So...I'm back on here after a years trip in the UK and what happened?
What's with all these r9k threads?
You do realize people from r9k don't go out, right? They're just shitposting from their rooms, why did we let these people take over?

God, there's a lot of pedophillic homo-eroticism in that painting.

Hey, /out/. I am building a camping/survival kit in a waterproof crate in the bed of my truck, and I am almost finished, I just need advice for what is the best multi-purpose rope I can purchase.
Multi-purpose as in hanging a tarp/hammock, and hoisting sacks of food or equipment off of the ground, etc. What do you think?
Also rope thread
3/4 inch 2500 lb mule tape.
>>652183
I found some on eBay for pretty cheap, would this be advisable to buy it from there or should I get it from a Gander Mountain/Academy instead? I don't believe it would matter, but I am relatively new to equipment knowledge.
>>652184
Mule tape comes in different widths and strength ratings. As long as it's the size and strength you need and is labeled on the tape then I don't think it matters where you get it.
How hard is it live /out/ in the winter in western washington?
the coast? shouldn't be any snow so it's gotta be easier than 80% of the world
For you, impossible

Iunno, i grew up in rural Oregon. Pretty used to cold and wet, just never had to live in it.
When was the last time you skated outdoors? On a natural or artificial surface?
Bonus points for playing hockey

I fully understand and agree that recreational bike riding is a healthy and practical thing to do. But why do adults look so awkward when they ride bikes?

Try again?

We'll in that photo, the bike is way too small for him. His posture is shit and he looks like a noon because of it.

Anyone have any experiences camping in NJ during the off season?
My buddies and I want to hike the BATONA for a little bit during the beginning of January.
Now, it seems like this dude https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0xEZ4oSMfQ is able to just kinda camp where ever he needs to, but we just went back there for a walk last night and ran into a ranger who wouldn't believe we weren't up to shenanigans.
Are we gonna be able to camp for free if we move each night?
It's not just a money thing, it's not all that expensive, but I don't want to really be beholden to a schedule like I'd be if I paid and reserved each site. (And it's not gonna be possible to visit the Ranger Station each day if we wanna go the whole trail.)
We'd only need the site for one night, for three of us, maybe two tents and a fire.
Think we can get away with it? Or should I bend over and let myself be beholden to a schedule?
Are you seriously asking if you will be arrested for camping at a campsite?
Hi!
I've never hiked the batona before, but I used to camp and 4wheel out there a bit.
About 2 years ago most of the campsites went to reserveamerica, which is a horrible company and they charge a ton of money. Also, the campsites are really not located conveniently for a hike. I'd say pack light and plan to stealth it out, people do it and get away. There are plenty of rangers up there though, so just be aware of that. I wouldn't set up camp until dusk.
I've camped there in December at the paid sites, and it can get cold, but not too bad.
Have fun, and take pictures.

Also, if you're willing to travel a little bit, Delaware Water Gap is top notch, but it gets much colder at night. You can camp on the AT there in the off season, it goes right through the national park or whatever.
Pic related, Delaware river 1 mile north of where the AT crosses over.
What's the best material for a base layer to keep warm, but at the same time won't make me sweat buckets? Is wool/merino wool still king, or is bamboo (or some other alternative) better?
>>647035
i'm pretty loyal to synthetic/polypro
Merino.
Best combo is these sexy net shirts. On its own it will keep you cool and wick moisture faster. Add a thicker layer and the net construction will help hold air = keep you warm.

This, no need to buy the expensive itchy woolen long john silvers.
Can we get an /out/ recommended reading thread?

Is Walden a meme?
Even though I'm almost 30 now I still read "The Hatchet" and "Brian's winter" at least once every couple years.
Hey /out/ does anyone know what kind of plant this is?
Sorry for sideways pic, dont know why it is

Do you like dogs, OP?
Might be a nice compromise.

First of all, stop being a frogposter. Nobody likes frogposters.
I was invited to spend a few days in the woods by a friend and want to know if I should do it. It's a girl, so maybe we can skip the accusations of homosexuality right off. It's in NC near the mountains on private property, but I don't know if I should do it. I'd have to buy some supplies and it's kind of a spur of the moment thing. She mentioned hunting too, so I either buy camouflage or just not give a damn and just enjoy time with a girl and let the actual hunting go second. I planned on taking my rifle either way for protection, so there's that.
I've been wanting an adventure but have limited options around me, but this seems like a good idea in a way. I am hesitant to accept and commit to it though, and I don't really know why.
Should I do it? If I don't do it will I regret it? I don't usually do things like this but I have wanted to for the longest time.
>>653397
you're the one who brought up homosexuality. You almost seem disappointed it's a girl. Or is it a "girl"?
As to the gear, how about asking her? "Hey about the outdoors thing, what gear should I bring?"
Yeah sure do it it sounds fun
>>653397
>a girl literally invites you to spend several nights in the woods all alone
>nestled tightly in a tent, no doubt
>opportunity to shoot things with a top tier gun-loving waifu material
>can feel like a primal alpha male providing for your woman in your hunt
>protecting her with a rifle in hand all the while
>"nyeehhh, I don't know if I should do it, myehhh"
Dude. You're so gay even He-Man frowns at you. So gay Tumblr came up with at least two brand new terms to describe how gay you are. You're so gay you fart glitter and cry hair gel. When the sole fact of your existence inevitably sparks an invention of a scientific measure of gayness, the measuring unit will be named after you. You so gay, even with the lights on and balls not touching at all it's still gay with you, that's just how immeasurably, improbably, unbelievably but morbidly impressively GAY you are. OP's of the most sodomistic, degenerate threads on both /hm/ and /y/ pale in comparison to you. I have made a screencap already, for lord knows I have witnessed a miracle of gay today. In fact.. I think I started to like dick just by reading that post. I'll go find one to suck right now. Goodspeed, OP, you glorious winged faggot.

So where have you been in Norway, what do you recommend and what is worth seeing?
Bumping for interest.
When I visit I don't get out of Oslo much. I've been in Folldal, which had beautiful landscapes but I couldn't tell you where to hike.
