Still contemplating committing sudoku after losing whatever it was that ran two of my lures into the weeds today. Need to get on some fresh Blue Foxes now but nowhere near me carries much of a selection.
HatcheryAnon says CT waters are hot for them pickles and pre-spawn bass, Mainebub coming through with the Colorado fishing report tomorrow. Texas anon will have that rod and reel chart one day I hope.
Question from end of last thread- does anybody use those Zoom (or similar soft plastic company) frogs? If so, any success? How do you rig them? I'm thinking they may be worth trying for snakeheads but the only frogs I ever run are the typical weedless ones and I haven't had much luck.

actually fish were finickey af today, only 10 fish over 3-4 hours of fishing
yesterday i got 13 plus a bunch of missed fish (10+)
i think it was because it got cold af last night
Question for my fellow braid users- when doing a leader strictly for visibility purposes, how long do you normally go?
I do ~3' most of the time. This rod has 10lb moss green on it anyway, I really should be tying a leader to the one with 15lb red line.
Fishing Forecast: April 28, 2016
It's a bluefish bonanza going on in New Jersey! Shops across the region are reporting numerous catches with some fish weighing into the high teens.
Long Island anglers are finding the local waters full of bait. The predators are hungry and following their prey; stripers, bluefish, and even weakfish are being caught in the shallows.
Farther north in New England, Rhode Island's tautog bite is heating up and the light-tackle striped bass action has picked up in the Connecticut tidal rivers. In Massachusetts, schoolie stripers have made it all the way up to the North Shore!
How do you walk silently through the woods?
I have been wondering about this for a while, and the other day when I was /out/ hiking in the national forest close to my house, I was questioning if it was even possible.
I can't walk through any section that isn't rocks or a pre-established path without sounding like I'm just crashing through every branch and undergrowth in the entire damn forest.
So how do you guys walk silently or at least quietly through leafy woods?
I wear crocs, they're not silent but a good style to noise ratio.
Be low to the ground and roll your feet
Stick to the trees, human.

Not OP, but from the tress and such, likely the north side of the Alps somewhere.
Anyone have any experience doing s.t.a.l.k.e.r challenges or anything similar? Im very interested in doing one.

Hey /out/, I don't spend much time here but you guys have a lot of common interests with /k/ and this is very relevant to the outdoors. So, long story short I'm building a Campground and target range out in Nevada this summer. I'll post some pictures so you have an idea of what the 80 acres I own looks like.
I have some planned projects listed on the website www.arkadiaranch.com so you can kind of see the direction we're heading in. Feel free to share your thoughts and ideas so I can help improve upon what I already have in mind.
What suggestions do you have for someone building a Campgrounds? What would you want to see out there? What sort of attractions or amenities would make it more appealing?
>>732060
More pics incoming.
>>732061
As you can see, there is literally nothing there at the moment. Just barren Northern Nevada desert.

You wake up naked in an unfamiliar wilderness (boreal forest) with only four of these items
How do you proceed?
naked dude x4

Boots, knife, soda and tarp.
I would be focused on getting out of there as soon as possible, so boots to help with speed, soda bottle to avoid having to find water as often. The tarp would help in case I couldn't find my way out in one day and could also be turned into rudimentary clothing with the knife and some sort of natural fastener. Knife because of all the reasons a knife would want a knife.
Night and temperature would be challenging, but with a pick of only four items on this list and no guaranteed of procuring needed natural resources, I'd probably die rather fast anyway.

Then why didn't you pick cellphone and call a rescue team you dumb nigger.
Urban exploration here. The place seems oddly deserted should I continue?

OK mate I will try to get deeper in this place :)
Does anyone here tan hides? I've gone out shooting and seen lots of rabbits and was hoping to start killing and cooking them, but was wondering if anyone here has any methods they recommend that are cheap-ish and straight forwards to preserving the hide. I'm hoping to get something similar to the pictured pelt.

