, having additional light sources that are continous and can be filtered will give more oomph! to my photos.
Do you suppose it could work out like that?
>>2721061
Nah homie...strobes are where it's at. Look up the difference between watts and watt seconds when it comes to photography. Strobes put out a metric shitton more light than anything less than something like a stadium floodlight.
Hey guys do you know how can I make this tipe of "grunge" nicely looking photos? Really would like know

Are long lenses with fast apertures considered a dead end on FF dslr's?
I'm currently drooling over the Samyang 135 f/2 as a dedicated portrait lens, but I'm having doubts regarding the expected focus "hit rate", even with the focus assist/range finder on my Nikon employed.
Anyone here with relevant experience, maybe even with this lens in particular?
>>2720915
>Are long lenses with fast apertures considered a dead end on FF dslr's?
No.
>I'm currently drooling over the Samyang 135 f/2 as a dedicated portrait lens
It's a nice lens.
>but I'm having doubts regarding the expected focus "hit rate"
You should be worried.
>Anyone here with relevant experience
Yeah, I have a shitton of manual lenses, and you need either a mirrorless camera or stick to the viewfinder. Start with a 70-200mm and shoot it at ƒ8-11 with fill-flash. Don't bother bokeh whoring at your level.

*stick to the live-view, my bad.
>>2720915
Your DSLR viewfinder isn't designed for manually focusing. Swap your focusing screen for a high accuracy screen, or use live-view for help. You'll want to be on a tripod, since even a half-inch of moving front or back will ruin your focal plane.
Also, you could come to the understanding that not all portraits need to have razor thin dof, and that the only reason to blur the background is if you are unable to find a pleasing background and compose accordingly. The best photographers shoot portraits and fashion/beauty work at f/5.6-f/16.
I just bought a Pentax K3 (it replaces the K5 IIs in the picture), and am looking for lenses. Which lenses do you own and which of those get the most use?
So far, I have the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 WR, 50-200mm f/4-5.6 WR, and the 35mm f/2.8 macro Limited. The weather-resistant superzoom (18-135mm) looks like it would be useful in the outdoors, but superzooms usually suck.

This was from an epic hike one August morning. The forecast called for clouds but during the entire hike in the dark it was clear skies and full moon. Then right at sunrise the moon fell down to this gap between the peaks and clouds started to move in right over them. Couldn't have asked for more. I wanted to keep detail in the moon so I used Ektar.

Reposting this in the proper thread:
Does anyone have any experience using a magnifying viewfinder eyepiece? I want mine a bit extended because my face, more precisely my nose and cheekbone interfering with my photography, also bigger shade around the eyepiece would be better.
Is there a good quality brand for these, also can these magnifying ones be troublesome if my eyes diopter is below 1?
I want to record some aerobatic flights. Most people use a GoPro but I was wondering if I could this camcorder and get better quality:
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-VIXIA-HF-R600-Black/dp/B00RKNO06K/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1449672160&sr=1-1&keywords=Canon+VIXIA+HF+R600
It's the same price as a Hero4 Session. I will probably have to make a DIY mount, but do you think the quality improvement over a GoPro would be worth it? And would it work okay with g force and vibration?

The thing that pisses me off isn't that they're doing this. It's that this (a) didn't create the problem they are trying to solve, and (b) this won't fix the problem.
Sure, a raw file will give you more latitude in editing, but not for fucking changing an entire photo to something else. If somebody wants to drastically alter a photo---add an element, remove an element, etc.---then they'll still do it with a high res jpg. Reuters has created this bizarre boogie man with raw file formats that doesn't exist.
