Hows the paddling going anon? The waters still a bit cold here in New England, but its still nice.

Ocean kayaking is better than fresh water kayaking.

A genuine Bill Engvall moment happened tonight at Ocean State Job Lot. I brought this stuff up to the counter -- tent stakes, lantern, rope, air mattress (how come these damn things only last one year?), bungee cords, and other necessities. She said the obvious: "You goin' camping?"

"Nope, my office is having a nuclear war preparedness drill and we'll be underground for five days. Here's your sign."

She didn't get it.

What does that even mean
Who the fuck is Bill Engvall?

What is the point of this thread?

Good job being a humorless asshole

Abs who the fuck thinks bill engvall jokes are funny, let alone to reference it in real life. What a sperglord

So whenever I've gone camping I've always had a good bag. I was recently looking at cheap sleeping bags rated only in the low 40F range and a thought popped into my head. So long as you are aren't hitting sub 30F is there anything stupendously horrible about using a bag that's not rated as well and sleeping in warmer clothing? Will this be able to keep the temperature up or is it pretty much just useless?

Putting you're dirty ass clothes in the bag. Although I never really cared. I used my military bag system every single day for a year twice and washed them every other month.

You need a two bag system. And use them together when it gets cold.
>>
>>813379
Is the need to layer or the bag or will the layer around yourself provide enough warmth if wearing the proper clothes.
>>
>>813386
If you add clothes it can add a little warmth. Yea I used to use my basic bag down to the 40s in my acus. But we had 30 guys to snuggle up with if necessary. I would be careful if going out alone with a basic bag yhat will barely get you by.

But once you get down what is comfortable with each bag then you only need to bring both in winter. Buy 2 bags or a set. Being able to use different bags is great.

Hi, I need a hard case for an iPhone 6S that can be taken off and put back on a lot. The otter box I have now seems to have broken because I removed it too often

I am going to be building a square foot garden over the fall winter season in my back yard. I used to have two huge beds back at the old house. (lived on a acre in WV, Now I am in a town house in zone 7). I figure if I want to grow anything worthwhile square foot and going vertical are my only options.

So far I am building 4-6 beds each with 6 squares in them.

Would anyone have suggestions for sellers of seeds. (heirloom or organic) Or what verity of veggies you have had a great experience with. I am ready to try more than yellow squash, zucchini, spinach, peas, and tomatoes.

Also post pictures of your garden guys!

You can find seeds online easy. But if you want to find something in your area that will for sure survive contact your local Master Gardener or ask around at a farmers market if you have one. Someone might be willing to sell you some seeds. BTW, Potatoes grow great in vertical drums. If done well a 50 lb drum can produce 40 lbs of potatoes.

You do realize this was to start a general discussion on the subject of square foot gardening? I see post everyday about hiking and fishing that are repetitive. This subject after a search did not come up.
>>813097
I have tried local farmers and growers I know sadly most are very tight lipped around here. I was just hoping for suggestions of new variety to try as the options are endless. Potatoes are what I will be planting this weekend actually. Last year I got about 95lbs out of 4' of space.

You need a gun. A big one. Remember that these people are out there...

Time for a bit of a story, I was bushwalking with a friend near the Glasshouse Mountains. We are both pretty inexperienced, so we stuck to the tracks and whatnot. I'm in front, chatting and walking, having a lovely time when i see a snake about a foot in front of me. Having grown up in Brisbane, I immediately knew it was an Eastern Brown.
>shitfuckshitniggabackthefuckup
i backed up slowly and it slithered off the track. Still scared the shit out of me. it looked like it was about 2 feet long and a darkish brown colour. I am pretty sure it was an Eastern Brown but are there any lookalike snakes that It may have been, and how do you avoid snakes while /out/? not my photo, but the snake looked identical.

Im Brisbane boy and have a lot of experience with local wildlife through my adventures in the bush.

Firstly yeah it was likely a brown snake but could have been a coastal taipan which look kinda similar but with a more pronounced brow. One good one to identify browns because their colour varies is to see if they have orange splotches on their belly (obviously this isnt often easily accessible unless you catch it first)

To be honest as a lover and owner of reptiles i feel like people really dont get snakes and get caught up in unreasonable fear. Whilst they are poisonous and browns are known to stay and fight on occasion instead of fleeing they really arnt a threat unless you do actually make contact with them ie stepping on them.

For example, last christmas holidays i was sitting in a little sand bend in a creek enjoying the peace when i started hearing rustling coming from around the bend of the creek. Sure enough a two meter brown comes round the bank. Im sitting cross legged and just thrilled to see it (currently with the impression it would just slide past at a 3 meter distance) but it ends up leaving the bank and goes onto the sand straight towards me. When it was half a meter away i decide i dont want to risk it getting closer and then suddenly realizing im alive and it panicking so i stood up. It just looked up at me and did a u-turn back up into the bank.

Snakes really arnt bad creatures, just dont tread on them and you will be fine. However just stopping loudly will scare them with the vibrations you create as that is one of their main ways of sensing threats.

Lots in the Adirondacks, which is unfortunately 5 hrs from B-lo.There are probably some OK hiking places in the Western fingerlakes. Look into Letchworth. Not that familiar with that far West though otherwise.
>>

Letchworth is very beautiful but due to the tourism hardly /out/ at all. There's plenty of trails around the finger lakes but of course no mountain views like the ADK has.

I have a question /out/. I know very little when I comes to Iron Stoves. This guy I found wants 150$ for this puppy and I'm tempted to try and talk him down to around 100$ for it. Is it worth it?! Seems like a decent investment.

So recently I've gotten interested in climbing trees. It seems like a really good skill to have when you go innawoods.

I would like to not have to use equipment to get to the top though. I have found a technique that I would like to try but I'm not sure it will work with trees much thicker than the ones in the video like older pine trees.

Does anyone have any experience? Can I just wrap rope around the tree to help compensate for the wider girth of the tree? Do I need anything special in terms of footwear or will my chuck taylors be fine?

as far as keeping leeches off your body wholesale I'm not sure, but I do know that proper deployment of an anti-tick condom will keep leeches off your dick and out of your bladder.

Ok its time for a new pack. My old pack is from the 80s and lost in my storage unit somewhere.

There is a retired outfitter in Santa Fe NM who sells gear for cheap out of his house but it is all at least ten or more years old and much of it 20 years old.

What improvements am I missing out on if I get one of his older used high end packs?
