OK, so... How do you get your photos the best level of critique and/or sharing opportunity /p?
I've used flickr for years, but it's so desperately bad now; and i can't take another bullshit comment with some generic banner, 20 gold stars, and glittery gif of a cat, and a link to some group consisting of swamp donkeys and hoopsniffers.
Instagram? - never used, for 12yo girls surely?
500px - Photoshop wankery, everywhere?

>How do you get your photos the best level of critique and/or sharing opportunity /p?
tumblr/insta for sharing shit.
/p/ is the only place with direct critic. because every other site has a reputation system, so people try not to be unlikeable with their opinions.
>>2801063
Critique? /p/ and reddit are pretty good, so long as you present photos in the correct way. That is to say, only present your best photos, that you know are good enough to warrant critique. Present them in a humble self aware way, in your own thread, specifically asking for critique. State what you are proud of in each photo, and discuss your goals for the image, etc.
For viewing, instagram, flickr, reddit. Getting your stuff seen is a tough battle when there are a million other people out there trying for the same thing. Instagram and Flickr can give you easy likes, but nobody's really paying attention to those photos. They skim by at 40mph and tap if it looks good in passing. If you want attention, you need to stand out and do things better than those around you. (fairly obvious, but as it seems like you're asking for a trick to get views and attention, it's worth mentioning that there really isn't one)
>>2801073
>/p/ and reddit are pretty good
went there to see their critique, found this:
"If my dick could cry I'm sure it'll cry tears of joy from this picture. I like very much"
also this
"One key question, why are you centered? By centering yourself in the image you don't allow the viewers eye to move. Compare this image to the rule of thirds, or the golden ratio."
thanks, but no thanks.
Anyone take pics with a GoPotato? I love mine but since I left in a rush for a mountain biking trip this weekend I left my camera gear at home.

If you'll be doing awesome stuff that doesn't really rely on much intense image quality, in great light the whole time, then you'll be fine.
So essentially: you're fucked.
https://youtu.be/vPwK5fN4Qfg
I hate the GoPro for photos.
So much noise, even at 100-400. Protune is also pointless.
Videos are good though, but really bad sound recording with the casing, regardless of doors.
I also have a Hero4 Black for a half year, but didn't use it once. What should I do with it? I'll be backpacking around the world soon, but not actually doing extreme sports or something.
Give me some inspiration please!
Hey professional /p/hotogs
Why did you choose to be a photographer when it doesn't bring in prestige, wealth, fame and the qt3.14s?
Is it because you are not intellectually gifted? If you are then you will be a quantum physicist, a medical scientist or an inventor.
Is it because you are not physically gifted?
Because if you are you might be an actor or an athlete or even a model.
Is it because you are not creative enough?
If you are you are already a painter, animator, writer, film director or even a graphic artist.
Is it because you are not charismatic or have social skills?
If you are you have already a business or be a lawyer or a politician.
Most photographers are mediocre human beings who just want to earn a quick buck by having FIRST NAME, LAST NAME PHOTOGRAPHY. Face it /p/, being a photographer is easy as fuck. Society considers photographers as having the same par with managers of a fast food chain. Meaning they didn't amount to anything. I know most of you are lowlifes who wasn't able to fulfill their childhood dreams due to being lazy or not good enough in general so good thing there's photography right?

It's a dreadful mistake to make career decisions based solely on money or fame, as you clearly do. These are both entirely pointless aims in and of themselves. So you make all the money - but it's worthless unless you have something to spend it on. It's just a means to an end. Now, you could spend your money on conspicuous consumption, which is just a vain attempt to exchange your cash for social standing, or you could put in the hours in exchange for having the cash to enable you to do things you truly enjoy in your time off. Travelling, fixing vintage cars, whatever floats your boat.
If photography is what you enjoy doing, you could either work long hours in some dull grind in order to finance your hobby during your limited time off, or you could be a professional photographer and spend all the time doing it. Your income balance is going to be lower, but it's obviously a smarter way of getting more or what you like while having to sacrifice less time to drudgery.
So effectively, as the whole "income" argument is clearly specious, your question boils down to "why are you not addicted to fame / increasing your social standing amongst people who measure such things in extremely superficial ways". I don't see any need to answer that point, as I see no reason to choose a career based on what judgemental and immature people will think of me.

