I got a GR IV a few years back and after some searches took a few custom settings from sites and haven't really gone back to tweak them since.
Any other users want to exchange their settings? I haven't seen a whole lot get posted online in recent years so just curious to see how other users have their custom modes set up.
This is a good BW setting I took from bigheadtaco:

03.Aperture: F/4.0
04.Shutter Speed: 1/640th sec
05.Picture Quality/Size: 9mp 3:2 F

Dont listen to him Ricohs are adored on this site. I use the GR1V GR21 and the GR/GRII. Im off to Japan tonight to snap shit off a few rolls for two weeks. I love using them fantastic cameras.
This is autistic as fuck.
Why are GR users so scummy? Just take a fucking picture m8, set your aperture, shutter speed and ISO and go. Need a flash? Turn on the flash.
You don't need a custom fucking program to do it.
>6 million followers
but his pictures aren't even that good?
Its all about the reach & the stories that come with the pictures.
Plus they're slightly above average and that helps a lot.

What's the best way to spend $1000 on a new camera system?
I want to buy a new camera, and I've been looking at mirrorless cameras specifically. The fujifilm XT-1 along with a 18-55mm XF lens would fit the budget, but so would an Olympus OM-D EM-1 and several prime lenses. What would /p/ recommend?
>>2951634
a6000 is best value for mirrorless right now.
You should be able to afford the body w/ kit and a couple cheap primes for $1000.
btw, you do know we have a gear thread where you are supposed to post shit like this?
>>2951642
>a600
ha.. haha.. HA... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>2951634
XT-1 if you want the best IQ. I (and most of /p/) would not generally recommend kit lenses but the Fujifilm kit lens is quite good, I would still recommend a prime though, the 35mm f/2 is god tier and should fit within the budget.
Buy the sony if yu like made in China/Malaysia/Thailand plastic construction, inferior image quality, literally the worst customer service out of all manufacturers and no good native lenses. It probably has better video and thats it.
XT-1 is full mag alloy, Fuji focus on achieving highest possible image quality, boat load of extremely high rated lenses, generally a slightly higher price tage (made in Japan etc)
>>2951662
>XT-1 if you want the best IQ.
Fucken Fuji cucks in every thread. You guys are the cancer of /p/.
>>2951634
OP of you want the best system on the market buy a real dslr like a t3i. No Pro would use mirrorless because it's not a real camera.
I wasn’t sure whether to post this here or on /lit/, so if this is the wrong place just tell me
I’m looking to learn more about photography, not from a technical standpoint (since I’ve got no real ambitions of taking it up as a hobby), but just to learn more about it as an art form. I recently listened to the In Our Time podcast episode on the invention of photography and thought that was pretty interesting, but also kinda short, so I’m expecting it to have glossed over a lot.
So any books you can recommend, either about the history of photography or about specific photographers or even just about photography as an art form generally. Anything you’ve read and enjoyed/found useful would be appreciated.
I like recommending War Porn by Christoph Bangert
>>2951226
you could maybe try reading susan sontags "on photography"
or roland barthes "camera lucida"
these are not history books or anything, just more of an analysis of what photography is, how it relates to other art forms, theoretical problems with the medium etc.
or you can read pierre bordieu's "Photography: A Middle-Brow Art"
Its a sociological study of photography as a cultural practice and its various functions in society. Its also kind of fun/agonizing to read just because of how petty the photographers comes off as in the interviews
>>2951234
These sound pretty interesting. I've read some Barthes before and sort of hate the bastard, but I think he's definititely worth reading despite that, so I'll make that my priority. The others I'll get round to as well at some point.
Thanks a lot anon, this is exactly what I was looking for
It seems like most band photos follow a formula of:
1. lead singer in front of others
2. look overly serious at camera
3. head slightly cocked to the side and/or pointing up slightly while looking down at camera
4. at least one member with folded arms or hands in pockets
5. de-saturate
6. derelict, rural, or industrial background location
7. low camera position
8. long shadows of band members
Does anyone know of any good band photographers that don't really implement these over used elements?
Pic related, generic photo of a generic band.
>>2951146
>Does anyone know of any good band photographers that don't really implement these over used elements?
Aye, i was once in the pub toilets at the banshee 'avin a whizz because ma friend wanted to hide from the rain last year when I saw the most unique band photo I've ever seen.
Band were against a white backdrop, backlit which added some haze/glare. They're all standing in a line but the singer's a wee bit forward from them Chest/heads only.
Now so far you're thinkin' that it's a wee bit generic but I tell ya it wisnae. The singer was the most in focus but his nose was in focus, no his eyes. The rest of the band were all completely out of focus. Bloody belter of a photo.
I find it's usally just these types of shots or solo portraits of each member. The lesser known band doing an activity photo rarely shows up. Bands know what they want.
Not saying I'm good, but here's a band photo of my friend's band that I took. I've taken photos of them performing live, and I recently shot a music video for them as well.

Hey /p/, I'm considering buying a new DSLR and was wondering if there is any overt threat of knock-off or otherwise fake products.
To be more specific, I'm looking to buy a Pentax K-3 and found some listings for Silver Pentax K-3's that I'm cautious of. They are listed as used (but in good condition), each has a battery grip, neither has a lens, and they come from Japan.
Are any of these red flags for a K-3 in the 800-900 range?
>$800-900 range
>for a used camera you can buy for $750 new with a battery grip
>>2951031
The best pricing I see for a new one is listed closer to 1,300-1,500. Even then, that price only accounts for the body only.

This is the Film General Thread, aka FGT.
This is the thread where you can post your film snapshits without flushing them down the Recent Photo Toilet.
>just posting in the FGT doesn't make you gay, unless you have someone else develop your b/w film.

Sweet thread
Okay. Here goes.
FIrst off I'm going to go for the cropping. You didn't get it right in camera so get it right in post, that's the spirit. You didn't though, the right of the frame is choking because between your main subject rear and the edge of the frame there's absolutely no space. This isn't the only issue though, as the subtle tones from the ca behind it's lights are now lost as the edge is cropped. This is because you wanted to crop the bus out. The cropping of the top section is because there was a lot of negative space, and again you had to crop the bus out so you were forced into this.
So how can you improve the framing or cropping? Don't take the picture from eye level next time. Learn to focal length.
As for the processing itself, the new colour temperature is awful, it draws attention to your clipped highlights more by making them a cream field of mess. The car has now lost everything that made it look good previously. The chrome has lost it's unique character and is crushed into a yellow mess. The bonnet of the car now no longer gives a lovely green/blue reflection.
Overall, I rate this crop baby/10.
What does /p/ think of this guy?
FRO KNOWS PHO-TO
He's okay, albeit annoying at times.
I can't really watch him, his personality is so annoying I just go elsewhere. He needs to work on how he talks and stop pretending he's talking to a literally deaf audience.

Just throwing this out there for those who may be interested:
If you're anywhere in the Atlanta, GA, area over the next few months, it's worth your while to head to the High and check out two fantastic photography exhibits which just opened.
The first is Thomas Struth's Nature & Politics, which runs through January 8, 2017. I'll post a few highlights from the catalog for those who aren't familiar with his work.
