Alright, so there's an abandoned oilfield facility not far from my house that I plan on using as either a homestead or a happening bunker. As far as I know it was last used in early 2014, as a large pipe I found is labeled June 2014. Anyway, I need help with the following.
>Finding an effective, inexpensive power source. I was thinking about solar panels.
>General list of things I should consider putting in it

Red is the main building I plan on using.
Blue is another building I may use if red proves ineffective.
Black will be a storage building.
And yes, I am aware that this is technically trespassing even though it's abandoned.
>>
Bump for interest. I have a similar idea for an abandoned factory near me.
>>
Are those barrels north of the red circle stacked in a precarious way, such as to create a deployable blockade?
>>
>>601078
>Unused for barely a year
>Abandoned

I'd wait a little longer, friend.
>>
>>601135
There are no red barrels. I think that's the old loading platform you're seeing.
>>
>>601157
I never said red barrels, maybe theyre big pipes, but they're shiny and silver and right above the red circle.
>>
That's the first place scavengers would go, places like that. You'd be fending off people left and right, and I'm sure that an oil field would be something the gov't would lock down during a happening.

Nice idea though.

These, fool
>>
>>601162
Goddamn, I'm blind.
>>
>>601161
It's not an actual plant, it was some kind of loading area or something.
>>
>>601167
Anything of value laying around? What does the surrounding area look like?
>>
>>601169
The only things of real value are industrial fuses my friend found in a box, worth about $25-$50 each. There's also some pallets laying around, they're fairly valuable but too useful to sell.
>>
>>601171
I don't see long shadows, so I'm assuming the site is pretty low-key. What's the structure in the center?
>>
>>601181
What does long shadows have to do with anything, out of curiosity in a not douchebag way
>>
>>601181
Just a bunch of cement blocks, some are cut into square U shapes though.
>>
>>601183
Long shadows usually mean tall structures, which is a blessing and a curse, because while providing a vantage, they also serve as a beacon for anyone inclined to snoop.

Places like this are all over Iraq, and were the subject of regular patrols when I was over. That's why I asked about the site in the first place, just looking out for another anon.
>>
>>601184
Nifty. Is the perimeter fence in okay condition? I'd say it checks out for a temporary stop, but permanence draws attention. Good luck anon, I'll be holding it down in the frozen north.
>>
Go do some recon of the area, actual feet on the ground recon, take photographs and heaps of notes, if you can find facility maps take them with you when you leave. maybe camp there for a night or two, do some exploration and that kind or shit. If you can find out who actually ran the facility, which company i mean, maybe contact them and see what the plans are for the land, pretend your calling on behalf of a potential investor.

It would be hella fun to squat in a place like that for a while, there are heaps of abandoned factories near me, and i mean empty for like the last decade. I cant lie, ive been tempted to do something like op.
>>
>>601185
Oooh, i understand, thank you for the accurate and prompt answer sir.

Industrial electrician here, kind of interested in the mcc, if you head out there and find any wiring prints and specs in the mcc, I might be able to provide some insight on running power through the site.
>>
>>601187
We have. We didn't camp there but we plan to on Halloween night, that's when we plan to start moving a few things into it. Mostly just a table, lights, and maybe some other stuff.
>>601186
Fences are good, but there's a small hole that appears to have been cut into it a very long time ago. Grass and weeds grow tall over the fences, so they offer a bit of cover for doing stuff in the daytime. Cars occasionally pass by during the day as you would expect.
>>
>>601254
Is there any sign of what the building were initially used for? Is there obvious office space? Are the building like warehouses? Im struggling to determine a scale, how big are the buildings/facility?

It looks like theres a LOT of potential materials just laying around.

Aside from the three buildings, what else is on the site? Whats all the stuff near the black circled building? And whats all the stuff near the silver pipes?

It looks like theres a lot of roof space to use if you wanted to set up some solar panels. And it looks like it probably gets a lot of sun, not many high structures to cast shadows.

The main thing i would be concerned about would be security, turn those building into damn fortresses. You need to be able to lock that shit down.

Also, latrines.
>>
>>601310
The stuff near black is old machinery of some sort. The stuff next to blue was a bunch of ladder things. It's not a large facility, about the size of 2 suburban houses and yards.
>>
Try to figure out what the company that owns the property is up to.

