Gonna be hiking across Zion this September and just wondering what I should pack that's the bare minimum. Gonna be out there for 8 days, hiking around 20 miles a day more or less. Not gonna be bringing a tent.
>>1045344
Do you mean occupied Palestine?
>>1045499
No dumbass I'm talking about zion national park in Utah.
>>1045344
>Not gonna be bringing a tent.
you're going to need a bivvy bag or something to keep the scorpions and snakes off you.
Hey /out/, I'm driving from NJ to New Mexico in early August. What are some good hikes there? Any hidden gems? I'll have camping supplies, but probably not looking to be gone for more than a night.
Also, is it possible to camp with a tarp in that environment or will the bugs fuck me up? I'm from the east coast and don't really have to consider scorpions/snakes.
New mexico is huge.
What part are you heading to ?
I can tell you about the north rio grande corridor and thats about it.
>>1044934
No specific part, just planning to roam the west for a week, do some hikes and see some sights.
>>1044917
I've lived in New Mexico for the past 24 years. Was in Jersey before I came here. Trust me OP. If you are coming that far, go a few more hundred miles and spend your time anywhere in Southern Utah. New Mexico can be cool, but Utah is so much better.
what are some god tier boots i can hike around Scotland with?
please be >>1046408
Leaving for Scotland in 4 days. Got myself some Meindl Sienas.
Very nice shoes, very wide nose which is perfect for my ogre feet.
How do I force myself to go /out/ when I fucking despise every outdoors activity?
>hiking: literally walk around and look at trees for hours
>camping: hiking except you get to sleep in a plastic bag
>fishing: sit on your ass getting bit by bugs and sunburned for hours until some brainless fish falls for your bait
>hunting: difficult to get into if you were not raised doing it, as far as I can tell you sit in a stand in some woods watching paint dry until game comes by
>gardening: put in MASSIVE amounts of effort and time, get bit by fire ants and stung by wasps, half your crops die, after months get some mediocre tomatoes you could have just bought for like $2
>climbing: too expensive to get into
>skiing: ditto
>all of the above except hunting: full of numale cucks and their nemeses the redneck trailer trash
However every time I /out/ I experience amazing health benefits, for example my skin clears up and I get a raging erection, so I guess the bacteria from all the disgusting filth outside boosts T somehow. How do I force myself to go /out/? I'm thinking maybe I should just get an outdoors job so I'll actually have some concrete task to complete while I'm out there and not just bumbling about in the woods trying to entertain myself.
Sounds like you're just a compulsive loser in general. Have you considered suicide?
>>1045839
>every time I /out/...I get a raging erection
obvious: start jerking off exclusively /out/
I like solitary hikes but having a friend to accompany you is great because the time passes by quicker.
should i invest in the meme fleece?
i want a quality fleece for myself so i dont have to borrow my dad's old one from the 90's all the time
does patagucci live up to the hype or is it solely for the meme
>>1045146
is Patagonia stuff good? Yes.
Can you get the same thing from a different company at a cheaper price? Absolutely.
Check out Condor. Not sure what their MSRP is but I used to work at a milsurp store that sold their fleeces for like $35
>>1045154
This is the truth. I'm at a place now and I bought a fleece army coat for 30 bucks, no doubt it'll be 60 in the winter though
The thing to remember about companies like Patagonia, Marmot, etc is that they make really great technical gear, but the profit margin on that gear is smaller than the profit margin on t-shirts, fleeces, trucker hats, etc. The more over priced swag they sell, the less they have to charge for their top end gear.
That being said, buy the fleece you want. My best fleece ever was Old Navy. Hell, every Goodwill in America has racks of fleece jackets for dirt cheap.
I'm camping overnight here. My method of transport is a shitty rowboat
You guys have any ideas on what I should bring?
Life jacket, firewood, weed
wind shelter
a coffin.
When you're out, do you to put yourself in dangerous situation on purpose for thrill's sake?
I often try more challenging routes and more dangerous approaches on my outings because I believe it feels better once you've completed it and you have achieved something greater.
That being said, when I'm with other people I will always make sure they understand the risks and will ask if they want to or not. And if I'm in a situation where if a problem arose I'd be in even bigger trouble, then I may proceed cautiously.
On my way, baby.
[spoiler] kidding, I'm not retarded. Just took this photo--fires are scary.
>>1042968
No
I fully support the people who do though, since there are too many people on the planet
Good riddance to retards
Found this while metal detecting today. Any clues what it could be?

