In Baja there are many places along the coast that you go get to via dirt road and camp on the beach for free and no one cares.
Are there any places in America like this?
Anywhere in the gulf states?
Maybe Mississippi ?
Would like to have some /out/ beach time this winter.
Also , general beach camping.

Cape lookout of the coast of NC. You can ferry your car out and camp right on the beach. Didnt camp but spent the day there last year. Beautiful undeveloped beaches. Most people just go to see the lighthouse so if you get away from the ferry pier dropoff (near the before mentioned lighthouse) there isnt many people. Im dying to go back and camp for at least a week. Lying around the beach and fishing. Would like to kayak out from harkers island. That way I can fish around the shackleford banks as well.

Best hiking backpacks?
thinking about getting the Osprey Men's Aether 60 Backpack
Im thinking about getting this one.
>>641848
Love the Osprey stuff, got a couple myself and probably won't buy another brand unless my next pack is just shoddy.
Some really good features, well thought out, well built, light and comfy. Everything you need and not TOO expensive.
Got the Osprey Atmos 65 AG backpack
Anybody ever go walking through forests at night and see spooky shit?
A while ago I saw a white light moving through the forest. It seemed to be glowing and was moving steadily, not swinging around or moving like a torch. It came towards me then turned and went away and dissapeared.
I've also seen weird red lights in the sky over the forest that were not airplanes since they were moving in slow circles. I dont go out at night anymore though.
>>650819
That would be the moon. You need to /out/ more.
>>650822
It was moving around at tree level.
I'm wondering, might it have been somebody with Nv goggles? Do those things have lights on them?
>>650823
Unless you can IR, no. May have been some other type of headlamp, but my guess is that it was just a subconscious manifestation of your fear of the unknown. The brain is a powerful thing, and can do strange things when stressed.
>Going /out/ to a place without trees
It's like you want it to be shit. Smh tbqh family
I don't usually come to this board, but I need my stupid question answered.
Aunt was giving away shit and I saw this knife. Is it okay to use for outdoors? The blade doesn't seem too sharp.
t. knows nothing about knives
As long as it's sharp and comfortable to hold, it should be fine. You don't have to worry about rust that much, since it's stainless, but don't let it stay wet. Make sure to always keep the blade clean and sharp.
knife/10

Just sharpen it and don't push the blade too hard, it's not a hatchet
Cabin life
Post pictures
Plans
Blueprints
Experience
Etc
Also requesting that one anon who made his own tiny cabin and posted pics a year aho
Assuming I wanted to make a cabin that had wooden beams in every corner, would I need foundations? Did cabins or other historic wooden buildings have foundations? Wouldn't the posts just rot out in 100 years?
maybe the iron age farm guy who posts on here can answer.
>>647094
Planning on a dirt floor?
If not I would pour cement posts. Then do wood. From 18 inches above the ground up to help with rotting
My new project...Tiny camper home...
Hello /out/, I am currently walking the Palmetto trail it is 3 o'clock p.m. and I would like your help to not let me die throughout the night. Will post pics

Do I need a 4 season tent if it's just cold as balls but not much snow where I plan to camp? Most things I see about them mention that they're good for shit tons of snow, but if I have a good -20 bag or similar, are they that important?
>>649940
4 season tents serve a few purposes, but they don't necessarily keep you "warmer. these tents typically have sturdy poles, thicker material, less open venting (less mesh net material to let in blowing snow) and stronger tie down points. They're designed for winter, this usually means heavy winds, heavy snow loads. Sometimes 4 season can be known as mountain or mountaineering tents.
However, the kind of tent you use in winter depends on the location and weather where you are playing. Below tree line in the mtns in winter I use the BD mega mid for weight savings.
If you're going to just camp and there is no worry for snow or wind, just use any old tent.
>>649978
Average snowfall for where I plan to camp is less than half an inch a day in the winter, like I said it just gets stupid cold because lol mountains. Thanks for the info, so if I'm smart about where I pitch the tent for wind and have a good rainfly I should be good?
>>649983
No. You will be miserable because its fucking cold outside and you will be cold. Report back on your suffering dumbass
Ok winter is here and I am hating it.
xmas is my most hated time of year and I have a week off.
I am south of Denver and want to get somewhere warm and awesome to camp.
Do have a very small RV.
Where would you go /out/?
>>645958
Monument Valley.
Not too far, warmer and amazing!
>>645958
death valley
>>645958
I live in Denver too, learn to keep warm in the snow and camping becomes more enjoyable, at least for me.
These douchenozzles from Michigan Gone Wild
Posted a video of a guy clearly illegally snagging salmon while fly fishing.
Fact: when youre making a video about fishing you don't put your body between the fish and the camera to hide the fact that you're removing a hook from the dorsal fin or back of salmon
Fact: salmon rarely take a lire or fly when they have been spawning several days
these fat fucks are trying to profit from illegally snagging and/or flossing salmon

We must save all the fish for the native americans. Palefaces and darkskins must not starve us just for sport
Ausfag here, I've been into urban exploration for awhile and I'm looking for more places to explore, any suggestions or stories you're willing to share?
>>645048
If you're in Melbourne you should check out the Nylex building before it's demolished. I've been meaning to do it but none of my other friends are keen.
>>645048
If you're in Adelaide you should check out bunch of underground tunnels around the CBD
Belgianfag here. Same desire, same problem. Any chance a fellow urbexer can help an aspiring one out?
Taking my fist trip to padre island national seashore to camp and fish.
Any suggestions from those that have been?
Pic unrelated
Used to work there.
Do you have 4 wheel drive? The best spots are down island past at least the 20 mile marker. The channel at the 60 is really pretty too.

