Def not that shit gerber.

Dunno why they'd make a pummel that's made to hit shit with, not attack it to the tang.

Also shit tang.
Shit steel.
Crap serrations.

Sheath is kinds though.

Go get yourself a schrade, becker, esee, even Sog. Just stay away from Gerber, unless it is their shit from like 80s and really early 90s. Those ones are decent.

More than 300 wild reindeer have been killed by lighting in central Norway in what wildlife officials are calling an unusually large natural disaster.

The Norwegian Environment Agency has released eerie images showing a jumble of reindeer carcasses scattered across a small area on the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. The agency says 323 animals were killed, including 70 calves, in the lightning storm Friday.

Do most bolts have some universal current?... or are some strikes more powerful than others? Cause it doesn't make sense that one bolt can kill multiple living things close to the size of a human, but not kill some humans.

I'm not a scientist, but I imagine so....like with static shocks

apart from topsy, I don't think edison ever did experiments electrocuting animals to see how much juice it took to kill them

Fucking Alan is so based. I'm glad he won. He seems like the kind of guy you'd want to share several beers with. I'm surprised Sam lasted that long, he really became a man out there.

Just started on season 2, but none of the participants seem empathic.

Sam location was literally someone's backyard. Everyone else was a reasonable distance from other humans.

I was going to get one of their jungle blankets and then I read they're too short.
I was going to get one of their jungle bags and then I read some reviews of guys over 6' saying they're too short.
I guess they call it snugpak for a reason...

Anyone got either product?

They sell a long for giraffes like us.
>>

snugpak is a british company so they specialize in warmish rainy shit.

my main bag is a snugbak I got from the uk shop in khandahar 8 years ago. I love it. I use it all summer and most of fall. and I put it in a better bag for winter.

I also use a snugpack bag cover I got at the same shop. and a nite watch. the brits had some good deals back in khandahar 07.

if you really are 6'5" go try shit out at rei. freak.

alright climbing fags. I need some advice.

I've never really climbed before but I've absailed a few of them shit walls at climbing centres and stuff.

Anyway. I need to get a geocache that under a bridge over a river (it's a little pot that magnetic and stuck under) there seems to be two schools of thought on this one. Canoe and build a human pyramid, or rapelling off the bridge and pulling yourself under.

I'm opting for the rapel method.

So I'm using a setup like the one featured and I was testing it in my garden on a tree just to make sure it holds before I go dangling off a bridge and I found the rope easily slid through and I had to pull down hard to get enough friction to hold me. I was just using a shitty camping rope that about 10mm thick.

Question is this. Apart from the glaring obvious reason of safety. What else is different about climbing rope to bog standard camping rope. is it more abrassive to help get a better hold?

>>
>>852858
Climbing rope tends to be a bit stiffer than shitty camping rope due to the way it's designed. The extra stiffness provides a tiny bit of extra resistance when sliding through a rappel device. I'm doubtful that this is really the deciding factor here though. More likely you've just underestimated the amount you need to pull down when locking off. That said, get actual climbing rope when you do this.

Yeah prob a chanterelle. But dig it up, spore print it, and make sure you check the boxes. This shroom has a look a like that's poisonous.

I'm just going to start replying in the affirmative every time I see one of these threads. There are threads for identification of edible things already up, check the catalog and use those instead of making a new thread every time you have a question. Board culture, learn it.

What online mapping tools does /out/ use?
I usually use Mapometer to plan routes and save them. For general map work I usually use Open Street Map (which I have an app on my phone which allows you to save areas for offline) I also use Ordinance Survey maps by going through Walk4life.
Does anyone use any other software or websites and any recommendations?

If the little whitish things on the leaves are little dusty specks rather than hairs its some kind of lambs quarter. Lambs quarter has been grown as a food for a long time though not so much these days. Tastes kinda like spinach (use/cook it the same way) and is very good for you.

It the leaves are hairy don't eat it. Don't know what it is but i know to leave it alone.

There are these tiny identification manuals you can take with you in forests.

Please do not make yourself go through a slow, agonizing death caused by liver/kidney failure, again, caused by eating the wrong mushrooms.

Be smart, be safe!

It looks like part of the Russula family.
Where did you pick it? What type of forest?
If it was near a beech tree, really don't eat it.
If you are in north america and it wasn't near a beech tree it is probably Russula rugulosa, which is edible.
You shouldn't eat it though.

If you live near the coast you can probably rent some different kayaks to get an idea of what you want before you buy. Also some marine shops have tryout days so you can demo various different boats. That's better than getting advice on the internets, since we don't know the local water conditions and the kind of stuff you intend to do.

Flatwater paddling is really easy to get started, just look up some basic paddle strokes on youtube. Whitewater and surf can make it pretty tricky.

You can transport with tie down straps and pool noodles if you need to.

Get one like pic related if you are a beginner, especially if you want to take it out on the ocean eventually. These sit-on-top types have a lot of advantages.
>never have to bail them out
>tough plastic material
>you wont get caught inside if it overturns
>easy to modify
>storage compartment on the inside
>if you're in the ocean the surf wont endanger your kayak
>lots of work space for fishing and gear
The aren't a traditional boat by any means, and they do leave you a little exposed to the sun and whatnot, but overall they are pretty good.

so basically I am planning to bike from Miami to Seattle and live off the land while doing so. I mean like biking during the day and camping out at night.

>no hotels
>no hot showers
>no help from friends or family

I am taking all advice and opinions on how I should prepare, and what I should expect.

I know this sounds like a crazy idea but its honestly something I've wanted to do since I was a kid. I feel that I've lost touch with a lot and I don't appreciate anything anymore. This trip is not only going to help me with that but it will also help transition me from a boy into a man.

Also, I'm going to book a really nice hotel in Seattle. A hot shower and a nice shave after biking 4,000 miles and being homeless will be a nice reward.

I'm 100% serious about this, no turning back.

Plus ego trips are always a good idea. Friends and family are such losers.