Where did you take these beautiful pics?
Guys, I don't know if any of you had to deal with copyright issues but I hope you will help me.
I've been writing an article on historical people and used their pictures/photos. The editorial guideline makes it obligatory to provide a source site for them so whenever I couldn't find it on a public online encyclopedia like Wiki I used random news site using this photo.
The latest picture dates back to 30s/20s and there's no way it's not publicly available. But the editor requires me too prove that some of the sites I listed are in public domain, or these photos are free to use otherwise.
How do I do that? It may sound silly but I just don't quite get it.
For example the source for this picture of Stalin from a Russian news site was questioned.
The Russian Federation recognizes copyright for a duration of 50 years from the death of the author, or 50 years from the date of publication if the identity of the author is not known. That photo is from 1921, so if the identity of the author is known, he/she could conceivably have lived through to 1966; and in any case, there might be a matter of copyright attached to the scan itself.
Try to use things that you can prove to be in the public domain, like works of the US government.
>>2800884
Thanks a lot, anon.
You research skills are frighteningly weak for someone who write.

>This work is in the public domain in Russia according to article 1281 of Book IV of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation No. 230-FZ of December 18, 2006 and article 6 of Law No. 231-FZ of the Russian Federation of December 18, 2006 (the Implementation Act for Book IV of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation).

Gear thread, faggot.
Currently studying Photography and at the campus a work is a done on Mac. However at home i use a PC.
I have all my photos and LR catalog on my external, However when i use the campus mac's and come home most of my photos are required to be found again. BUT no images/folders have moved.
Anyone know why or how to get issue?
The file structure on your home computer points to a different place on the school computer.
If I make a catalog that sources photos from a USB drive 'F' on my PC, take that catalog and USB to another PC where the USB is now drive 'G',
it won't work.
It needs to be the same exact file structure.
The fact that you're working across two different ecosystems is hard enough.
>>2800610
thanks,
i was worried that was the fact. Exporting the catalog after each class, will still give me the issue im guessing?
>>2800615
It should give the same issue. The file directory has to be EXACT you can't move something from say "c:\images" to "f:\images" because they're not the same directory.
Took some holiday snapshits with 35mm kodak ektar 100, just got them back from the lab and here is how they look...
Is this a problem with the lab? film? camera? scan?
I just started shooting film, and have taken solid photos using this camera before. Would it be worth taking the negatives to a better lab and having them look at them?
Second roll.
The photos don't seem badly exposed, and they all have different problems, some have a terrible red cast, others blue. Some are well exposed but have huge scratches or lines over them. All have massive problems with noise and dust.
Hi everyone, I just finished selecting the pictures I'm going to send over to my photography school with a wad of cash to bribe the provisor and get accepted.
I had to produce 5 images on the theme of, pretty much, colour. (I can't really translate it exactly)
I chose to work with a yashica mat 124g and some expired Portra 160, here are the results.

Maybe a better camera would be your best bet. I like the footage and music you added, but some of the boring shots were too long and the more interesting shots were too short. What camera do you use?
well artistically it was dull as fuck.
also the camera keeps moving during the sequence. Leave it the fuck alone. also edit out the bad frames in post production.

>>2800091
Hi, and welcome to /p/! You'll get the hang of things here in no time, and find us all a friendly and agreeable bunch of folks. To understand threads here in full and avoid getting called out for asking silly questions, learn the relationship between ISO/aperture/shutter speed, the basic rules of artistic composition, and the fundamentals of image post-processing (photoshop).
Then, try eating something with a LOT of artificial colouring in it and throwing up outside on a sunny day, to get something that looks and lot like your OP image.
And resize your shit.
>>2800091
>What should I know as a newcomer to /p/ ?
1) The board is very harsh.
2) Not everyone knows what they're talking about. Take everything you read with a heap of salt and do your own research when you can.
3) 99% of the basic shit of photography is in your camera's manual. Almost everything else will be on wikipedia or in the first five hits on any relevant google search.
4) Most bloggers aren't reliable sources of information.
5) Youtube is a dead end.
So... any advice for it, what would be a recommended lens? filter? i feel like something is missing in my photos, maybe i just always fuck it up with the iso/shutter configuration and poor post procesing.
i managed to get some photo passes for diferent festivals this year so.. i want to improve.

also, the light in your venue seems to suck. Though to overcome that.

yeah this venue is particulary bad with light, they just keep the red lights on although they have a really nice set up. Damn them.
