Would anyone be up for some kind of a group buy for an /out/ patch/badge?

I'm not even sure how we would go about this, it's just an idea for now. It doesn't even have to be specific to /out/ or 4chan necessarily like some of the other boards projects, just a cool design related to the outdoors maybe. Anyway, if there's enough interest we can start brainstorming ideas, finding out suppliers etc. otherwise just let this thread die.

Anyone not familiar with /out/ would consider that patch to represent homosexuality.

My vote would be a patch with bear at the picnic table.

Have a look at this Mora. It's possible that with enough money we could get Mora to do something like this for us.

But, for something like this you'd probably need to buy at least a hundred units. (I really don't know.)

Possibly that would be feasible for /k/ but not for us. Unless some moneybags anon wants to sit on 90 Moras after we buy the other 10 from him.

It's probably better if it's not specific to 4chan tbh. Like the top 3 here:

>>
>>462241
So put forward some ideas that AREN'T in-jokes. Even if they're shitty ms paint jobs or pictures of patches you do like that you've found on Google. ANYTHING. Better than just saying "not this, not that. nope. I'm out"
>>
>>462232
>>462228
I mean sure, I know the term "coming out", but I wouldn't associate a patch that says "out" with that.
>>
>>462253
if they don't have in-jokes or references to /out/ then there's no point in making an /out/ patch
people want a patch that other's from /out/ have but don't want to be recognised as 4channers that makes no fucking sense
if anyone here has expereience with the /n/ jersey projects they'll know the first thing that needs to be decided on isn't a design, it's what we want to accomplish
do we want something that is a jokey memey patch or do we want something subtle but still recognisable or something else entirely
then we can move onto the design which means setting a colour palette so we don't get too many varying designs which will make voting on the winning design much easier, size comes into play here aswell which is something no one has mentioned yet
at some point we need a manufacturer which means we'll need a project leader who will be responsible for all communication with them because no company wants questions from dozens of anons
i love the enthusiasm itt but it's not aiming at anything and it will soon peter out if we don't do this properly
if this idea is to come to anything it needs more than passion and ideas it's need someone to steer the ship and until someone volunteers to do so we're just messing around
>>
Do you think it would be possible to have nugget sell them after we reach a design and have them made?
>>
I'd be in for the bear patch or decal. I wouldn't buy the fox thing, just because it looks stupid.
>>
>>462258
>people want a patch that other's from /out/ have but don't want to be recognised as 4channers that makes no fucking sense

It makes perfect sense. If it was a design collectively agreed upon by /out/, is only owned by people on /out/ and would only be recognized by /out/, then it is an /out/ patch.

I guess we need an honest vote on the matter (no samefagging)

I vote for not having "/out/" specifically written on the patch, personally. And it not being directly related to /out/ or 4chan. A subtle in joke would may be acceptable but it would depend.
>>
Couple reasonable slogans to indicate these are /out/ related patches while still being somewhat subtle of it:

Sc/out/ (as recommended from earlier post)
/out/Craft
Fall/out/
Hang/out/
Hereab/out/s
Look/out/
/out/ting
/out/Break
/out/Cast
/out/Classed
/out/Look
/out/Doorsman
Pitch/out/
Roll/out/
Set/out/
S/out/hbound
S/out/hland
Take/out/
Walkab/out/

Perhaps not the best list, but there are a few gems in there to choose from.
>>
>>462277
>It makes perfect sense. If it was a design collectively agreed upon by /out/, is only owned by people on /out/ and would only be recognized by /out/, then it is an /out/ patch.
but /out/ is part of 4chan and the reason we're here and not on r/outdoors is because 4chan is where we prefer to be
>>
>>462283
You forgot Bug/out/
>>
>>462295

I intentionally left Bug/out/ because of the spite people on this board have in regard to "bugging out". I personally enjoy putting together scenarios and gearing up towards surviving in a SHTF situation, but we are the minority here. The majority don't care for it, and would deny the idea of a "Bug/out/" patch outright.
>>
>>462277
>no reference to /out/ 4 chinz

sooooo you dont want a out patch (or whatever item)
but you want generic "leave no trace but its ok to shit in rivers patch" so its not recongised but yet has out humor... ?

