I have come across many "maybes" but not one for sure answer... What is the pack in the top left? Or even better where to get one. Wish I could buy up the whole packing list in one shot but I'd be happy getting a hold of the pack. Pretty sure it isn't a czech or serbian pack.

Could be custom or locally made, OP

In any case you're wanting it because it looks cool when it will be much less functional than readily available alternatives, so you've already fucked up

Hello /out/doorsmen, I recently went exploring deeper into the hills of Pohorje, a tree fell down whilst I was there sounded like gunshot. Besides that I will be dumping some pictures along with some pictures of some nearby foothills I am planning on camping in soon.

Pic related is a river dam I built in the mountain stream for some relaxation.

Hope you guys enjoy.

You need to start camping. Use whatever equipement you have right now and take note of everything you can improve. But you need to do an overnighter.

Daily Compass Thread General aka /cg/

Hey boys, what compass are you guys currently using?

I've been doing the 9C method recently and really enjoying it. Provides a really good sense of security when I'm innawoods.

Honestly, for 95% of my /out/ activities a Suunto Clipper and a map is more than enough. On multi-week hikes I also carry pic related plus a Rapex.

That particular design isn't very good. If it had larger holes in the top it'd work well enough for cooking though it would need some holes around the top of the side if you were to use pots/pans with it. If you are just making a fire for fire's sake then it is fine I suppose.
>>
>>753276
the idea is to cook with it since during summer is really dangerous making a fire where I live.

I'm going to be hiking the PCT this year, so can we get a couple regular sc/out/s to screencap and repost this as necessary?

There are no poisonous crown berries (like blueberries or huckleberries), there are no poisonous compound berries (like raspberries or blackberries), there are no poisonous fruits that look like strawberries. All parts of all grasses (like rice or maize) are edible, all parts of all brassicas (like broccoli or ocra) are edible (Brassicas all have four long sepals, two short sepals, and four petals. All saltwater seaweeds are edible).

The meat of all freshwater fish, fur-bearing mammals and snakes are all edible.

This is all specifically for north America, but largely accurate globally. There is one poisonous compound berry that exists only in south America, and one poisonous snake in Asia (?).

It's like they want you to clog it with sediment in 5 seconds.
>>
Depends on what you currently use to filter water. I have a Sweetwater system and love being able to pump out three liters in a few minutes. My friend has a lifestraw and just puts it in a nalgene bottle, but I tend to be the guy with the most water on our group trips.
>>
Dont fucking buy one they are useless your throat will be sorr from sucking literally as hard as you can and that probably burns more water and energy than you could consume with one of these stupid, easily cloggable, gimmick, lies of life saving devices. Never trust your life with one. Buy a solar or manual pump style filter.

So /out/, how do I start on the journey towards being a survivalist/outdoorsman?
I've basically just grown up in the suburbs and never had anyone to teach me basic skills so where do I start? What are some good books or resources?

I know, read the sticky, but the links in the sticky are dead for the most part. Or at least the pdf's in the sticky are broken.

So here's your first lesson. Your dogs always on a leash. Respect the land. If you are going to hunt, do it humanly and make the best of the animal you killed. We don't kill for the lulz. Don't litter and make your best effort to leave the place as close to what it looked liked when you arrived. If there's litter around, bring it back with you and put it into a trash can. And actually go /out/. Start with day hikes, take notes about what you used and what you didn't, what worked and what did not. From there take it to an overnight camp. And so on.

And stop posting that kind of /b/ tier shit pics around here. We're not amused.

I am planning on building a shieling this summer like in the one in the picture which I took the other day of a long abandoned one.

Shielings are small stone cabins which Scottish people lived in during the Summer time to graze their sheep. I plan on useing mine as a shelter in the Summer time which will be my base of operation when I'm out and about on the moors and hills of my local area.

I'm doing research right now on dry stone building techniques so I was wondering if anyone here has any links to places with information or has experience in this type of building and could give me some tips.

The idea for it so it so far is to have an interior floor area of of 3 metres by 2 metres an interior height of 1.8 metres. The only feature I am interesting in having at the moment is a fire place with chimney.

On the left is a fire place in which I'm cooking some soup. On the right are a couple of interesting artifacts, a cast iron stove and a tea pot.