Also:
Don't drive in the surf or on seaweed mats. You could get stuck and the tide changes rapidly, before someone could get there to tow you out (which costs thousands of dollars) your car could get flooded by sea water and ruined. The salt water will also completely eat your undercarriage.
Don't drive in the dunes or on the salt flats. It takes centuries for them to go back to normal and kills the organisms that call those places home.
If you've got a dog, keep an eye on him. We have coyotes that are genetically distinct from your average coyote. They're bigger and meaner. Keep your food locked up too.
Besides that, the stars are amazing and the seashore can be magnificent or ugly as hell. You might also find some neat sea trash. If you're feeling nice, you can get bags from the visitor center and help clean up all the beach garbage that washes on shore.
Ever run around in the woods naked?
Yes
>>649421
For some reason whenever I see a waterfall I have an urge to stand under it naked. I have done this on more than one occasion when I was either alone or just with my wife. Tried to get the misses to join me once but she was to scared some other hikers might come by and catch us fucking under the waterfall. One day I will convince her.
>>649421
It's a pretty great experience. Supposedly makes your testosterone increase.
Hello /out/, I'm sorry that this is going to be a very newbie question that you are probably tired of answering over and over, but I'm not sure where else to go to ask. I have never actually been /out/ (except at sea) before, and would like to try doing something as I will have a chunk of free time in the coming weeks.
However having never been out I really don't know where to start, I tried the sticky, but the links under camping were fairly vague and seemed to mostly apply to the UK for instance they said wild camping was illegal, but I don't think it is entirely illegal here, or at least I am hoping it isn't. so I thought I'd ask you anons my questions based on my situation(again sorry if they are stupid.)
Anyway, my questions are as follows
1. As someone of limited means, and as someone who is not an /out/doorsman, what would you say is the least amount of/cheapest total cost of gear I could buy and be fine with for a short (2-7 day) stay in the woods? Do I really need a tent or would a hammock/sleeping bag and/or a tarp be just as good? What do I need to splurge on and what can I save on? Bare essentials, that sort of stuff.
2. I am a USA fag, specifically CA, I heard someone here talk about how the laws change a lot based on who's authority the land falls under and can be very different even if it is all public land? Do you have any simple guides or resources that explain what these differences are? I tried a few googles but only found some information on some of the types of land.
I would also appreciate any other advice or warnings you could give. Like for instance if the idea of going out "wild camping" would likely end up with me dead because I don't know enough of what I'm doing. Or non obvious stuff like that I need to bring a water filter, or need a permit to have a camp fire.
Buy at REI and return, or buy cheapo at big 5 and keep until it breaks.
Yes, one does simply walk innawoods. Near which city do yiu live? If we're talking Norcal, I always recommend point reyes for first timers. It isn't free though.
>>649084
>Buy at REI and reture or buy cheapo
Sorry but buy what specifically? A good sleeping bag and a roll or the whole shebang, tent and everything associated with it?
>Which city do you live near
Near Palo alto.
>Point reyes
I will check it out, thanks anon.
$5 to $40 for a tent at Walmart or yard sale
$20 sleeping bag at Walmart, or bring blankets
Sawyer mini filter $20 unless you are camping near your car
Whatever backpack you already have
For less than $100 you have everything you need to go sit in the woods.
A proper setup to hike 7 days on the Appalachian trail or PCT can be had for about $1000 with topnotch equipment and would probably weigh the same as the $100 setup but have 5 times as much stuff of very high quality and utility
Hey /out/ how yall doing?
Ive been starting to get into hiking lately and have a trip planned to backpack in Europe in Feb. I was wondering what you all would recommend for a decent pair hiking/snow boots? Ill be in Kiruna, Sweden for 2 days to see the northern lights and will be going from Sweden down to Berlin, London and finally Spain for around a month. I'm looking some for shoes that will keep my feet dry, warm comfortable and that would look okay when im in the city as well. Any suggestions?
I've had several pairs of Salewas now and they've treated me well.
Really it 's all about fit though. Check out some in person and try them on. Lowa, Asolo, Keen, Vasque, Scarpa and La Sportiva all make quality boots for hiking. There's a lot of other options that may also work for you though.
If you're doing a lot of snow travel you may consider mountaineering boots which generally have some insulation and are crampon compatible.
Don't be a faux stylish hipster insufferable cunt in uncomfortable boots you faggot. Just wear your normal footwear
>>648482
Lol I would but I'm from California and last time I checked Vans are not snow/water proof. Figured if I could find shoes that can multitask it would save me money and space in my pack.
