Over the last year of comparing film to digital in terms of size and quality.
I realize something that might make comparing the two easier.
It makes sense for me and made sense for the people who don't know jack shit.
>Keep in mind this is just how I see it, it is NOT an official way to look at the two
>film's massive dymanic range will always change the factors of quality
>as well as the sensor in the digital camera
But personal a layman term
Here we go:
>110mm=16megapixels
>APS=24 megapixels
>35mm=35 megapixels
>127mm=40 megapixels
>120mm=60 megapixels
>4x5=525megapixels
Now of course film doesn't grow to the size of the megapixels
but visually I see it as that by the appearance of the film.
>they will never be pictures quality of 525 megapixels anytime soon
>However 4x5 will currently take it place.
On average, a 35mm film scan will give you an 18 Mpix worth of information. A bit more if you use b/w low sensitivity microfilm.
Mind you, you can always scan at higher density but you will only get bigger files without any more useful stuff.
>>3013028
>>110mm=16megapixels
>>APS=24 megapixels
>>35mm=35 megapixels
a 110 film frame is only 25% the size of a 135 frame.
an APS-H film frame only 60%.
So those figures make no sense.
Either way the size of the film grain determines how many "megapixels" your film has.
Higher ISO film has larger grains, so less detail.
To scan most of the detail on a 35mm photo, you'll need about 864 x 0.1, or 87 Megapixels.

Why does street photography look better B&W?

BW is used primarily when the image itself has nothing at all attention-worthy or interesting in it.
Oh, look, a snapshit of two ugly random nobodies on a bench. If it were in color it would have nothing to separate it from being a scene of two ugly random nobodies on a bench that everyone can see 500 times a day just looking out their car window or walking down the sidewalk.
By making it BW you somehow fool hipsters into thinking that a completely meaningless snapshit of ugly people is artistic.
>>3009991
B&W is an insta-art crutch
Look at old martin parr for decent colour street.
Are you going to buy some P30?
I'm actually pretty interested in it. A low grain, 80 ISO black and white film with a really high amount of silver in the emulsion compared to modern B&W films, just sounds fascinating.
The whole notion of it being "in Alpha" is really interesting to me too. The photoscience wonk in me really can't wait to fuck around with this new film and see what interesting defects crop up before they work out all of the kinks.
>>3022342
>pay extra for film with dust, scratches, mould
Meighty8, just drop your damned film on the kitchen floor a couple of times while it's still wet, costs you nothing.
>>3022342
>really high amount of silver in the emulsion
in reality what does that mean? like it will be a "denser" negative, and that you will be able to pull out much more tonality and shades of gray compared to cheap bw film?
>>3022355
I'm not entirely sure honestly. I know that modern formulas have been changed to use less silver but I've never shot with an old stock since they stopped doing that in the 70s. I think I'm going to take this and do some test shots to compare it to Ilford Pan F and Kodak Tri-x so I can see the difference.
I know this used to be a Cine stock and they have said that when "processed correctly" is gets a huge latitude but I don't think they've measured it scientifically.
>>3022349
I'm not forcing you to buy it, m8. I just think it's cool to try out. I could wait until they get it perfect but I also have a chance to help these guys out.
How do you think they were shooting these celebrity pics in the 90s?
What kind of gear was involved?
also
>>3019791
now look at that. tell me thats not a literal semen daemon.
>>3019791
800 speed film (for night) and a flashgun.
If you're shooting headshots like the first pic then you'd need a reasonably long lens. 70-200mm would suffice.
The second photo is taken quite close, so any normal length prime like a 35mm would render something similar
>We sincerely apologize to all those affected by this decision, especially those customers who waited so long for the cameras to be released, retailers and others whose business will be affected, for the inconvenience this decision may cause.
Wew. What went wrong?
is nikon kill?
>>3021152
Is Microsoft kill? Apple? Canon? Sony? Samsung?
It's called business.
Not kill, they just realize this market is over saturated and it's not worth to invest.

Hey folks,
so I'm trying to determine what the best option is for high altitude photography. horror story is I took my iPhone camera through the Himalayas a few years back. either the cold or the altitude fucked with the storage and wiped my photos and wreaked havoc on my battery. looking to not make the same mistake twice.
so id like your recommendation on high altitude ready cameras that'll have no problem at 20000 feet
probably 35mm but maybe digital like pic related (way too expensive)
please something cost effective and below 500 dollars, maybe even sub 200

Reposting here because newbie anon is confused about used DSLR bodies.
>>3018896
>lens selection
It means he faced his inability to get third party crop lenses for his crop camera so instead, he went FF.
There are tons of excellent lens options for Nikon APS-C, don't worry about it.
>battery grip
You will want the extra battery life in astro. I know I need one but it is bloody expensive for Pentax.
>Wifi or nfc
Overrated, I have a wifi card that also works as tethering and I never use it. You want proper processing to be done and for that, you won't need wifi or nfc
>New is $600
New camera is always a good camera. New broom sweeps better, but the camera performs the same new or used. You will want those few extras but it will cost a lot more new.
I say try and stay lower budget on the body, you can't make the most out of the bestest most newest body if you can't put the right lens on it. With a low-quality lens the D500 will perform the same as a D7100, and to top it off only at 30% of what the D7100 can do.
Also, no money on extra equipment for your nature/birding/sport/astro uses. You will want a good sturdy tripod with a good sturdy head, $200 used, probably a good sturdy monopod too, tracking equipment for astro, $300 for the cheapest tracker, more so if you go with Star Adventurer or Astrotrac, or maybe an HEQ5 mount.
So yeah, you don't want to spend all your money on the body alone. Common newbie mistake.
So im on a market for a used cheap body to use with my ar mount lenses. What should i look for? I dont need anything fancy but dont want to buy shit either. And i dont want my images cropped.
