Hello i was linked from a pol thread here and i was wondering what you guys like doing outside?
I like going fishing
pic semi related
Mainly fishing and hunting, I also do some gardening and camping/hiking occasionally. I've got a fishing trip planned for this Saturday with a friend of mine, we're going to take the boat out on a nearby lake that neither of us have fished before, should be a good time.

Idk why, but from the thumbnail it kinda looked like a used condom.
Also fishing.

Hi fellow sc/out/s,
Seeing all the patch threads got me thinking... would anyone want an /out/ t-shirt? I've bought and made custom t-shirts before and have done some research into which site would be good to use that would allow relatively cheap international shipping... I'm not looking to make a profit and would be very transparent about the process, but first I want to gauge if there'd even be any interest.
Pic related is a tri-blend (50% Polyester / 25% Cotton / 25% Rayon) brown shirt with the potential /out/ graphic (unless you guys would want something else).
Huh, maybe. It's typically the kind of deal where the more shirts you order, the cheaper each one is, right? Dunno if I'd pay $30 to publicly declare myself an /out/ist.
>>714931
So that's the thing--I can set the base price to be cheap, and then hope that enough gets ordered to bring the price down so I'm not selling at a loss. I've done the math and if there's over 100 orders placed, the base cost can be $13 per shirt, which is about as much as people have paid for a patch here.... Obviously if I set the base cost higher, to like $15, we don't have to wait for 100+ /out/ists to buy it...
forgot to add: $3.99 shipping to US, $12.50 all international (no shipping to Morocco, Algeria, Jordan nor Tunisia). Hence why I'm trying to keep shirt cost as minimal as it can be.
What kind of sword do you carry in the bush? Do you prefer a spear instead?
Well sword goes better aesthetically with my fedora and fingerless leather gloves.
Spear goes better with my wool cape and vibram five fingers.
My favourite of course is my thousand folded wakazashi as it's a good balance between size/weight and utility, you know for dealing with those pesky skin walkers.
>>714905
I use a machete to clear light brush innawoods sometimes, does that count as a "sword"?
>>714909
I carry a machete too for utility but sometimes autism out and role play with myself running through the woods attacking trees pretending they're people.
>Have no dad, little experiencing fishing and no experiencing camping
>Mid 20s, decide to take things into my own hands
>Buy a crab pot on sale fr $10
>Successfully catch 2 swimmer crabs
>Clean, cook and eat them
>Pleased with myself
>Go out again the next night
>Leave my pot out for a few hours
>Go back at sunrise
>Rope cut
>Pot stolen
I bet I caught something too...
Fun while it lasted I guess, I might get another one and try and catch some mud crabs next time
You caught the crab king he took your pot as tribute.
>>714829
I have no dad as well and know nothing about the world, just like you. It becomes draining to figure out everything by yourself, because it takes a long time to understand things. Hopefully, with internet, you can speed up a bit thanks to tutorials.
>book 5-day 74 mile permit through the Smokies starting this Saturday the 19th
>check weather around where I'm going

My sleeping bag has a zipper that has come undone, and now it appears to be an imperative for me to get it fixed within the next two days. Where do I go to do this? With school I don't have the time to go on Youtube and do DIY. Also, should I bring my GoreTex boots or trail runners?
Starting a 3-night loop near clingmans the following week, looks peachy. Sunday will get hairy but just wear layers and get lots of water protection for your gear and body. Keep a set of dry base layer just for sleeping in. You'll be fine. I'm jealous, I'd love to wake up to snow during my trip
>>714882
I have a 100L rain cover, a Marmot waterproof jacket and REI waterproof pants so I'm set in that regard. Should I stick to the GoreTex boots though, in your opinion?
>>714888
yea dude, sleep with them in your tent in case you weren't already planning on it. have fun. be aware though that the weather predictions are usually for the more populated areas. once one gets up on the mountains it can be considerably colder than predicted. jus sayin.
New York Metro area; slightly north of NYC - where are the nicest closest areas to just walk the fuck outside in wilderness without people around to bother you.
>>714673
there's some state land down there. google and dec.ny.gov is your friend.
>>714673
The tri-state border there apparently has some good semi-wild forests that you might want to check out.
If you want true isolation, you've gotta head upstate.
>>714680
this
get your ass to the adirondacks
it's only like a hundred bucks round trip from the city iirc
Hey /out/.
There must be some people around here that can't be satisfied with Google Maps/Earth satellite maps.
I was wondering if there would be a way to obtain recent-ish, high resolution (1m or better) sattelite maps (of a small area) without paying a few $k (free, preferably).
Does something like this exist for a common citizen like me, or am i just looking for something unrealistic?
bumping cause I want to know also. Garmin birdseye cost $$$ and is no better than Google

Check your local govt. My state's (AZ) game and fish has a GIS service with satellite/map/watershed etc. Info. Also CalTopo has several different map types and I used to make a personalized map for my last hunting trip

