>committee wants a new camera
>set budget of 500 dollarydoos
>They need something high quality and easy to use
>recommend Sony RX-100
>They go to Camera House and sales guy talks them into buying a Pentax KS1 Digital SLR
>get this email
"So, we got our new camera
We ended up however going for the Pentax KS1 Digital SLR as I compared the two, and this was cheaper too!
Is there a day either tomorrow or next week you could drop in to set it up for us!?
We are having difficulty understanding how to set it!!!
Once it’s set it will just be a matter of point and shoot for us"

Oh, the incing on the cake here is that they spent more on the Pentax then they would have on the RX100
I work at the only camera store in a 50 mile radius, so many stories.

kek, I push Sony more than anything (by far the best brand on the sales end).

are there any digital point and shoots that even compete with the RX series?
I did work at Camera House in Leederville for one day. What a peice of shit. Only a couple of people there even seemed to know what photography was. The rest were just retards that spewed random facts like Megapixel counts and shit. I must have seen at least three customers come in the first hour to complain about their purchases. Just to be dismissed by the mouth breathing managers.
I hindsight, thank fuck these people sell cameras and didn't become doctors.
Beginner here. Once I started learning to use manual settings (ISO, shutter speed, etc) I stopped mainly using the viewfinder and started using my DSLR's monitor when taking pictures so I can get a better idea of how the pic is gonna turn out.
Am I building bad habits by using the screen almost exclusively? Are there specific times when it's better to use the viewfinder or the screen? Does it matter at all?
>>2723543
if there's light going into the viewfinder then the image you are seeing in the lcd monitor might be a bit different from the finished work, because the light going into the viewfinder will distort the image, 99% of the time, it really doesn't make a big difference, but please, don't make a bad habbit and everytime you shoot with the lcd monitor make sure to cover the viewfinder, a lot of camera straps have a little plastic cover to use in the viewfinder on those situations
>>2723549
> you shoot with the lcd monitor make sure to cover the viewfinder
The fuck? The mirror is up when you use liveview, there's no light going into the viewfinder...
>>2723583
The mirrors are transculent beam splitters to allow light to go into the bottom of the mirrorbox for metering and AF sensors.
hey I wanna get a light meter but only have about 50 quid to spend on one, i need it for a few 35mm cameras i have that have no light meter built in or they have gone off as they where a passive design.
I'm thinking of getting a old sekonic but don't want to get one that will be dead on arrival.
anyone have any advice or personal experiences ?
I also want a light meter.
I do not need one at all.
>>2723499
I think it would be useful even if you dont think you need one, dslr's arent always spot on with metering.
>>2723497
I have the one in the OP's pic. It works for me. I use it with a Graflex, a Zenit, a SRT101 and Canon FTQL. I get pretty good results when I don't fuck it up.
just copped one of these for 35mm film scanning
did i goof?
inb4 dslr scanner butthole
>>2723354
Yeah, a little bit. You can't come close to getting all the detail out of film with a consumer level flatbed, and with 35mm, you sort of want as much detail as you can get, but you'll be okay if you don't expect magic.
You should have gotten a PlusTec 8100 for 35mm, but oh well.

Fat, ugly models.
Got tricked into shooting a cosplay/fetish model this weekend who has little talent, and has the body Homer Simpson.
What are your tricks for flattering the unflatterable?

I did not plan to do a new one soon but I found it hard to pass on and was rewarded by a break in the skies and pretty decent light. I did not process a lot of photos yet. I'm slowly uploading them to tumblr. The fujiroids came out pretty well this time, sadly I quite suffered from missed focus since it took me a while to explain how tiny the DOF is and that she should not move away or closer to the camera.
Should be nice for emulsion transfers but haven't done that yet.
Relatively few poses, this one you'll see a few times.
Where can I read/learn about notable contemporary photographers?
Do you have any favorite photographers that are working today?

I wish it was this easy, you got to look for it. I keep a tumblr account just to search for something different (reposts, not tumblr photographers).
>Do you have any favorite photographers that are working today?
yamamoto masao
miguel rio branco
clyde butcher
nanã sousa dias
thomas dworzak (kavkaz)
clyde and nanã are landscape photographers, thomas and miguel are street photographers (miguel is the most brilliant color photographer all times), yamamoto masao does a thing of his own

Quick question: Is it common to adjust whites and blacks this way? I feel like it's really popular on Tumblr.
>I literally ran out of ideas for threads: the thread
>>2722847
depends on the material, you moron. In your pic the curve raises contrast, which makes sense, cause the histogram shows strong mids. but what when the material already shows deep blacks and much lights? do you think that curve makes sense then? no? fucker? think.
>>2722847
>is it common
It depends. Some people find it dreamy and/or retro-ish. It can look quite nice if done right but on the other hand, it can fuck up the look of a potentially good photo, too.
this is a photo project that i made

The 80's called. They want their flash-lit fences at night back.
Do you guys have any suggestions for DSLRs I should get? I've tried the Sony A7 which was dog shit (kit lens) and the Fujifilm XE-2 with a 14mm FujiPower lens which was easily one of the best I have tried so far but the camera itself is kind of dated and 16 megapixel doesn't cut it anymore.
I also tried the Canon 5D Mark III with the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens and the image quality was probably the best so far but I dunno...just wanted to try something else.
I am thinking the Sony a7R II perhaps? The interface is intuitive and easy to use and hopefully it wont be as shit as the A7
I should also note that I am primarily using this for low lighting/long exposure shots.
This is piss poor quality trolling even for /p/.
Bump...I am completely serious

Hey /p/,
I have a side hustle/hobby where I sell stuff and I've come to the conclusion that attractive photography makes people buy your shit. I can usually produce some pretty attractive photos using lighting in my house, but that requires taking the pictures at specific times of day.
So now I'm looking for a small and inexpensive lighting setup that would allow me to have better control of my light source. Subject matter are pretty small items and will be 0-5 ft away. I shoot with a stock 14-42mm lens on my DSLR with a moderate amount of natural light from the sun.
I started looking at these 500 LED setups kind of arbitrarily and some seem to fit my price point. If anyone could point me in the right direction for what I should be looking at, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
>>2720918
the strobist is now your god.
>>2720920
Great resource. Thanks.
>>2720922
NP...aside from that, you're interested not in the Watts of a light source, but the watt-seconds of a light source. Continuous lights, even stupidly bright ones, are really dim compared to strobes.
You really want strobes. You can get a two strobe setup for around $200 (avoid speed lights if you're just working out of a home studio -- that portability costs you money and power). With that, you can also build a lightbox/set up almost any lighting you want with a little DIY effort. I don't recall if the strobist gets into product photography, but if he doesn't look up DIY instructions for lightboxes.
Beyond that, just start playing with lighting.
