Ok /out i dont know if this is the right place to put this thread but i am thinking about getting into mountain/cross country biking and was looking for opinions on what the best mountain bike is in the 600 - 750 dollar range

Try asking the bike thread on /n/. They tend to be pretty knowledgeable.

Look on pinkbike for something used. A new bike that's worth only $700 is low end.

Honestly, I'd start with either a WM special or a cheap used mid-range bike and see what you want first. You might decide after the first couple rides that what you really wanted is a road bike to get to a chill camping spot rather than a mountain bike that just isn't geared for roads. But maybe that's just me.

See, this is why I said not to go to /n/.
>WM special
Not even once. Especially if you're going to take it off-road. If you want to try MTB ing out on the cheap, rent or buy used.
>road bike
A touring bike maybe, but a road bike isn't going to get you and your gear to any chill camping spots. You might find a nice B&B though.
MTBs are better geared for touring than road bikes. Reddit likes road bikes.
