how was southern california? any scary animal encounters yet?

also have you read wild
>>
>>815745
The worst sections were towards the end of the desert, at one point I carried 9 liters of water for a 42 mile dry section. I walked at least half of so cal at night just because I could get away with carrying less water. Not really any bad animal encounters other than getting stung by a bee. No bears or cougars so far. I haven't read wild.

Also, is what I have a magic mushroom? It was found in north Texas, it recently stormed quite a bit here. Shaded area near some brush.

Unfortunately North Texas is a pretty bad region to find Psilocybe species. I am almost positive that is not a psychoactive mushroom but to be certain you need better pics, show gills, better pic of the stem and better lighting.

I was told a while ago that this is the place to come to for bikes. I carried a 30lb bag on my handlebar and now the bike rides differently (go figure). I'll carry it on the other side next time to create equal wear. Question: the repair for this is to buy a new handlebar, right? Nothing more could have been damaged than the handlebar, right?

>>
If the handle bar is bent take the grip off, put a bar or something round and smaller inside, then straighten it.
>>
>>814934
So you think the damage has to stop at the handle bar, and you think I should straighten it?

Three women had to be rescued 20 hours after they started tubing the Muskegon river in Michigan. The women started to panic after floating 6 hours, and around 3 miles downstream, when they didn't see their car and it started getting dark. As they tell it, a man assured them they would end up back where they started because the river runs in a circle. None of them being familiar with the area, believed him. Not one of them had their phones and were only found thanks to some drift fisherman who heard their cries for help.

Hello /out/,

I want a friendly debate on what I should go with. Tent or hammock? I live in BC, Canada and would like to do both winter and summer camping, eventually bowhunting aswell. We definitely have the trees for hammocks however the tops of the rocky mountains are pretty barren and much more suited for tents. I'm sure this has been discussed and argued about time and time again, I was hoping for some solid reasoning why I should go for which. I'm currently leaning towards a lightweight tent/thermabag/sleeping bag set up.

Thank you all.

I made the lovely picrelated for the sake of the thread

How can a hammock even work with strong winds?
I don't own a hammock but I think that if you're getting only one of the two then it's always a tent because a hammock is too restrictive in where and when can you use it.
>>
>>814120
I'm guessing with tie down tarp to guard from wind however the wind passing under you is the worst

If you are thinking fishing might be a good hobby but not sure if you will like it, spend at least $250 on a rod and reel just so you can be extra butthurt when your friend is outfishing you on his $50 setup and give up the hobby entirely. Less anglers to compete with.

Little storm front is sitting just out west, not sure if I should try and go fishing or enjoy the AC and soft couch now that I am home from work.

Talk about fishin'

>usually (sometimes) bend the hook
What does that mean?

Past couple times I have hooked it up, the swivel has bent before anything. Sometimes it is at a knot in the leader, sometimes it pops loose and I have no clue what the hell I got hooked on and why it came loose.

Since the lakes I fish are mostly manmade, I am getting snagged on these rocky ass drop-offs. And it gets snagged somewhere down lower on a pretty much vertical drop-off. When I do that, it just breaks the line wherever it is touching the corner of that ledge and you won't even bend an Eagle Claw before it busts the line.

The surgeon's knots on my pre-tied Texas rigs probably don't help.
>>
>>814060
If I just get the tip of the hook stuck in wood etc I can normally pull enough the hook bends slightly and will pull free even with 15 lb test

Hey /out/, question: A friend of mine loves his gaiters and always tells me, that they are the ultimate addon to ankle high hiking boots.

I'm not so sure about that: At the end of the day they are pieces of denim with buckles. But I want your experience. Does anyone here go hiking with such low (military style, not talking about moist protection gaiters) gaiters like pic related? Is the lower leg support really that much better wearing ankle high hiking boots?

Why not just blouse your trousers?

I mean real fucking gaiters. Waterproof gaiters. Yea those have a use. But whatever the fuck you posted is just ankle weights
>>
>>813908
Well they are Wehrmacht/Bundeswher gaiters. And ont forget the US had low combat boots with dgaiters too (M1943 boots) .

Btw how should blousing increase ankle support?

No they are not you fucktard
>Does anyone here go hiking with such low (military style, not talking about moist protection gaiters) gaiters like pic related?
There's a reason even third world militaries don't use separate gaiters anymore, especially ones made in the 40's
>Is the lower leg support really that much better wearing ankle high hiking boots?
Do you know know what a gaiter is

I'm tired of living on other peoples terms, tired of paying rent, paying insurance, paying for cars, paying for gas, registration all that nonsense.

I'm going to become 'homeless' on purpose.

My plans are to get a cruddy job somewhere, a tent, sleeping bag and other necessities and live off of the gym, library, laundromat and laptop/tether.

Has anyone done something like this? Pros/cons?