Suggest your favourite usable plants like spices vegetables and so on to plant in the new garden/greenhouse
>>714207
So you are telling me i have to read 300 reps of fucking shit nonsence to get answer to my question knowing there is none of them? So maybe make 5 threads one for knives one for man purses and garden and gay and shit....
>>714207
and never make any others ever again because thats all /out/ is about? knife generals n shit?
What's the best baitcasting reel out there . and baitcasting reel combos.
>>714091
Best? Probably the most expensive one.
I have a couple Abu Garcia memecasters. I think next will be a Daiwa Tatula. I have heard lots of good things about it and the prices aren't ridiculous.
>best reel
Megabass anything, steez, aldebaran, calcutta conquest
>best rod
Nrx, zbone, steez, pretty much any high end jdm shit
>>714129
Never heard of Megabass. Their shit sure is expensive.
Damn the Steez stuff looks nice though. Would definitely buy a Steez combo if I had an extra $1500 to spend on a rod and reel.
Let's see the jewelry/tools/clothes you've made yourself recently.
Here's a pendant I made from a flint arrowhead which I think is really old. I made the rawhide myself, did a shitty job but the weave is my own design. Spare bootlace for the string seemed appropriate.
I'll bite.
Here's a Nalhus I made from a turkey thighbone to keep my sewing kit in.
>>714355
That's dope, yo. I might try this. Where do you get your rawhide?
>>714355
>Ebin.jpg
I have to make one. I'm going to make one.
Plen here, I've backpacked the AT both south (Nantahala) and north (Pisgah) of the Great Smoky Mountain Park grounds, but never through the park itself: I am fully aware that you need a permit to camp or backpack anywhere within the park grounds; however, I am completely on-the-fence as to whether I will go for a 4-5 day & night trek through it for Spring Break (which is starting this Saturday). If it isn't too late to purchase the permit (I don't even know if this is done by mail or can be done instantly or electronically), could I get away with backpacking without it?
Should be able to buy it online and print it out. It's how I get my fishing and hunting permits. Should be the same way
I went on the site and it looks like you can reserve up to the day you go.
they e-mail you the permit. you need to print and carry with you.
https://smokiespermits.nps.gov/index.cfm?BCPermitTypeID=1
good luck anon.
I highly recommend a trip in the Smokies, but
the A.T. during spring break is probably not the best time.
Permits were once mostly straightforward and free, but no longer. the park service has strong-armed a new policy into place in 2013 despite huge opposition from the local communities.
Hey /out/, what's the best product that filters water? Preferably, one that is easy to move around with too. Normally I would just google this to get multiple opinions, but I've noticed a lack of content on filtering water. Also, as a more rookie-ish side comment, if you're /out/ with no water, the best place to drink water is from a river, right? Are there any other spots that are acceptable in which drinking water from it won't make you sick? I assume this is the right place to post this question.
>>713507
The Katadyn pocket (pic related) looks really high quality. They're like $400 though.
Most people get Lifestraws or Sawyer mini's
>>713519
We had these at camp mowglis and I can honestly say you can suck water out of the ugliest and murkiest of puddles. Many a times wed hike up to a stream expecting it to be roaring, only to find it entirely depleted. These things saved entire trips.
If you know the area / flood patterns really well a life straw will be more than enough.
This weekend is regionals!
I am so excited about the southern chapter of the ISA annual tree climbing championship!
Probably technically belongs in /asp/, but those guys are faggots and I don't post there.
I know there are a few tree guys here. Any of you ever check out these competitions?
There's such a thing as competitive tree climbing?? I would kick ass at that
>>713466
Nvm I just googled it. I was picturing like dirty white kids with dreads and bare feet seeing who could climb the highest. Not even close..
>>713466
Do it. I never work. I play in trees for a living and get paid pretty well.
I guess I can find some relevant links to post.
He worst part about MTB is the amount of soft plastics they give you. I don't have much use for most of these a majority of the year and am wondering if you guys have any tips on organization of them so I don't have to just jam them all in the pocket on top of my tackle box
>>713172
I used a Dremel to cut out sections of 3700 boxes so the bags fit better. Sharp razor blade would also work.
But that box has long since overflowed so I just throw them into the pocket of my bag now. I would just combine them into lesser bags but at least with PowerBait, the colors can bleed into eachother.
>>713172
be nice and decide to give them out to some anons who ant necessarily afford getting mtb if you dont use themm
>>713172
yeah, send them to me.
I used to catch the Obscure Birdwing Grasshopper as a hobby and serious excercise (for reasons I'll explain), raising them in cages for eventual backyard release (I live in a forested area). And these bugs can fly across a field's worth distance. You have to catch them with the first net swing, and trust me, you'll be running after them for a while before you get good. You have to move slowly through the vegetation, waiting for them to make a mistake.
I got so good I caught ten females and several males in one spot.
Any area with high vegetation is the best spot to go after them. They have a tendency to crash into the plants, giving you the best chance to catch them again. They will breed in captivity.
>>713154
I raised and bred Madagascar Hissing cockroaches (just one left, I sold most of the colony to pet stores), Mealworms, Flour Beetles (from mealworms), I even used to have a leech. And some leaf eating Stick Insects.
>>713154
Currently studying Entomology in grad school. I've bred crickets and hissing cockroaches before and I have experience pinning and butterfly wing spreading.
I think I might try my hand at breeding some tarantulas.
You'd find more anons with similar interests on /an/ OP, I don't think this thread really belongs here
