Is this geocaching as fun as it seems? Does anyone have any interesting stories? It's kind of weird that there's little secret caches of goodies around the area I live where people visit once in a while.
I've never tried this OP but it sounds fun, my dad was considering doing this.
I think it's actually a little less fun than it seems, but it's a good way to kill an afternoon
It can be a fun little way to discover an area you've never been or learn history about the area you are in. i like to do it when i get to a new city, youc an learn a lot about a city based on it's geocaches and the facts that are given in the description. sometimes it can be a real pain in the ass to find, almost to the point where it's more of an unpleasant experience then a good one. That's why i don't look for micro's anymore, fuck those little things. It can also be a fun date activity if you don't have anything else to do.
I plan on putting out bear traps for my protection while I sleep, could I get into any legal trouble if people that were causing me any problems Stepped on one?
Yes, you can get in massive legal trouble.
Don't be an idiot or a troll.

Not a troll just live outside and these drug addicts keep fucking with me at night...
I have a weapon, but this shit is getting ridiculous

put legos down inside so when they break in and take their shoes off they will step on them and be in extreme pain.
Hey sc/out/s,
can any ausfags out there help,
I live in victoria and there's no decent places to find proper outdoor gear.
Places like Kathmandu, Mountain Design, Mitchells Outdoors, Rays Outdoors, Annaconda, they all have the same, overpriced luxuries people buy to make a camping trip more like a living room in the woods.
I wouldn't care but it doesn't leave room for anything useful, and if there is theres never a good range of anything useful.
Can anyone recomend some good stores, I just want to enjoy the outdoors properly, but commercialism has screwed up. you yanks don't know how lucky you are.
>inb4 online shopping
I prefer to hold and personally check out before I buy the product, things you can do irl that you can't online.
>>607580
Aussie disposals to some extent, maybe. They won't have the same range of stuff and what's there is more likely to be milsurp though obviously. On the overpriced front though, their gear is often a bit cheaper. The ones near where I live often tend to carry maps and stuff like that too.
Gun shops, sporting goods stores and archery pro shops that cater to bowhunters have some general outdoors stuff, but again, limited range compared to the ones you mentioned.
Similarly I envy the Americans - second hand canoes aren't anywhere near as cheap here as they are there and the "Australia tax" & exchange rate re: archery gear is a true pain in the ass.
>>607580
Can you list any stuff you're looking for in particular?
There's a site called Wild Earth which typically has prices cheaper than most.
I think they have a real store too. In Brisbane.
I found this site the other day:
http://www.findsports.com.au
It looks like they have a real warehouse store, but how much of it is on site to have a look at? I don't know. Their prices are also really fucking cheap.
As for handling stuff irl? You've said it. There's no place that's going to have the range of big US chains here.
Have you tried Little Bourke Street in Melbourne and Smith St in Fitzroy?
LB has Bogong, Paddy Pallin, Platatac, Backpacking Light, One Planet, I think a couple of others. Between those you can see a lot of gear irl.
I've not been to Smith St but I think all those guys have their clearance stores there.
Can anyone recommend me a parka like this that is fashionable but still rugged enough for /out/door activities?
>>607819
You're not on the fashion board, son.