some kind of special dice.
for a board game or some type of divination or fortune telling practice?

are all the faces stamped with either an "X" or a "C" ?
Especially the high carbon series. What does /out/ think about Schrade? Would /out/ have a carbon blade or rather stainless? I've been eyeballing the Schrade SCHF59 and it seems to do most tasks well. Also full tang, although that wouldnt mean much on a 65 Mn steel knife, because supposedly this alloy is ver brittle?
Photo of the tang (weight at about six ounces)
isn't 65Mn a kind of spring steel? at least thats what i get from my german database and online like http://www.totalmateria.com/subgroup.aspx?LN=EN&id1=30337&db=S
anyways it should be fine with non abuse use.
i myself tend to avoid stainless or most rustproof alloys as rust is basically a non issue besides looks. unless you do a lot of watersport your only lose a few microns a year. and you get better properties for the same cost.
>>1041428
Yeah its said to be something of the like of spring steel, also thas why its coated so it doesnt show imperfections n shit. Also for 30$ I wont lose much.
I'm thinking of getting a new hunting knife. No gay batoning, I already have my grandfathers trusty hatchet, I need a durable, quality knife that can handle light skinning, sharpening and cutting some sticks, all around camp knife. I'm thinking of getting the Buck Pathfinder.
Is it a good choice?
It'll work
I've used a 119 (similar knife) for the tasks you mention without problems. Fishing too, and the 420HC holds up well to corrosion.
>>1040577
Whats you opinion on the Buck Selkirk? Seems like a nice full tang knife with (probably easily swapped) mycarta handles. Ive only found out about it today, and it has a thicker blade for batoning as well. Seriously considering it..
>>1040594
Looks ok. More bushcraftey with the broader blade, wide tang and fire steel, but it'd work the same for tasks outside of hunting/food and tent pegs/kindling.
Same steel. 420HC is decent enough.
If you want a more multipurpose knife, it'd probably be better.
On the other end, a Buck 110 folder would also work for nearly everything, with a hatchet for splitting timber.
Does anybody take part in /out/ activities that require you to look a little smarter?
What do you wear?
>how 2 b a country gent pls?
If you have to ask; you won't be one
Even if you acquire the capital to join; you'll just be nouveau riche

Golf and partridge shoots.
I wear golf pants and a polo to both.

The old wealth is long gone my friend.
The aristicracy is a dead end.
Found my first arrowhead today, along with some knapped flint in a cornfield. Post your recent finds
>>1045888
Also found this, not sure what it is, it looks like a tooth to me.
>>1045896

That's a rock.
I finally bought a high quality stove.
Pic related.
Still need a solar panel, any ideas?
Shills and trolls are not even trying these days.

What do you do when your vagina bleeds in the forest?
>the smell of the rainy forest and wet dirt
>the smell of the wet forest and rainy dirt
>the smell of rainy beach and wet ocean
>the smell of a rushing forest stream during the wet winter thaw
This summer I will go hiking with my father in Norway. Any tips for me as a newbie from people who have been there?
>>1044680
I have been twice at the Trolltunga.
You don't really need any advice, just wear good hiking boots, have raincoat with, pretty much a lot of food (Trolltunga hike takes about 8-10 hours). One bottle of water is enough for both of you - there are plenty of creeks with clean fresh mountain water.
>>1044680
and remember to take some warm cloth with you - up in the mountains it can be really cold compare to the ground temperature. During my hike last year it was only +8/+10 degrees
>>1044682
trolltunga... be prepared to stand in line for an hour after hiking for 4 just to take the same photo thousands of tourist have taken before... you same applies to all those places