kinda defeats the purpose of a patch,
also i dont think that 4 chan is a terrible comunity (unless you only visit pol/b/out )
and since out is such a small board i dont think many would reconise if you pass them on the trail.

my understand of custom lighters is they basically manufacture a plastic sticker and apply it to the lighter so an even cheaper option would be to produce stickers and apply them ourselves
sure they might not last as long but how long does a lighter last anway?
we'd be better off with more stickers for the same price and being able to use them on many lighters

better, but still not really what i'm after. look at the pic in the sticky again. for some reason your bear has some weird look on his face/head tilt. if you had him positioned just like he is in the sticky, then a straight solid-black (or white) silhouette would still make him clearly a bear, but without so much detail. same for the picnic table.

Another variation on the theme. Centered the face because it looked weird off center with eyes. This is far from complete m8s, it's more of a first draft so keep bouncing ideas off each other and we can evolve this until it's perfect and most people are happy with it. I can do mock ups of anyone's idea to gauge reaction. Want a pine tree in the background? Just ask. Although I tend to agree no txt and simplicity is better.

However, I'm currently packing for an /out/ing starting tomorrow and won't be back until Monday so if there's no response don't think I've lost interest. Keep thread active and keep discussing ideas. If it reaches bump limit (nearly halfway there already!), someone make a new one. I'll catch up with the progress and maybe update the design etc. when I get back.

I suppose I could upload the .ai file if you guys wanna fuck around with it whilst I'm gone.
>>
>>462655
I like it. It would look good with a tree in the background I reckon. I found a website that prints custom patches. Could be done pretty cheap, but they order in bulk. Link not available because I'm on my plebPad and it's too difficult.

Nice idea but that's gonna be crazy expensive to produce. I know there's not many of us on /out/ but lets say we get 50 of each so we've got some spare. That's 350 straight away + 50 x however many more proficiencies we can think up. Unless we can buy proficiency badges 1 at a time from a supplier as people complete them to cut down on costs. But usually you need to buy in bulk. Realistically, it's not like 50 people on /out/ are going to climb a 13,000ft peak or thru hike a trail any time soon.

Depending on the costs I'd be willing to purchase these from the manufacturer and then distribute them among sc/out/s if shipping and production costs were covered for each individual patch. I'm in the UK so anybody in Europe would be pretty sorted, as well as North America as it's easy to ship stuff across the Atlantic these days. Not sure about Australia, but it's all handled by Royal Mail.

Prices for sending stuff via Royal Mail:

UK: 53p
EU: £2.35 (€3.18)
North America: £3.48 ($5.37US)
Australia: £3.48 ($6.90AU)

Prices were based on shipping to France (EU) and USA (North America). Assumes that the patches weigh <100g with the envelope. Can get more prices pretty easy from the Royal Mail website. The USA and AU prices aren't the cheapest ones there, but they guarantee 7 days where are the ones which were like £2.50 guarantee 28 days.
>>
>>464322

Based on this link: http://www.mydogtag.com/accessories.php?cat=military_patches

All of them are going to weigh less than 100g.

So depending on production costs we're talking about $10US per patch w/ shipping if my baseless guesses as to manufacturing costs are correct. Does someone have a more accurate estimate to the manufacturing costs?
>>
>sending money to people from 4chan
lul
>>
>>464328
>we're talking about $10US per patch w/ shipping

Yeah fuck that. I want one, but I don't $10 want one. Why not let the guys from nugget enterprises do it? Dem economies of scale.
>>
>>464350

An alternative would be to have one person purchase the initial bulk and then distribute a number of them to individuals in other countries.

E.G. I buy 100 for the startup, send 50 to the US, 25 to Australia and keep 25 myself to distribute in the EU. Which would cut shipping costs considerably.
>>
>>464353
how about an anon with a solid ebay rep? he could sell from there
>>
>>464384

You have the same issue with shipping costs and crap if it's one anon selling to the world, so I think that you get an initial anon to purchase enough for the manufacturer to actually do it and then from there you send bulk packages out to individual locations (N. America, Europe and Australia) so that shipping costs are overall reduced.

