Why don't you use the Palomar knot? "I never learned it, how do I tie it?" is the only correct answer.
Pastebin and Imgur are still there. Open to moar suggestions.

Let's talk about fishing.
Imho braid and mono each have their benefits
Braid is great for strength per diameter and the small diameter is great for fishing deep water with current vecUse it doesn't catch the water
It's also more sensitive though I don't notice that much of a difference unless fishing deep water or with heavy weights
Mono is cheap, it's knots hold well, easier to untangle (in my oppinion)
More abrasion resistant , no leaders needed , gets less weeds (especially cottonwood seeds ) stuck on it and has better (less) visibility in smaller diameters
>it's an "anon is too stupid to use braid" thread
>>816139
Replace braid with Palomar knot and you may be onto something. I can see why people prefer mono over braid for a couple reasons and would rather just keep mono on their main rod because of the certain type of fishing they do. But for me, bass fishing from shore, Braid has been better than Mono in pretty much every way.
>>816138
But of all the downsides to braid, they are only issues in a small number of fishing conditions. It's often good to have a rod spooled with mono or flouro for those rare times.
Idk where the knot thing comes from. Braid is more flexible than mono and flouro, so if you tighten up a tangle you may be fucked. But I haven't had an issue with knots like that in a couple of decades since I learned how to wipe my own ass and I stopped getting knots while casting.
Do you pack it back? Yesterday my brother went mental on me because I decided to throw it against a tree and I left it there to root. We started arguing and I called him retard, then he picked up the peel and left. He has not spoken to me since then.
His he overreacting?
>>815961
i dunno op, would you mind walking on a bunch of rotting potato peels, egg shells and orange rinds while trying to relaxe in the /out/? pack your shit out with you, its a fucking banana peel, not an anvil

Liam is that you here?
you're both retards anon
What's the best way to catch deer in a crowded suburb?
Ideally on my quarter acre of property so that I'm not seen traipsing about with a deer over my back in suburban Maryland.
I'm aware this may be somewhat unrealistic; in return, lions.
Shoot with bow and arrow in the middle of the night, drag into your garage

But how do I get them to come onto my property. Especially if I've killed their friends there.

Buy a block of salt.
So I was out hiking and I found a rather large chunk of amythest. It's not the best quality but I was wondering how much could it be be worth. It's 7in long and 6 in wide at widest point and weighs about 3.8 pounds
Here's another picture with more colour

Give or take like 40 bucks as its very unclean. I'd suggest going back to that area and looking around you'll most likely find a nicer piece of rock. Never the less nice find.

What is this icky bug?
How do you /out/siders feel about camping off of designated campsites?
Went for a nice overnight in the Delaware water gap and had to basically plan the entire hike to end in the campsite along the AT. Along the way I found plenty of places that were more than suitable to set up camp at.
As long as I "leave no trace" and keep my food secure (bear country) then I see no problem with it, especially considering I highly doubt any Rangers patrol half of the trails in that forest

i sorry but i don't understand.
i have not kept up with regulations about the AT.
are you now required to camp in only designated campsites?
if so than my government has moved one step closer to tyranny.
if you are referring to the ethics of camping in non-designated campsites...well that's totally up to you to do the right thing.

It's called stealth camping, and is pretty common. It's tolerated some places, and other places it's more strictly enforced. Most ethical campers see no problem with it. The issue really becomes when unethical campers do it, and leave a bunch of bushcrafted bullshit laying around with garbage strewn about.
I'm a recently single MN bro just interested in learning to fish well. Where you at Bros ? It would be nice to get outdoors and forget about life for a bit.

There are several specific food threads, just none where you can simply share what you are doing.
What are you cooking, /out/?
I just had lunch; onion rings and a chicken sandwich (pic related). It was delicious and it didn't heat up my house.

