I'm having trouble finding some nice ass PANTS. My main requirement is waterproofness and breathability. But I can't find anything that fulfills that very well. It seems to either be lightweight pants that won't stop water, really heavy pants like snow pants, or something like the Fjallravens which seem super comfy, but again aren't waterproof. If good jackets are easy to find, why are pants so hard? Does everyone just have separate over pants for rain? Is there no pair out there that can just keep me dry without being excessively hot and heavy?
Arc'teryx makes some good damn pants that are lightweight and waterproof, as long as you've got around 2-300 dollars to burn
Hefty bags would suit all your requirements you fucking retard

Pants don't really get wet from rain. Wear polycotton or get some softshell pants (they don't need to be heavy to repel water, in fact being light means faster drying). Truly waterproof goretex pants are overkill for almost anything.

Gay af? Really? How old are you exactly?
Anyone ever done a crossing of the alps? I plan on going later this summer. I think about either going the L1 (green),Munich-Lake Garda (black) or the Traumpfad (blue).
I also need a new tent for it, any recommondations for a small/lightweight one, thats easy to hide?
I did once on a bicycle.

THANK YOU ANON
Finally a real /out/ thread.
I haven't done any of these so can't help you.
How high do these routs get? How high do you expect to sleep?
By later this summer do you mean August or September? also how long do you think this kind of hike would take?
>>813882
Altitude depends on the route, my favourite the L1 goes up to 3360meters, here is more info if you speak german (you probably understand enough even if you dont)
sleeping probably depends on how warm/cold its gonna get and weather, but generallly up to 2500-3000.
Yeah around that timeframe.
I plan a month as most info would recommend, but I think I can be faster, maybe in 25 days.
You wanna go one yourself?
What's your favourite /out/ show or document?
Mine was Alone in the wild i believe it was called, this scottish guy goes to alaska to survive as long as possible. He didn't meet his goal but it was really interesting how it was so mentally hard for him. pic related.

I bought a piece of shit 2600mAh from walmart for $5. Wouldnt charge my phone past 30%. I use my phone for taking pictures/videos, gps, etc.
Since I do a lot of long distance hikes I would prefer something small and light that can charge a galaxy s6 2 or 3 times.
I have never tried portable solar panels. If you have experience with those any information would be appreciated.
>>823621
Buy an Anker
Seconded for Anker, get one of those 26,000mAh ones if a 2600mAh only charged your 2550mAh 30% and you want 2-3 full charges.
i use the powermonkey extreme, few sunny days around my parts so i mostly use the powerbank and rarely get to use the solarpanel but it is functional and surprisingly good.
>I would prefer something small and light that can charge a galaxy s6 2 or 3 times.
i think my powermonkey can charge my samsung s5 about 3 times maybe? but thats with using it while charging a bit i guess, but its by no means small or light weight so i guess it depends on what you mean by small or light weight
Hey /out/, I'm going to be going to Denali National Park with my family next week. I've never been there before and I want to check out some of the cool stuff there that any of you /out/doorsmen might reccomend. Unfortunately, I'm going with my 15 year old sister who can't really handle the outdoors so I can't be making any hikes longer than 3 or 4 hours. Either way, I just wanted to see if there is anything you guys recommend up there.
Bumping with pictures I have found on google
I hate to start another thread about gear but my questions never get answered.
Im looking to buy a new winter jacket. The only ones I have are for construction and just walking around town.
I remember when I was a kid everyone just wore snowboarding jackets because that was the thing. But I've been reading up and doing some research and I'm definitely ready to buy one while the prices are right. I've found a few that I like but they look so thin and incapable of keeping me warm but all the reviews say otherwise.
What do you guys think? I live in the northeast.

Layers mang, layers.
Winter jackets suck balls so much unless you are in really, really cold conditions and not doing any strenuous activity.
That being said, I have 3 heavy winter jackets. 2 snowboard-type jackets that are nice because they are warm but not overly restrictive and a hoodie under them will hold up to the coldest I encounter. And then a Columbia jacket (which /out/ hates) that has a fleece liner with a waterproof shell deal. The Columbia jacket just gets too warm once you start moving even if it is -10F while a hoodie and the snowboarding jackets will do fine at those temps but if I get warm I can just go down to the hoodie for a bit or take the hoodie off and do jacket only.
Layer in the winter. Hardshell for keeping moisture out.
find something with a removable liner / hood / fur collar; good brands include canada goose and barbour
makes it a lot more versatile
if you aren't willing to put up the money for a jacket like that, a cheap but fantastic winter jacket is woolrich's blanket lined (translation: heavy) mountain parka
and they are on sale right now

what is the point of this thread?
So I want to get into this whole bass fishing game. I am a lifelong panfish and crappie hunter. I also dabble in fly fishing when the mood strikes.
I know nothing about bass.
I own a spinner on a 6' Med Action rod, spooled with 14lb braid line. I live in central NC, and do not have a boat.
So give me a shopping list, please. Lures, jigs, soft plastics, hooks, what do I need in my tackle box to catch some bass?
>>822526
Texas rigs on the bottom have been pretty much the main thing doin it for me in the summer with warm water. They love shit with long legs like soft plastic lizards or crawdads. Different colors work for different conditions but these darker black and blue colors are great for somewhat murky water or running thru weeds and grass.
Once we get into fall, I'll run a lot more spinners and crankbaits.
>>822530
Very cool.
So some dark soft plastics.
I hear a lot about the different brands. Zoom, Yum, Berkeley, Yamamoto, does any of that shit actually matter?
Should I invest, or just get the cheapest stuff that I an find?
Any California /out/ist's in here? Let's share some backpacking/hiking trails in the San Gabriel mountains/ Angeles forest area that are not too crowded or easy to get to. I have Been hiking these mountains for a while now but for the most part I stick to the already stablished trails which always seem to be busy. I'm bumping with some pics I've taken from recent trips.

But some lesser know but still interesting things.
Like the sumpter valley ghost train. Apparently a steam train engine derailed back in the gold mining days. Story says it was never found. Would be fun to go look. The sumpter vally also has some haunted gold mines and has a lot of history with chinese miners. There is in fact a man burried near my property there in the middle of the forest.
Anyway. Tell weird oregon rellated things. Bonus points for sumpter valley cuz im around there a lot.
No, I'm not a 12.

A few friends and I are planning a camping trip in 2 weekends. We want to go somewhere remote, mountainous, sparsely populated and a clear night sky. Not really looking to rent a camp site, would much rather prefer hiking into the forest and setting up a tent. We're willing to drive anywhere within about 3 hours from Harrisburg. Any ideas?
Huntingdton is really nice in PA, lots of natural trout streams and woods. No light pollution you can spot satellites in the sky at night. I have a hunting cabin up there.
>>821841
Would we be able to park our cars on the side of a road somewhere in the county and wander off into the woods to set up camp and be undisturbed for the weekend?
Yeah plenty of places for that. Check out whipple dam state park or raystown lake
