Hey /out/ looking for a pair of boots in the 40-90$ range. Ideally, they would be suited for underground use (caving) and for general wear, they would also be fairly lightweight. I'm thinking that a good pair of jungle boots would fit the bill, but I can't seem to find any decent ones.
thanks senpai
>>625148
look for either GI ones, Altama ones or Wellco ones, all of those are definetly rather good.
Stay away from the Rothco brand boots though, they're nothing but shit
Rangers Mle 52 --26$

How durable are these? Do the soles wear out easily?
Got a favorite?
yosemite, no question
that being said, it is really upsetting how many fucking people are there at all months of the year
Big Bend
Only one I've been to :/
zion is nice too, actually, all utah parks are fucking great
arches is a little touristy, but what can you do
what do you think about the effects of nature on creativity?
>>645283
Too bad it doesn't effect talent as much as it does creativity, huh?
A couple friends of mine, both hardcore survivalists have offered to take me along with them when they go out into the Tetons for a month or two in the winter. I really want to go with them, but I have zero experience surviving in the wild, and surviving on a windy mountain in -60 degree weather in the coldest spot in the US sounds a tad bit insane. These guys know what they're doing, they've been doing it every year- Would I be able to survive with them and learn, or would I just be dangerous dead weight? One of them is a blackfoot native with a crazy amount of hunting tags who's been doing this his entire life, and so is the other, minus the blackfoot and the hunting tags. I really want to do this, but I also don't want to be a popsicle. Any advice?
Pic related is the mountain range.
they invited you along to eat you.
>>644833
If they're your friends, then consult them about how to prepare, what gear you'll need, etc. That being said I would highly recommend against making your first backcountry experience take place in such an extreme environment.
>coldest spot in the US
>It was -79.8°F - rounded off to -80°F - observed at Prospect Creek Camp in the Endicott Mountains of northern Alaska on Jan. 23, 1971.
A Finn recommended Marttiini knives to me for hunting. Does /out/ have any experience with them?
Scandi grinds are good for beginners to sharpen.
>>644511
>Marttiini
Is good but it is the tourist tier of finish knives.
>>644511
The knives are ok
But the sheaths suck
The belt loop is not strong and can break at the pivot point,
No snap, nothing to lock the blade in the sheath. Means the knife can come out when walking,
I've literally just got into kayak fishing. I bought a Emotion Spitfire 8 and it seems to be okay for my purposes. A rod holder is a must though. Anyone else into kayak fishing? Pic related. It's me.
Yeah I kayak fish quite often in the summer, a few times a week if possible,
I'm hoping to get out one more time this season
>>641391
I feel like I've fucked up some because I got my first kayak during winter, but ftw.
good luck mate
What are some good snowshoes under $300?
Bumping for interest.
25" MSR Accend w/modular snow tails might come in <$300.
> best there is

Pic related.
I'm talking stuff you are actually bringing with you, not just hunting/foraging for in the wilderness. This could be the obvious things like seasonings/herbs/vegetables you've grown and dried, but also stuff like emergency/supplemental rations in case you can't find enough food in the wild. (pic related, Hardtack from 2008)
Here's some examples,