I need an entire new wardrobe for going out
I need everything, all I wear right now is work suits and sweatpants/jeans/sneakers at the weekend.
I'm looking to get at least one full 'outfit' by this weekend and that includes:
>shoes/boots
>socks
>pants
>underwear
>tshirt / underlayer
>outer layer / jumper
>waterproof shell
Can anyone recommend/link items of clothing (available online) that wont break the bank but will get me started?
Nothing I already have at home is suitable, most of it is purely cotton and either work specific or super casual sport/skater crap.
Where to start?
>>813922
Hello effay
>>813923
How is it fa? If i gave a fuck about fashion i'd be walking up a mountain in a $500 suit like a retard
I'm looking for recommendations on gear that will be suitable
>shoes/boots
Insert brand name hiking boots. Buy in the store where you can try them out. Not online.
>socks
Most boot companies sell socks too
>pants
I prefer TruSpec BDU twill pants in olive drab.
>underwear
Elastic breathable boxers and a thin wife beater
>tshirt / underlayer
Whatever you like
>outer layer / jumper
Thin fleece jacket from walmart
>waterproof shell
I got a surplus poncho that lives in my backpack
I murder a couple each night. Now my fruit is finally coming out. They will bite the tomatoes and bark off the roses too. There's probly a nasty little family living under the porch and chewing on the hose. Anybody else have success with pest control in yo garden?
>>813821
Combined spring traps and sticky pads along the walls and rafters near the entry points. Use peanut butter for bait and have found using different traps allows for better genocides of the invasive whiskered migrants
>>813821
Go get a dozen unsnipped male tom cats.
>>813821
I had rats move in once into an area where I couldn't set rat traps. I tried all sorts of things, but what finally worked was a lot of shovel work to make it so that they were contained in a small area, cramming the hose into their den and sitting at the entrance with a 22 loaded with 22 shot shells.
I didn't feel like making two different threads so whatever.

What is your favorite music to listen to while out? If you're like me and prefer the natural sounds, what music do you listen to now?

What is your favorite nature based movie?
>>812769
I dont listen to music while outside, I prefer natures sounds. For Road trips classic rock, otherwise classical piano or a lot of random songs/artists I like without a general genre.
I like your pic, Touching the Void, or shows like alone in the wild (too much crying in this one, even tho it seemed authentic and interesting)

I got this Realistic Channel Pro-2005 off an ex-prepper at a car boot sale today, I've never tried ham radio before and can't work out how to make it scan through frequencies. It searches through memory banks instead. The manual is no help either.
Can someone into prepping or ham radio help me out? I know I need a license to transmit, I can't transmit on it as it has no microphone socket. I just want to tune into something.
Radio thread I guess.
>>812201
we have a radio general somwhere OP, those guys can shirly help you
>>812201
You need to register yourself for a call #. If you get caught hamming without one you can be in serious trouble. This is not just about transmitting and there is a mike jack on that model. It's the Pro-2005
>>812201
That's a scanner, it doesn't have the circuits for transmission. Only thing "illegal" you can do with it is (try to) break encryption.
The manual tells you how to program channels and has a section on "bank" operation. Select a bank, program in frequencies, and start scanning.
That scanner won't be much help since almost every jurisdiction now has moved to P25 digital. Those that are still on analog are usually trunked.
Smaller/volunteer districts still use analog equipment, most still maintain an analog channel/freq pair for legacy equipment like narc/lock boxes and for interop.
Another option for scanning is a SDR receiver. This is just the receiver part of a radio, that plugs into your computer. Software on the computer is what's doing the decoding... which makes cheap hardware very powerful.
How many spring-traps do you bring with you into southern California desert during survival mode?

>>810443
snares are a one time use, if you want to go for long term Ie more then once 330 conibears are the way to go. Realistically op 3 traps for 1.

So, pesticides sprayed onto the fruit helps soothe insect bites? I normally break out in a mild rash when I touch banana or orange peels; if they've not been scrubbed with soap and water.
Also, don't waist time packing out trash. Just dig a hole and bury it or toss it into the water. Don't be a retard.

You never bring fruit to adventures or serious outings. It's basic outdoors 101

>You never bring fruit to adventures or serious outings. It's basic outdoors 101
No, that is incorrect. You bring exactly what you normally eat at home on any trip.
You shouldn't radically change your diet when you go out or you can suffer GI problems which are not fun when you are out and trying to have fun. It is like those morons who eat normal food all the time then only eat MREs while camping and complain they can't shit for a week.