I could send 50 letters to the USA for £170 or I could sent one package to the USA for £10 and then each of those could be further posted internally for like $1 each, which leaves the overall price at about 1/4 that of the price of someone in the UK shipping individually to the USA.

I've got an eBay rep of 36 on my current account and like 50 on my mother's account from before I was 18 (I was the only one using it but it was in her name).

I'm from South Wales. I don't really take part in the "debate", but from what I can see it depends on what you're cooking and also what you can do. You can't exactly make beef jerky with a jetboil, but for anything you stick in a saucepan the portable stoves are more convenient than a fire and probably do a better job of cooking the food, too.

the guy wants designs manufactured yesterday and we don't even have a design yet, how is he helping?
there's plenty of interest so we don't need him being a cheerleader
what we need is someone to take control and until that happens this is as far as the project will get
you seem to know your shit so how about YOU volunteer to be project leader and YOU can run the vote as to which patch/patches are chosen then YOU can decide on a manufacturer and YOU can liaise with them and sort out any issues that may arise
like anything in life someone needs to make decisions and be held accountable for them and until we have a leader we're a rudderless ship
so keep telling people to do shit while being unwilling to actually have the responsibility of telling people to do shit and we'll see how long it takes to get the patches made
btw sick office space reference, it almost made me not want to rant at you

Maybe. But this will cost me $125 with no guarantee I'll see my money again. For the other designs as well, we're looking at $375 total. If they sell out, then we can order some more. But I want to see if 50 will sell first.

Also, adopting a trip for the purposes of selling these things/keeping you guys informed etc.

Shut up and take my money. I'd like one for both my bags

how big of a patch are we talking 3"? I am considering sending this to the studio to see what patches will cost for those of us here in the United States.

I think a 3" patch is about right, I am not a fan of Velcro on the back as has been stated above
>>
OK, I just talked to the patch company. They can do the 3" bear patch for 3.54 each for 50.

I can front the cost for the 50 if enough people can confirm they would send me $5 as a check or money order and I would drop the patch in the mail, USPS, no international.
>>
>>466216
>no international

There goes my boat.
>>
>>466218
same here

I would gladly paypal you the money though, plus postage cost to the uk
>>
>>466218
>>466224
I don't know how postage works to UK. I will look it up.....
>>
>>466226
USPS says its 5.10 to ship an international letter envelope. I don't yet know if I need to buy the envelope from them...
>>
>>466162

Dope. I'll buy one if you happy to send it to Oz.
>>
>>466162
I'm off /out/ for a few weeks and another patch thread finally starts up... I'm down with this design, if you provide some form of private communication (email etc) I'll put in enough money for a few patches
>>
Ausfag here.

I've contacted a few companies and the cheapest (and most realiable) quote I got is through platatac.com

For the bear on picnic table vector (>>466162), full embroidery, 75mm, velcro back or sew on, we can get it for $4 AUD for a 50 patch run.

I'm willing to fork out the $200 if enough Aus/kiwifags want some. Let me know your pref on velcro or sew on.

Are you a Melbfag?

>>
>>466162
just be careful about selling because trolly from /o/ who sells the wat racing stickers got b&
>>
I don't give a fuck which one it becomes, but I want one. I live in Europe so if someone is gonna make this happen and ships to Europe count me in!
>>
>>466210
2.5x2.5", no backing. Sew on only.

I haven't sorted out a payment method yet, Paypal would probably be the easiest but I don't really want to give out my name/email so will have to look into creating a 2nd account specifically for the patch if it's possible without using my real name.

I'm in Europe, so if an American and Aussie anon want to take charge of their continents then that's ok with me I guess but you'll have an issue then of all the patches not being the same size/quality if you produce them elsewhere and it might confuse some people over who's the legitimate seller. If you want, once they arrive I can post some to you guys in bulk and then you can distribute them to local anons so the patches are consistent across the board. Like >>464469 suggested.

Alternatively, I really don't mind sending them all out myself but it does mean Americans/Aussies will pay slightly more for postage.

But whatever, the designs out there now, do whatever the fuck you guys like with it.
>>
>>466162

Would you ever consider doing a run of the same thing in decal form? I have no use for a patch.
>>
>>466257
I'd be interested. I would rather sew-on.