Depending on what's going on, they might sell the property or decide they need to secure it. Or if business is booming somewhere else, they've probably forgotten about it.

The biggest worry would be stocking it and prepping it for a long stay and then having the company or new buyer show up and demolish the whole area.
>>
>>601328
That's why I'm trying not to spend too much money on this only to have my work destroyed. I'm mostly just gonna make the stuff I need when possible and buy it as needed.
>>
>>601332
Maybe plan to bury a small cache somewhere so that if the place is torn down, you could still get the cache and recover your loses. Take one of those huge pipes, dig a pit, and seal the pipe full of food/water/fuel/whatever. Then to recover it, you can dig it up or just access the top and reach in.

This lets you fortify one or more of the buildings without necessarily worrying about losing everything.
>>
>>601341
I thought about doing that, ot burying several small caches throughout the area.
>>
OP here. I decided I'll go back to take a look at the place as soon as I get home, I'll post pics.
>>
>>601596

Armybro again.

Decent line of sight for surrounding area, you could also seed some bamboo or other plants around the fence line to obstruct ground-level vision. Are there any person-sized holes on those tanks? If so, you may be able to crawl inside and clean them for use. Which building is the flooded cellar in? There should be evidence of a pump system, and I'm willing to bet that's what some of the equipment. You could also build hella tent houses with that yellow scaffolding. You could do a lot actually, the same goes for the scrap.

Do you have any basic tools?
>>
>>601743
I do, and the flooded cellar isn't in a building, it's at the back end of the area on its own.
>>
>>601745
Circled in black? If you figure out the pump situation, that would be awesome storage. The corrugated steel pipe section could be buried half way and used as a fire pit, the bigger rounded sections to frame a tarp shelter or for prone cover. I see 3 ways in, what you may wanna do, if you're hunkering down, is create a bottleneck at one entrance. For instance, the gate to the left, is that a mound of dirt?

I would also really look into adverse posession laws in your area. Could benefit you greatly.
>>
>>601754
Yeah, it is, but it's not too big.

>adverse possession
Explain pls.
>>
>>601757
Eh, it's still some work done for you. I would put the culvert in the ground as a foxhole right in that spot, with a dirt glacis around the front. Also, rig some vehicle obstacles out of the heavy-gauge pipe.

And adverse posessionbis aka Squatter's Rights. Usually if you move onto property and show that you're actually using and maintaining the property, you can keep it in exchange for back taxes or whatever instead of paying market value.
>>
>>601764
I plan on using some of the scaffolding and junk to block off the normal entrances. I get in through a hole in the fence.
>>
>>601711
>brought a gun tresspassing
shiggity. That's a nice looking woodstove, though.
>>
>>601790
It's not trespassing if you don't get caught :^)
>>
>>601711

>Mfw there is random picture with gun
>mfw only one person even mentioned it
>>
>>601798
This place is spooki as fuck when you're out there alone.
>>
>>601773
It's one year removed of use, that's hardly "abandoned". Maybe a project got put on hold or delayed. Maybe they are currently looking for a buyer. Either way you're clearly trespassing. If they find you, you'd be LUCKY if they give you five minutes to take your possessions and leave before they bulldoze that place for the new buyer.
>>
>>601824
I actually asked my mom about it and she said it was last actually used 20 years ago, now all they do is dump junk and shit there.
>>
>>601830
And they still own it, dumb fuck.
>>
>>601832
I know that, fucktard.
>>
All those materials, holy shit man you could make a totally bitching base/bunker/whateverthefuck.

Do a short term stay, a week or so, see if anything happens, see if the site is monitored, just because you dont see anyone on the site, it dosnt mean there is no security. Guards can be lazy as fuck, they just sit in the car and scope sights out with binoculars, especially when theyre low value/low importance targets.
>>
>>601798
>mfw people still think guns are a big deal
>>
>>601793
Yeah, but if you do get caught, you're looking at serious charges and jail time.

>>602033
They are when you're trespassing.
>>
>>602033
>mfw telling the officer "but I was carrying legally!" while caught trespassing will convince him to let you go

Carrying a gun while trespassing is a dumb, dumb fucking idea. Period. Doesn't matter if you're carrying legally.
>>
>>602009
Even a lot of "Abandoned" warehouses will have some kind of motion sensing silent alarm rigged up. You wouldn't believe how many places chased us out for paintballing.
