Why do so many of us, including myself, love film so much?
The workflow is absolute garbage and most of us have to digitize it (adding yet another hit to IQ). Low light is very mediocre, approaching m43 levels of quality.
Myself, it's a poorfag element combined with my love of old shit and struggling. Struggling to develop it, struggling to nail it the first time because there is no chimping. Also the lo fi aesthetic too. And the last one, seeing your picture physically there on the negs.
I do it because it makes me seem cool.
>>2933525
Coming from another poor fag,
I didn't pick up photography until I was 18, back in 2014, my first camera was a canon ML, great film camera.
Film photography was appealing to me because; I bought a camera for 5 bucks at goodwill, I bought a 2 dollar film roll, and I paid 5 dollars on film dev and scan.
For 12 dollars I was given high quality pictures, with no need for post processing because of the color values that film stocks have.
That's what was appealing to me, that I didn't need a 500$ camera to take nice photos.
After about 6 months I moved to digital because I realized film would be more expensive in the long run, and I prefer shooting raw.
I think the big appeal to people who aren't financially limited to film, is that they don't hold total control over it. They can meter, they can expose however they want, but ultimately they don't know what the final image looks like, some find that appealing, I don't.
I think maybe it's a "suffering for you art" or hard work kind of mentality to it.
Currently selling all of my film stuff, I have no desire to keep anything but a few legacy lenses.
the first time i watched into a 6x6 waist level finder i was entirely blown away. it was like taking a peek into another dimension.
i giggled like a retard when i saw my first medium format slides in the light table.
everything film related feels like eating chicken soup on a rainy night.

Excuse the layman-ness;
I bought a cheap ass wireless flash remote trigger thing on Amazon and it only triggers it at 100% power, regardless of speedlite settings (my flash does not have a programmable LCD back) After trying it, I quickly realize it made sense it didnt work with TTL or different power settings.
so then I got one of those curly cords that hook the flash up (which the description said works with TTL) but upon using that, It doesn't recognize that a speedlite is hooked up when I go into settings, but still fires at 100% power. Is this how all flash cords work? doesn't really connect to the camera even though it's got all the connectors via hotshoe?
This is pretty gay, and I guess I will have to use a diffuser and umbrella and hope my light isnt too hot, but will have to do until I buy a Yongnuo instead of first-party flashes.

I like shooting landscapes. Is a full frame more suitable for me?
not particularly
a k-1 would be more suited than a k-3, but a k-3 would arguably be more suited than, say, an EOS 6D because it has that very cool pixel shift function
even if you're not talking about pentax, the biggest advantage in using a bigger sensor is usually less noise, but since you'll be shooting on a tripod (you'll be shooting on a tripod right?) you're better off using that extra money to get better glass
also next time for this type of questions you may wanna refer to the gear thread
>>2933986
actually a small sensor has in this case the advantage that generally the coc is smaller and therefore the dof wider. so it will be easier to achieve the hfd which is good for landscape since you want mostly everything in focus.
but you still should use the gear-thread for a question like this. aye?
Lense/Info help.
I've been looking at paying a bit more for a decently priced lense ($1000-1500ish AUD). After some research it seems most lenses are either sharp and compromises the bokeh (think Sigma 50mm ART) or dull with terrific bokeh. (think Nikkon Nikkor 58mm).
Is this always the case? currently I'm leaning towards the Sigma as the sharpness is amazing but I hate compromising the bokeh.
Additionally, would fuzzing up the bokeh in photoshop afterwards help the bokeh look nicer?

what, are you gay?
>>2931035
no sir, but please continue
>>2931034
Bokeh is a one-trick pony and shouldn't be of any concern to you. You'll use it three times and get sick of it and realize that no good, serious photographers use it all the time.
Sharpness is also of no concern, as you'll quickly realize that content, story and even just basic shit like composition are more important.
Basically, you're getting hung up on trivial concerns.

So I got into photography earlier this year, and purchased a Cannon Rebel with a kit lens, and have been practicing with it over the summer. As time goes on, I'm beginning to think that this camera is just not capable of taking great photos.
After talking with a coworker who is a Professional Wedding photographer, who's insanely good, I started to think maybe I just need to get a better camera and nice lenses, so I can have much higher quality images.
Going on his suggestions, I'm about to buy pic related. The only other thing he suggested was a 75-200?? L lens, but I just can't afford to spend that kind of money on a lens right now. The one thing I do like, is that apparently this camera just came out, and he has the older model, so it'll be nice to be able to take better pictures than him.
Any suggestions before I pull the trigger?

lol
This is 99% rotten ol' bait, but on the off chance that OP is being serious, close that order page and don't even fucking think about buying a new body, lens and flash.
Post the picture you are most proud of. Also, post the things you hope to do with the new camera that you can't do with the current.
There are endless rants on the internet already about gear being blamed on poor shooting when it's the person behind it that's to blame. You need to take a fuckton of shots with the rebel, run it into the ground and make your shutter explode, so that you get the practice you need. You should switch out of P mode, shooting Av and Tv, paying close attention to iso, shutter speed and aperture, before switching to M and setting them all yourself. Learn about exposure until you can see any scene and know what settings it demands. Whenever you catch yourself masturbating to test charts and YouTube reviews by snarky Asians, take your camera and go outside to shoot instead.
Fuck dude, you are not limited by your gear, its your mind rationalizing its own ineptitude so you don't have to face the truth - the solution is not a shiny new toy but countless hours of shooting. There is no magic pill for practice, and if you do click purchase, I hope you accidentally drop the bag of gear under a moving bus and the only thing that survives is the SD card to put into your rebel and shoot some more.
