Honestly if you want to be a photographer your safest bet is real estate photography. It's really hard to make it in photography these days, many magazines like The Sun and Sports Illustrated laid off all their sports photographers, photojournalism is dead, people would rather hand out disposable cameras to their guests than hire a wedding photographer. Either way you're probably not going to be making "a lot" of money off of it. Honestly it would probably be easier to become a doctor or investment banker than it is to get rich off of photography.

hello
what's your best long exposure shot?
i took this using a white shirt, uv light, built-in flash, f/22, and about 2 minutes of exposure. any criticism is much appreciated as i am new to this.
>took this using a white shirt, uv light, built-in flash, f/22, and about 2 minutes of exposure
>any criticism is much appreciated
>i am new to this.
Fair enough.
Any specific reason why the exposure had to me 2 minutes or use F22? On APS-C you're going to start hitting diffraction around f11-f16, which is why the image appears soft while the depth of focus is wide. It's a very easy mistake to make when you first start taking long exposures.
>>3011016
the exposure time was kind of arbitrary, i just played till i felt like it was enough. the reason for the f22 was that i didnt want an overexposed photo.
about the apsc and diffraction, i had no idea- especially despite the amount of research ive tried putting into the subject. thank you!
This is literally one of the first pictures I took with my new camera
tripod is getting delivered tomorrow so I'll try to figure out how to take pretty pictures of stars, I like those
If anyone has pointers and advice or such, please feel free. I like the idea of long exposure
>tfw wasn't enough traffic for pretty lights
I'll have to go again I think

What do you think of my time lapse technique? That's my first time lapse and i want to make better ones next times. May someone give me some advises?
I shot in raw, no corrections at all from the camera, my shutter speed was 25 seconds, then 5 seconds to let the camera save the image. ISO was 1600. Obviously i had manual focus on and exposure lock.

Not bad, but short and boring. Try to make a simple title, an intro, and some soft sci-fi music, probably something from Vangelis
See reference:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-_vAnJb_ck
Also astrophotography thread I guess...
>>3018249
yeah, it was all about the shooting technique, i know it needs music and some other things. I should record more time lapses (each one wich lasts about 6 to 8 seconds) and then merge them into 1 video (obviously using music and intro).
>>3018280
Now that I could watch it in a larger format it is a bit choppy. See if you can set a smoother transition between the frames in the video conversion software.
For additional footage I'd recommend going over the parts of the constellation with a longer lens, 100mm and 200mm primes or with a 70-200mm showing the Great Nebula M42 and the Running Man, the Horsehead Nebula in the belt, Betelgeuse and the other notable stars and also some info about the objects. That would make an awesome video especially if you can manage good resolution in 4K.

I'm trying to use the EVF on my OMD EM-5, and I just can't focus it at all with either eye, it all looks blurry. The image is fine on the display screen when I toggle to that.

Do you wear glasses? EVF's usually have a diopter adjustment.
Try adjusting the diopter next to the viewfinder
Hey /p/, probably an autist-level question about a lens.
I have a Rebel T6i that I'm looking to get a new lens for, a 24-mm f/2.8.
Looking at the description on Amazon, there's a line that I'm not sure about.
>Wide-angle lens for Canon APS-C cameras (equivalent to 38mm on a full-frame camera)
Any way I can tell what the actual focal length would be? I'm still obviously learning and I don't wanna fuck it up before I buy it.
It will be a 24mm lens. No if's, and's, or but's about that.
It will shoot photos similar in field-of-view and depth-of-field to those shitty old fixed lens rangefinders with 38mm f4-or-so lenses.
>>3019268
The actual, physical focal length is exactly as the name implies, 24mm.
However on a APS-C camera such as yours the field of view will be more akin to that of a 38mm focal length lens.
This is because the area capturing light is smaller than that of a full frame camera. The image I've attached should explain how this works
>>3019268
Basically, the lens will be 24mm but it will have the overall field of view of a 38mm lens. The depth of field will look like f/4 not f/2.8. It will let in the same amount of light as a f/2.8, it just won't have as smooth of a background.
hey, /p/
I really enjoy watching people go shoot on youtube. Shit like AnalogRev(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77TGw-fXMk4&list=PLYF2uMtYcs-l--UBdus-7IwPZSoDvmY2V&index=1) or Nick Carver's series Photography on Location(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RanBtwmSoQ)
They're really comfy and I like just watching them shoot nice locations and talk about shit. Anyone have any reccs of other people I should be watching? bonus points if they shoot analog. I'm injured right now and can't really go out shooting so this is the next best thing
I just found this channel and I really like it. Very relaxing vibe lol. Only analog too!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTgaiv8YdmmNqI8STrpWc7w

thank you! this is the kinda shit i've been looking for
>>2999246
+1 for this guy, just found him this week.
>mfw the client gives you editing revision feedback
It really depends on the feedback. If they want something minor like editing a face then it doesn't hurt to do it, but if they want to do a Dutch Angle, lower the sharpness all the way, selective color the reds, and vignette the shit out of it, then they can fuck right off.
>ITT: whores complain about getting fucked the wrong way
>>3019247
Fuck, this was brutal
Okay so would it be possible to take a picture potentially from the floor of a 30'x30' room upward to approximately 9'-0" and get most everything within the room ceiling on the photo?
The only reason I am asking is because at work I've basically gotten the role of drawing drop ceiling acoustical tiles in CAD for an old building. If the picture is not distorted I can reference scale the picture up and basically draw over the image to match what is existing relatively easily.
I have got an EOS T2i with its stock 58mm lens. Is there is any fish eye lens on the market that might make this task easier or is what i am asking for like impossible?
>>3019198
medium format wide angles are super rectilinear. just sayin.
>>3019198
Make a composite image. Google Brenizier effect, except you'd want to be shooting as stopped down as possible (like f22) to get the most depth of field. Essentially you just take 100 photos with your 58mm lens from different horizontal and vertical positions and have photoshop composite them into one larger wide angle image.
Might take a couple tries to get right. Keep the camera exactly level, not tilted up or down. You can move the camera vertically and horizontally of course, but it needs to remain level otherwise you'll get distortion
>>3019200
So a basic wide angle lens should be capable of this?
My only concern is that from 9'-0" I wouldn't really be able to get everything on the camera I might get like 10 (2x2)tiles max or something.

amateur filmmaker and photographer here. im currently torn between investing into a full frame body, like a sony a7s, but im also strongly attracted to the specs on the new GH5. does anyone have some dirt on either camera that could steer me in a better direction for what i need? i like to shoot with basic steadicam rigs and an external audio recorder. only lenses i have are 50mm f1.8 EF, an 18-55 ef-s kit lens, and a 75-300 ef lens
my current camera is a canon t3i. Should i stick with it and just focus on better lenses and lights? thats what my mind is telling me to do, but my body wants a new camera
>>3017838
That image...
The background is not even. Also the lighting on the model is poor. This person needs to get their lighting ratios correct and moreso- stop fucking with gels.
Don't go mirrorless. The a7s is awful in professional scenarios due to its complex menu system. If you're gonna get a camera for amateur filmmaking, I'd go for a Canon 5d mkiii or just rent or buy a C500. If you've got the money, get something that can shoot log. You want to be able to get as much information during shooting so you can grade easier in post. As far as lenses go, the only thing you need is manual control so you can hook up a wireless follow focus.
Can we fight about focal length /p/? Specifically which would you choose if you could only have one do-it-all prime.
I shoot 28mm, but vote 35mm...