One of the things I like to bring are bags of instant soup. I grow a lot of vegetables and mushrooms in my garden and dry a great deal of them ( >>634583 ). With those and some homemade pasta I'll bag up various types of soups and stews I can make from dehydrated vegetables and their powders.
What do you take along with you on your wilderness adventures, /out/?
>>639687
Hardtack, Beef Jerky, Pemmican (with blueberries man, shits so good), bar of dark chocolate, instant oatmeal, dried beans, rice, bouillon cubes, MREs sometimes. Not all of this shit at once, but I always bring hardtack and Pemmican, they make a pretty good stew type thing if you mix them in water.
>>639695
I make deer jerky form time to time. It is really difficult not to eat it all in one sitting. It is so delicious.
>>639687
pretty sure thats nelix
What is your drug of choice while /innawoods/? (Alcohol included)
A big bag of ganja!
rather have a bag of weed over anything else.
Alcohol is always welcome.
Other than that, magic mushrooms are best savoured whilst innawoods
Last time I took and E camping I was rolling around on the floor and broke my spectacles
Depends on the type of adventure. Psychedelics are cool if its just an afternoon out with some friends and supplies are /casualmode/. For really going innawoods, I stay sober for the most part, but I'll bring some joints when I hunt. Most drugs dull my senses too much for survival mode.
I went outside once, it was awful.
>>636507
well you should get used to it, and maybe even get to enjoy it. when you die you'll spend the rest of eternity outside, in one form or another.
it's gonna be great
>>636507
Same
I figured this was the best board to ask this since I've seen threads about first aid kits before.
I'm looking for a first aid kit that goes in the trunk of a car as a Christmas gift for my sister.
I would like to give her something above a spartan basic kit because she's a registered nurse.
I don't know what to look for. Links or models to search are very welcome. Budget is $20 - $30 burgerbucks
I don't have the link now, but I will in a few hours. Mini jump bags to keep in your car.
>>635391
Don't know that you could get much more than a basic kit for that budget. Maybe just get one of the cheap ones with bandaids and whatnot in it, then buy some extra pieces yourself to put in it. Some things you could add: liquid bandage, quickclot, steristrips, compression bandage.

Thanks anon
So I bought this little gem off eBay and I love the fucking thing. As i admire the simplicity of it and because it recommended to me from here I ask: What changes have you made to your packs? Doesn't even have been the LK35, I'm looking for ideas for changes in general. Show them here.
ALICE Kidney pad. They're like 5-10 bucks on ebay. I paid 11.95 shipped. I need to properly tighten mine up but even loose it's nice and comfy. Follow MCQBushcraft on this one.

I was recently out with someone who had one. He hated it, said it was too heavy, and didn't fit right, kept jabbing him in places. It may have been adjusted wrong, I don't know, just relaying what I was told.
>>626000
Nice GET. If the pack is loaded down a ton and there's no kiidney pad on it it can be a bit rough, but compared to other metal frames I've used the LK35 frame is fine. If his experience is with non-metal frames then yeah he's gonna hate it until he gets used to it. The kidney pad completely resolves this issue and it just straps right on.
ITT:BACK PACKERS
Anyone here backpacked for an extended period of time what did you learn and what was your plan?
>>644603
No
Nothing
Didn't have one
>>644603
>what was your plan?
To get caught.
I've backpacked for a five weeks before. I've done several trips that were three or four weeks long as well. When backpacking for a long time you learn how little you really need. People are also generally very nice and will do amazing things for you without being asked. On the five week trip we backpacked through Scotland, Wales, and England (I'm American). We would eat in a pub most nights.
Ive been subscribed to this board lately and i tkink i ran across one of them things destroying the purity of nature. Just curious was this one of those cairn things?
Restored to its natural beauty altho the damage the cairn builders did is still evident
You are a good man anon.
Thank you for your service.
>>644359
>the damage the cairn builders did is still evident
If it's an area you frequent then each time you go, pick up a rock and try to put it back where it looks like it belongs. Leaving the pile makes it easy for hippie vandals to reconstruct
Innawoods Snapchat thread. Last one went pretty good. Post your Snapchat name and your area if you like to snap outdoors. I'm in the San Francisco bay area I go on a lot of hikes around here. My username is LSD.ecstasy

Legit the last one sucked and deleted everyone. Fuck that super autist from whos natural boards seem to be /k/ an /mlp/ who always was posting pictures of his fuckugly girlfriend instead of anything /out/ related. Legit he posted a photo of them camping... Under some fucking power lines.
>>643458
why does everyone here say 'innawoods' ive been coming to this board for over a year and i still have no fucking clue. its quite possible the most annoying thing people do here. i feel like a fucking idiot for even posting the question
why not just say 'in the woods'
jesus fuck.