I'm the Rhinelander, but with the sheer amount of neophytes everywhere this doesn't have to say much (just that it's unlikely to be something tropical, as it grew there last year too therefore over-wintered in the root)
>>743356
Reminds me of a sort of mint (but different-looking, see pic) growing on the river in a sometimes flooded area, which grows there in masses and I thought "oh nice let's collect some for tea" but it turned out tasting awful, almost petrol-like. Judging from where it grows and how it looks like it was probably Mentha aquatica
Hey /out/, new here but a lover of most things /out/doors, my favourite being travelling to and staying in Bothies, has anyone else ever been to a Bothy here? I'm sure there must be a few of you so please share experiences, what gear and food you bring, anything at all!
Picture: Staoineag Bothy, been 3 times

I don't have anything to contribute but that must have been amazing OP. looks gawgeous and you have such a short walk to pooh

Fuuuuck, that's gorgeous; where's that? Do you boil water from the river or is there a burn nearby?
I've stayed in a good few bothies, though I wouldn't consider myself a bagger. I've got a friend who's done nearly all of the MBA ones.

I guess the Lafayette loop is neato, the Gulf trail from Madison-Washington is out of this world. The ice caves and rock scramble up King Ravine is pretty badass. Almost kilt me and I was in my prime.
>>745624
I finally got up to the Whites early last month, had a kickass time going up Lafayette (pic). A group coming up the south side of the franconia loop (falling ice trail iirc?) told me to avoid going down it, so I ended up going from the lafayette to lincoln, and then back to lafayette in shitty conditions. Definitely a learning experience but a lot of fun too.

Hello /out/doorsmen, Slovenian camping man here to give you a little update on my adventures. I will post some photos of the small forested hill I explored. It seems to be a common spot for people who want to do a power run since the hill is rather steep, and the surrounding forest is quite magnificent with a good view. It's called Pekrska Gorca and has a mausoleum on the summit. Also should I adopt a "tripcode" to make these threads more regularly? It seems like you guys liked my last threads so I will do explorations as much as possible and post nature. I also bought a knife for about 4 Euros which I will post for the opinions of people whom are experienced with knives. I will start my Camp in the forests as soon as my tent arrives and I wish you all happy, relaxing endavours.
Pic related is the hill. It is close to the large mountain pohorje.
Here is a view from the other side, there is a small household and a vineyard on one side sandwiched between the woods.
These are the forests adjacent to the vineyard, namely the outskirts of Mt.Pohorje. I highly recomment Slovenia for /out/ it is truly a magnificent country.
The path up, near the vineyard household.
What is /out/'s experience with drugs (including alcohol) and wilderness? I was planning on taking mushrooms for the second time later this summer and was considering doing it on a camping trip with a few friends. We would be pretty deep in the forest, at least a day's hike from civilization, but we would be in a large group (8-10 people).
Is this doable or is it an unnecessary risk to take?
I've only smoked weed and drank in the wild. Weed was thoroughly enjoyable and allowed me to still hike and shit, but I had to concentrate more on where I was moving n where I placed my feet n shit. Also you shouldn't smoke weed while in the desert unless you have way more water than you would otherwise need.
Alcohol is something I only drink at the camp when all the days hiking and exertion is over. Still thoroughly enjoyable though. Also advisable to bring an excess of water.
>>750501
>Risk of what?
I'm just concerned with something going wrong. Injuries, bad trips, etc. I've been studying up on how to safely trip, but there's always the possibility of shit not going according to plan.
So there is some kind of SHTF situation - whatever you fancy, but the point being things are very very bad. What gear, e.g. rucksacks, water filters, clothing, weapons, is top quality, yet not 'tacticool' stuff and could be considered 'Gray Man' i.e. doesn't attract attention, doesn't scream 'steal me? List the stuff and it's features below

Honest question lads. As people who identify themselves as regular outdoors men do you feel obligated to protect the environment?
I know a lot of you normally go camping so I figured you'd go out of your way to make your outdoor experience as eco friendly as possible. Like you wouldn't wanna be that asshole who straight up drinks a can of beer and throws it in the woods would you
Or be that REALLY BIG ASSHOLE who cuts down trees but doesn't bother replanting new ones

I always clean up after myself.
Right before I leave, I plant a little tree.
I even recycle my urine.
