I took this for a photography class. Teacher said it was good. Is he right? The lighting on her face needs to be better I know that for a fact.

Forgot I had these. I was about to buy some film for my Electro 35 and I found these in my garage. The Scotch expired in 1996 and the Agfa expired in 1995.
Should I use them now (or in the next year) or hold on to them? I'm guessing slide film developing will not be commercial viable for too much longer which makes me want to use it sooner than later.

Afternoon, /p/. I've had some time to work with a few scans so I'm going to post the latest stuff and hopefully have more ready as I post. These are from a variety of location and formats over the last couple months or so.
This one is from a solo backpacking trip I took in Wyoming. Never before had I seen mountains so rugged or so much cliff face in one valley.

I don't have picture of my actual set up but it's cheaply rigged up but I don't mind the results and it's impossible to find equipment out here. I'm using a vivatar e34 for 35mm and 6x6, always use Ilford chem for dev and fix, rapid fixer and pq dev (I think that's what it's called) and an old used set of contrast filters that I have to handhold over the lens because the mount broke and they're the circular ones not the square insert style (ala Ilford multigrade). I do have a question though, the e34 didn't come with the 6x6 carriers and I've tried making some and they don't preform as well as I'd like, what's the best subsitute for carriers or is there anybody (long shot) that has used a e34 or any E vivatar enlarger that has a solution? Supposedly Holga rebranded this enlarger not long ago and there were replacement carriers sold new but they're no were to be found now. Oh and also what's a good 75mm lens for 6x6, and what easels do people use when you're printing larger then 8x10?? And sorry about the image size it's straight off Instagram chat no clue its size.

Hi Everyone,
I have a makinon 28mm f2.8 that I'm testing out on a sony a6000. I tried to shoot some shots with focus set to infinity and tried iso100 in manual mode. I was still letting in too much light and some shots I had to bump up the shutter speed to let less light in. Am I supposed to have this much noise in a photo when shooting with a manual lens?
I was shooting in manual mode.
Thanks

There's no noise, but it's soft as fuck and shows corner smearing.
>>2949682
Thanks,
I read after I got the lens that the Makinon was soft and the edges were bad. Only paid 20 for it. I recently watched a youtube tutorial about using apeture mode with zebra-ing and red peak focusing.
Think this is going to help me make sure more is in focus.
I noticed though that the f-stop on this lens clicks into place but I don't see much difference when shooting. Don't see any less light or more light from turning the f-stop.
Theres no noise in this photo. Tue colored edges are called chromatic aberrations, and are a function of that shitty lens design.
I use adapted lenses on my A7ii, and cheap ones are this bad.
Try stopping down, and it will make this picture sharper
Would be very much appreciated if somebody can make this picture stand out in regards to photoshop... thanks

Should I use a masking layer that I selectively erase along the bands to brighten them?

This is from a lamp right? I don't know how to edit this but it seems like the flicker frequency on the bulb/lamp is fucked up. I do video work and a lot of times I encounter this bullshit from cheap lights, lowering refresh rate usually mitigates it, so I would imagine shooting at a lower shutter speed would help this next time you encounter it while you're shooting.
Your mask idea sounds like it'll work well imo
>>2949498
Why no depth of field in this? That looks completely unappetizing the way you've presented it. Pull back a little and shoot it so the plate is in focus front to back. Chef spent all that time preparing it and making the presentation just right and you go and fuck it up with 'my bokeh'.
>>2949631
Can you help me understand your aesthetic preference here? I wanted an intense close up, but I think what you're suggesting is put all three dates into focus, right? I don't want it to look too clinical, but I do want to use DoF better, like you're saying. I figure if my composition includes at least some representation of the ingredients, chef would be ok.

Hey guys, I've heard a lot on here about shooting in raw and having it be superior to shooting in jpeg. Can anyone tell me why this is? I've always shot in jpeg but looking to broaden my horizons. Any tips/advice/info about shooting in raw much appreciated, I don't really understand it or how to go about it desu. Pic related, a snapshit of literally what's in front of me shot in raw and fucked about with on Photoshop.

you could have used google to find an answer. jpeg is compressing your image and making your image smaller so to say. With that loss you might not be able to work on your picture properly and won't be able to get things out of the lost information. Shoot in raw and work with photoshop. Jpg is only an end product while raw is a in between step.
>Jpeg: Select white balance before you shoot. Raw: Select white balance after you shoot.
>Jpeg: Choose from very basic picture profile options before you shoot.
Raw: Carefully create a picture profile of your own, by hand, tuned for each individual image. Or, select from one of many high quality plugins, presets, filters, etc. Or a combination of the both.
>Jpeg: Be stuck with default in-camera noise reduction and sharpening, which is crude and vague due to the speed at which it must be processed on such a small device.
Raw: Carefully clean up & do spot removal after creating a custom noise reduction profile for each image. Resize your image to whatever size you need, and use any of many very high quality post sharpening tools to pull detail from your camera you might not have though possible after shooting jpegs.
>Jpeg: Highlights which go to 256 white are lost forever.
Raw: Highlight range extends past the normal "256/100%" barrier, and modern raw converters like Lightroom can interpolate vague yet colored highlight detail even beyond the raw limit.
These aren't all of the benefits of raw, just a handful which may be relevant for your next steps in photography.