>>602439
what the fuck this place exists? SHIT
>>602424
Sounds good to me. 500km is not that much, you won't need to take spare tires. Be sure to get flat-proof tires like schwalbe marathon, though. Always carry enough water and always have bananas with you. Get a micro-fibre towel if you can, they're lightweight and dry super fast.
Also you don't neccessarily need expensive stuff to tour. I toured the netherlands on a supermarket bike with cheapo-panniers. Had no major problems. The one thing you need to put money in is a good an sturdy rack, everything else is luxury.
Ok so /out/ has really gone patch crazy lately and I want them all.
Can we have a central thread with all the patches coming down the pike and links to them all?
As near as I can tell there are at least;
4 Cairn patches
3 picnic bear patches
MGTOW patch
1 bear knife in mouth patch.
Am I missing any?
Anyone have links?
>>608320
I know the pvc picnic bear patches can be bought on the kommando store, and I don't think the cairn patches have been made yet
Pic is what the cairn patch is probably going to look like though, which is good because it looks the best out of all of them imo
>>608320
There's:
2 /out/ bear patches one 2" one 3" which are no longer available
1 Bear on shield with ursa major also no longer available
A guy made a version of the bear with the mora in it's mouth with sc/out/ on it for himself so obviously that's unavailable
Another version of the sc/out/ bear will be up for sale soon along with the bear shield minus the ursa major constellation both are being sold by the same guy
Ivan is selling a round patch /out/ bear in pvc
I think those are the only patches that exist as of now
MGTOW is unlikely to happen because mgtow is a dead end so it makes sense the patch would be too
Cairn kicker may happen but as far as I know no one has made any moves towards production as of yet
2" round patch, not sure if 50 or 100ex
3" round patch ~270ex
PVC round patch. Available, unknown quantity.
Shield patch ursa major 50ex
One unique sc/out/ mora patch
New "sc/out/ mora" and shield patch available soon. 200ex of each I think.
3 or 4 people have said they want to make Cairn kicker. As far as I know, none is making them yet.
Who is hammock master race here?
Pic related is my ENO Double nest Hammock.
>>607318
hammocks are for those with refined taste and good sense. hammocks are practical, comfortable, reasonable, and economical. hammocks enhance the /out/ experience over tents. hammocks help you relax, tents make you tense.
>not posting a pic of YOUR hammock
It's easy to spot a troll thread.
>>607334
Meh, horses for courses.
I live in IN USA and every /out/ spot I go to has plenty of trees to hammock in. Our weather is also pretty easy as well. So around the Midwest in the spring and summer and a good way into fall I mostly hammock camp when I'm out solo.
But out west in places where trees are spotty, like mountains and that dry semi-desert shit? Tents rule. Also when backpacking with either a qt you want to snuggle up with or another dude you don't, tents rule. A good one can go up just as fast or faster than a hammock, don't require trees, and handle weather much better. I can also run a stove in one.
For more than one occupant they are lighter than multiple hammocks and their load can be split up...one guy carries the fabric and cordage, another the poles and stakes, etc.
I also prefer tents when hunting because it is easier to store gear out of the weather. A pack and bow or rifle can sit under he hammock, but the fly supplied with most of them isn't big enough to protect them from and kind of driven precipitation.
Anyway, there is no "master race". Some shit works best in some conditions, different shit in different conditions.
I'm thinking about getting an ESEE 4, are they worth £115. If not suggestions?
Go ahead and get the 5. The 4 isn't anything special.
The Junglass is worth the money.
>>593589
Why would op need to carry a brick who lacks cutting abilities and it's a pry bar instead?
>>593576
The knife is great and will serve you fine. It's a shame they cost so much here in europe, we always get rapped. Americans pay like $85 for that knife which is a great deal, we end paying twice as much, we could get a Survive in 3V steel for that price. If you have a m8 in the US ask him to send it to you.
Anyone have any recommendations on what to put into an Altoid's tin?
What's the best things to keep for a survival tin.

Altoid mints.
"Survival tins" are a meme if they don't have any shelter.
>>595624
Agreed. At the bear minimum you need at least a survival blanket.

Guys I'm going to go fishing off the gulf coast soon in about a month. I've always fished off lakes and rivers, and only been surfing fishing once with some bros. I'm going to be fishing off a pier for a good part of the trip, as well as a boat. Luckily I have an Abu Garcia C4 baitcaster that I use for catfishing, so it's should be good for fishing off a pier. But what kind of rod would be best to pair it with from the surf and the a pier? Any recommended rigs for mackeral or redfish? Is it worth getting a really long landing net if I'm fishing high up from a pier?
Any suggestions for a good fish finder to rig on a sit inside kayak? I'd like to spend no more than $200. I've never used one before.
Also what's the best kind of battery to use in a kayak? Are there any compact batteries specifically for kayaks? Would be great to have something that would let me power other electronics for future upgrades like nav & cockpit lights. Being able to charge a phone out on the water would be really cool too.
