I'm looking for a 1-person tent around the $100 range. My primary concern is ease of setup, weight is somewhat important but not too much, cover against rain is mostly minor concern.

Anything you guys recommend or have experience with?

Leather driving gloves.

Insulation is all about layers of air. The best gloves would be angora wool (a hollow core fibre) with a lamb skin outer. I've got cashmere lining in mine, not quite as nice, but still pretty toasty.
>>
>>636024
This, Arcteryx makes (or used to) some pretty good leather gloves. Cost me an arm and a leg even on clearance, but they've lasted over 5 years with no visible wear. Granted, I live in a temperate rainforest so the temperature rarely dips below -15°C, but they're nice and toasty, apparently good to -30.

God fuckin' damn.

I'd love to go hunting but I'll never hold a gun in this shitty fucking country because I got really fucking drunk at age 17 and was trying to take a shortcut to my house over traintracks proceeded to fall head first on to the fucking rail and when I woke up I was at the police station getting questioned on why I was attempting to kill myself.

Hey /out/ists,

I'm an Australian, and here we have some pretty nasty fauna. Where I live, I might see pic related every couple of days.

>The coastal taipan is the most venomous terrestrial snake in the world.

My question is, can I get some pants that will save my life? I currently wear gaiters and jeans even when it's hot, but I took a hit from a constrictor recently, which went straight through.

So I need something better than jeans. Any thick plastic pants that you guys know of? Basically, if you are bitten by this, you die.

Hi ausfag, where bouts in aus are you? Guessing up north. You could move to NZ we dnt have snakes here.

Do you drink XXXX. Do you sexualise your cousin.
Buy snake repellant and get a city job.

Use shovel;;;; lop off ;;;; head. Turn pretty snakeskin into belt;;;; kill some more and makes pants out of snake sknin ;;;; onky snakes are invincible to other snakes; ;;

You guessed right.

Cairns, Qld.
I've been to the south island multiple times. Hiking. Absolutely loved it. Went swimming naked at icy 1400m, and then rolled around in the undergrowth.

Sounds fucking weird, I know, but I was not bitten once. By so much as an insect.
Also,
>lopping off head makes it no less dangerous.
>>
Hey mate ausfag snake catcher here, like you said our snake can fuck you up but they luckily have tiny fangs compared to other snakes around the world. Good jeans or work pants will be thick enough. Plus the added bonus that our snakes will all try and get the fuck away from you before they bite you.

Why is saltwater fish so much easier than freshwater?

>go out for some drift fishing or trolling at noon
>3 hours later
>catch dozens of flouder and maybe a dozen keepers

>go freshwater fishing with a bud
>leave at like 3am
>12 hours later
>maybe one or two bites and no keepers
>"Hey, man... this was shitty. We didn't catch anything all day."
>bud finishes off his 16th beer
>"HYUK HYUK! DATS NOT DA POINT OF FISHIN!"

Saltwater boats have depth finders, fish finders, charts etc?
When I'm freshwater fishing I ways throw out a second line with live bait

>go freshwater fishing
>catch a dozen lmb
>40 sunfish,crappie,or other panfish

Only time I ever don't catch much is trout fishing. But even then I catch 2 minimum a trip. And a bunch of suckers on my other line
>>
>>634083

>sunfish,crappie,or other panfish

Must be fun catching garbage fish for maw
>>
Saltwayer fishing is boring though. You just sit on a boat and cast, rather than trekking through bush to find a good hole in a river or creek

Its like the difference between getting laid and getting a hooker. Theres no thrill of the hunt, and its way more expensive

Trying to find a good gift to get an /out/ friend of mine. So lets talk about possible /out/-related gifts to get. Post what you want for christmas and what you are planning on getting others.

Basically anything from Light My Fire:

Also can't go wrong with a stainless steel bottle or cup.

Same but now I listen less often. It's too much of the same thing. I stop listening as soon as he gets into some of that bullshit or when he rags on religion.

As for being /out/ approved, sure I'd go hunting with him. I do tune out all his caveman, primitive stuff though.
>>
>>631462
He's got a little bit of that delusion that people who've done too much acid have, but overall he seems like a cool guy who's done more worthwhile things with his fame and money than anyone else in show business except maybe James Cameron. A man who just wants to meditate, chat with his bros on-air, hunt and drive Porsches fast is alright in my book.

Headlamps; worth dishing out a decent dollar for or nah?

I was going to buy a cheap one until I was out with my buddy and he had a really good one, it lit up the whole area we were in and it had different light modes for dimming and different colours of light. Its making me consider getting a comparable one.

Theres one at a MEC near me that runs at around $100 CAD with taxes, which if it lasted a long time is worth it. But at the same time if I can get one for half the price that had a few less features I'd be happy

Wait till the new models come out and pick up last year's when they hit the clearance bin.

I'm personally fond of my Black Diamond Storm and got it for half off ($25) by waiting for the clearance sale.
>>
The big thing to check is the lumen output.
In the last year the cheap ones have gotten really really good.
I bought a walmart one that puts out 150 lumens on high and has the red light for night and it was only 12 buck.
INCLUDING DURACELL BATTS!

The gap is now pretty narrow between the good and bad when there used to be no comparison.

Would a journey on 100 miles in medium currents be doable in a dugout canoe with riggers in open sea be doable?

How long would it take? Would I have to sleep in the canoe?

I have no experiance with open sea canoeing, but plenty of experiance in rivers and rapids.

Also, general boat/canoe/kayak thread.

no they are not in the least seaworthy
>>
>>630227
Not even for a 1-way trip? Would a raft be able to do the trip?
>>
>>630233
you could use two dugout canoes and make it a catamaran, but you better make sure you cover their top so that water can't splosh in.
that would be somewhat seaworthy maybe for a very short trip in good weather.
